Ye Shikai also opened his phone, accessed the website, and saw that the news about the unscrupulous lawyer and the assaulting woman being killed was trending first. Moreover, the clicks were still surging. The second and third trending news were about a woman assaulting soone on a bus and a heartless businessman being acquitted. These three cases were interconnected, causing rampant discussion among netizens.

"What do you think about it?" Ye Shikai tentatively asked.

"I’m just an ordinary citizen, but if I saw such people, I’d also despise them. Now that they are dead, it truly feels like retribution—a great satisfaction," Wanna laughed as she spoke. Indeed, Ye Shikai read so comnts, most of them containing words like "deserved," "death not unjust," "instant karma," "great satisfaction." What those two did was indeed infuriating, and now that they were murdered, most netizens’ first reaction was of course great satisfaction.

At the sa ti, Ye Shikai was sowhat puzzled. From the news, there were surprisingly a few photos, clearly of the two victims’ hos, and even the pixelated corpses. Why would such photos be leaked? As he read further, his expression turned even grimr. There were shouts like "the murderer is a hero", "eradicating evil for the people," which subtly "whitewashed" the murderer’s actions. Worse still, if the murderer is portrayed as "white," wouldn’t the police capturing the murderer be considered "black"?

The more Ye Shikai read, the more uneasy he felt. The online atmosphere seed off, and those leaked photos...

"Hey hey hey, the president is here." At that mont, Wanna grabbed Ye Shikai’s arm, pointing at the door and exclaid.

"Ah, okay, I got it." Ye Shikai regained his composure, put away his phone, and left the company directly.

"Weren’t you supposed to et the president?" Wanna muttered.

...

Police station.

"What’s going on?" Ye Shikai, without hesitation, pushed open the door to Zhang Ting’s office, which had beco the workspace for the special case team.

"You an the photos?" Zhang Ting turned and sighed helplessly. "On the day of the incident, soone reported sothing unusual. The police we dispatched found the bodies, but sohow a bunch of journalists with caras appeared out of nowhere. As soon as they found out about the homicides, they rushed in like they were on steroids to take pictures. The few officers were caught off guard and couldn’t interfere, allowing the journalists to barge into the room."

"By the ti the main police force arrived to maintain order, the photos were already taken."

"Dammit." Ye Shikai slamd the table and cursed loudly.

"What’s wrong now?"

"The murderer is not just simply killing; I suspect that the online public opinion is being manipulated by him."

"What do you an by that?" Zhang Ting beca nervous and pressed Ye Shikai for answers.

"It’s bad... Sister Ting." At that mont, the female officer who had entered the office earlier rushed in, panting.

"What is it?" Zhang Ting asked imdiately.

"Breath... breath... we received a report... another homicide has occurred."

"What?"

"What?"

The two exclaid in unison, full of shock. Another murder case occurred so quickly. Zhang Ting and Ye Shikai, along with two officers, rushed out imdiately. Once they turned on the siren, the police car moved swiftly and soon arrived at the scene.

...

"Front page news, front page."

"I heard soone died inside."

"Quick, take pictures."

However, when everyone arrived at the scene, the sight they encountered was greatly frustrating. Around the cri scene, a large group of journalists had gathered, flashing their caras relentlessly. In the vicinity, there were only three officers, clearly insufficient to protect the scene.

"Maintain order, quick!" Ye Shikai shouted loudly. Zhang Ting and two officers imdiately rushed forward, but they seed insignificant in front of the massive "journalist group" and could not stop them. Zhang Ting was almost driven to draw her gun, but without a choice, resorted to using pepper spray to disperse the journalists first.

"If you don’t retreat, I’ll consider you obstructing police duty, and I have the right to arrest you." Zhang Ting flashed handcuffs, which finally scared off the reckless journalists.

"Eh, where is he?" Zhang Ting curiously said, turning around only to see that Ye Shikai had already entered the room.

Zhang Ting quickly followed inside. The scene was just like the previous ones, neat and orderly, with no signs of a struggle, or perhaps, any evidence of a struggle had already been erased...

A middle-aged man wearing a white shirt lay sprawled across the desk, blood covering it. The man’s eyes were wide open, which was sowhat horrifying, and he was still holding a pen. Over the desk, scattered sheets of A4 paper lay around, at a glance, at least a hundred, so already stained with blood.

"This is the victim." Ye Shikai was carefully observing the body.

"What are these?" Zhang Ting instinctively wanted to touch the papers on the desk, but Ye Shikai quickly stopped her.

"Wait, preserve the scene, wait for the forensic team." Ye Shikai calmly said, "Quickly inform the main police force to arrive imdiately."

"Okay." Zhang Ting nodded and was about to walk out when Ye Shikai quickly stopped her. "Right, keep an eye on the reporters’ statents, stop any rule-breaking comnts imdiately." Ye Shikai quickly added, seeming to suggest that the murderer was using public opinion as a tool for cri.

"Leave it to ."

Ten minutes later.

The gradually arriving police cordoned off the scene and also had officers to guard it. However, the journalists did not leave, seemingly waiting to interview after the forensic examination.

"Do these journalists have no ethics at all, don’t they know they are obstructing police work?" Zhang Ting complained incessantly.

"They’re also working, seizing the hot topics is what they should do," Ye Shikai remarked, still uneasy, but trying to comfort her.

"Right, just as you expected, news has already broken out online," sighed Zhang Ting, handing her phone to Ye Shikai.

"University professor tragically dies at ho." Ye Shikai was puzzled; did these journalists already know the victim’s identity?

"They are professional journalists, they found out the victim’s identity quickly," Zhang Ting appeared even more helpless, handing over the man’s information.

"It really is a university professor." Ye Shikai exclaid in surprise.

"We have already verified; indeed, the victim was a professor currently employed at Yanjing University," nodded Zhang Ting.
