"Keep a good watch here, don’t let anyone disturb us," Ye Shikai instructed the Netherworld Palace guards at the door. One Tang Yun couldn’t possibly attract a cultivator to assassinate her. The only possibility was that the cultivator was sent to kill Ye Shikai, and Tang Yun... unfortunately got caught in the crossfire. Ye Shikai felt guilty about it, but there was no way around it. Assassins exist to fulfill their objectives. They won’t take anything into consideration, especially not innocent people.
"Yes, Master."
Thump, thump, thump.
Just as he turned his head, he heard footsteps coming up the stairs. Ye Shikai was too familiar with this. With such a big incident, Ji Qian must have arrived.
"How are you, are you alright?" Ji Qian briskly stepped forward, carefully looking at Ye Shikai. During the fight, he did accidentally tear his clothes, but luckily, he wasn’t injured. The opponent didn’t seem to want a prolonged fight but fought while retreating. They even used smoke bombs to escape. Logically speaking, if they were assassins aid at fulfilling their target, why would they give up so easily? Also, if the target was none other than the Netherworld King, why send only one assassin? And what about the convenience store "gunman" Tang Yun ntioned? What is going on?
"Hey, say sothing." Ji Qian nudged Ye Shikai, finally snapping him out of his reverie, "Sorry, I was lost in thought just now." Ye Shikai apologized, "I’m fine. The assassin ran away. I just brought Tang Yun back first."
"Are you kidding ? You just went out for a short while and sothing happened. I think you attract trouble," Ji Qian complained, "Besides, you didn’t bring any guards this ti."
"Tang Yun is my friend, and we were just going to her friend’s wedding. Who could have thought such a thing would happen?" Ye Shikai was also helpless.
"Did you get a clear look at the assassin’s face?" Ji Qian seed to say a "rhetorical" question. How could an assassin directly expose their face?
"No. But I did keep this," Ye Shikai took out his "trophies" from his Storage Ring: a whip frozen into a popsicle and a black robe solidified into a hard board. In the Storage Ring, ti stands still, so nothing inside reacts. There’s no worry of the ice lting.
"Let’s have it tested first. It might leave so clues."
"Co to think of it, only one assassin is kind of too arrogant, right?" Ye Shikai expressed his doubts, especially since the attack started with bullets. For him, bullets could be dodged, making such an approach foolishly revealing.
"I think you’re even more arrogant," Ji Qian leaned over slowly. Suddenly, from his wrist, he pulled out a dagger and swiftly held it against Ye Shikai’s neck. The entire move was executed instantly. The surrounding Hidden Guards instinctively wanted to step forward, but Ji Qian stopped them. Indeed, even Ye Shikai couldn’t react in ti. If Ji Qian had really wanted to "act," Ye Shikai might really be in trouble now.
"Just joking, don’t stress," Ji Qian tossed the dagger aside, rolling his eyes, "See, I could kill you myself."
"This...what kind of relationship do we have? Why would I guard against you?" Ye Shikai was clearly a bit defensive.
"If you do run into soone who truly wants to kill you, see if they give you a second chance," Ji Qian walked past Ye Shikai. As a strong individual, he didn’t embody the cold-blooded ruthlessness or cunning of Zeus. He was loyal to his friends, gathering a group of experts ready to follow his lead. However, his biggest flaw lies here: he didn’t guard against people close to him. Maybe one day he would...
"Well, do you want to kill now?" Ye Shikai joked, even leaning his neck towards Ji Qian, sporting an "impish" look.
"You look like you’re asking for death, not serious at all."
.......................................
"Tang Yun, I’m really sorry for dragging you into this ss. How are you? Are you alright?" By evening, Tang Yun had woken up from sleep. She drank so duck soup carefully prepared by the servants, improving her complexion dramatically. Most importantly, her ntal state stabilized. After a major shock, one tends to beco ntally hazy, possibly requiring psychological treatnt.
"Actually... it’s nothing much. We didn’t get hurt, right?" Tang Yun smiled bitterly, comforting Ye Shikai. Perhaps she had already guessed so things.
"Oh, didn’t you ntion sothing urgent before leaving the wedding? Didn’t expect such an incident. How about it— is the matter still pressing?" Ye Shikai suddenly rembered that Tang Yun had so urgent matters earlier. An entire afternoon had passed, hopefully, nothing more arose.
"It’s nothing, really," Tang Yun nodded. "The landlord said my room seed to have so noise and a burnt sll, and as I was not ho, he phoned. Just earlier, I saw his ssage; it was a misunderstanding. The room is fine."
"Alright then, false alarm," Ye Shikai said calmly, "I’ve had the servants prepare a feast. We can eat shortly."
"Okay, thank you."
"What about the gunman, who was he, why did he want to assassinate you?" At the dining table, Tang Yun still seed preoccupied with the assassin’s identity. She was more curious about Ye Shikai’s identity now, seeing how he resides in such a luxurious estate, with dozens of servants. He must be a big deal.
"Tang Yun, you don’t need to worry about this. Once things here are resolved, I’ll head back to Huaxia. This was an isolated incident. You won’t encounter such things again," Ye Shikai promised Tang Yun.
"I’m more concerned about your safety, rather than getting caught up in this."
"Don’t worry. With so many people here protecting , nothing will happen," Ye Shikai ensured confidently, already having inford Tang Yun about the cultivator situation. However, concerning the Netherworld Palace, he needed to keep certain things to himself, unable to divulge to Tang Yun.
"Tomorrow, I might as well head back ho. After such an incident, I don’t feel like traveling anymore," Tang Yun calmly stated.
"Anyway, I’m very sorry," Ye Shikai sincerely said. Anyone experiencing such gunfire would feel uncomfortable. Now that the matter had been dealt with, Ye Shikai should return too. The clues Johnson left before his demise were genuinely a lost cause...
Concerning the Dragon Teeth operation, would he ever find the answer to those mysteries? Ye Shikai wasn’t sure anymore. He felt doubtful, having reached this mont, reluctant to yield easily. In the end, it all seed tied to destiny; maybe when the ti was right, answers would erge. With this notion, Ye Shikai could only comfort himself.
"It’s okay. I’ve visited over a dozen countries, actually, seeing shootings isn’t rare for ."
