"Let her reflect on what she’s done!" Zachary Preston said coldly. "She’s turned the house upside down recently. We can’t let her keep acting so recklessly."
After he finished, he looked at Vera Xavier and said, "Vera, your mother isn’t a bad person at heart. If she admits she was wrong, try not to hold it against her."
Vera Xavier nodded and said, "Okay, I’ll listen to you, Dad."

Zachary Preston let out a long sigh and picked up a new pair of chopsticks, but the food had lost its flavor.

She glanced at Zachary Preston, who already looked rather old for his age. Her heart truly ached for him. He was only in his forties, but years of toil and stress made him look at least ten years older.
She placed a piece of food on his plate with her chopsticks. "Dad, you work so hard. Please eat more."
Zachary Preston smiled and nodded. ’Cara Preston seems so well-behaved and sensible,’ he thought, ’but she’s fundantally selfish. During als, she only ever thinks about getting the best bites for herself. She’s never once served any food.’
He returned the gesture, placing so food on Vera Xavier’s plate. "Your schoolwork is demanding right now. You should eat more, too."
After Cara Preston went upstairs, she heard the argunt break out below. She listened closely. At first, she felt a flicker of glee, but when she heard Zachary Preston defending Vera Xavier, she grew furious.
’Before Vera Xavier ca back to the Preston family, I thought Zachary Preston treated pretty well,’ she fud. ’But ever since she returned, he’s clearly taken her side.’
Cara Preston took a deep breath, replaying the events in her mind. Her eyes filled with venom. ’No, this won’t do. I have to find a way to win over Nathaniel Nathan! I won’t let anyone who gets in my way off the hook!’

Cara Preston could no longer suppress the malice in her eyes. It was on full display for Vera Xavier to see. "You’ve only known Nathaniel Nathan for a few days. What feelings could you possibly have for him?"
