Cara Preston hadn’t expected Vera Xavier to contradict her so directly. She finally rembered that Vera was different now; she was no longer the sa girl Cara could lead around by the nose.
She hurriedly said, "I don’t look down on people from the countryside, it’s just that so of your habits really aren’t great..."
"What’s wrong with my habits?" Vera Xavier asked point-blank.
When it ca to lifestyle habits, Vera Xavier had never thought she had any problems. She was clean, tidy, and had excellent habits.
Cara Preston hadn’t expected the question. She racked her brain but couldn’t think of a single bad habit of Vera’s. In the past, whenever Vera had a spare mont, she would be sweeping the courtyard, wiping the windowsills, or washing the entire family’s clothes.
She hemd and hawed for a long ti before finally saying, "You don’t know how to use a gas stove, and you always use a ton of oil when you cook. It’s unhealthy."
Hearing this, Master Nathan was even more certain that Cara Preston was just picking a fight to make Vera look bad. He said coolly, "That’s hardly an issue. I’m not asking Vera to be my housekeeper. We have soone to do the cooking at ho, so there’s no need for Vera to lift a finger."
He then looked at Vera and said, "So, Vera? Have you made up your mind?"
Cara Preston was about to interrupt, but Vera had already smiled and said, "Since you’ve put it that way, Mr. Nathan, it would be wrong of to refuse. Besides, it’s so nice of you not to mind all my so-called bad habits."
"Those aren’t bad habits at all." The mont Master Nathan heard she’d agreed to stay with the Nathan Family for a while, his face lit up with joy. He chuckled, "I’ve always thought of you as my granddaughter-in-law. The won of the Nathan Family don’t need to do nial chores."
Cara Preston’s face went pale with fury when she heard that. She wanted to throw a tantrum but didn’t dare do it in front of Master Nathan. All she could do was shoot Vera a vicious glare, which Vera deliberately ignored.
And so, the matter was settled. After a brief discussion, they decided that Vera would pack her things and move into the Nathan Family’s ho that weekend.
With the matter settled, Master Nathan couldn’t have been in a better mood. It was now dinnerti. When Zachary Preston offered to cook, Vera wouldn’t hear of it, heading into the kitchen herself and telling him to stay and chat with Master Nathan.
After Vera entered the kitchen, Cara followed her in. She made a show of helping out, but in reality, she sidled up to Vera with a grim expression. "Sister, how could you agree to Master Nathan’s offer? He’s in poor health. If so accident were to happen while you’re taking care of him, how could you possibly take responsibility for that!"
The mont Vera heard her, she knew Cara hadn’t given up. She said coolly, "That’s my business."
In other words: Mind your own damn business!
Cara Preston looked at her, stunned. "Sister, why have you beco like this? I’m only doing this for your own good!"
Vera smiled. "It’s not entirely for my own good, is it? Otherwise, why were you trying to go to the Nathan Family’s ho earlier?"
Cara only faltered for a second before retorting, "That’s because I’m worried you’ll cause trouble! Look at all the disasters you’ve caused since you ca back. If you stir up anything else, I’m afraid Mom will really disown you!"
Vera didn’t say anything. Cara, thinking she was wavering, pressed on, "But it’s different if I go to the Nathan Family’s ho. Even if sothing were to happen to Master Nathan, I could still co ho. I have an escape route. So, Sister, I’m truly looking out for you!"
