Cara Preston’s expression flickered, but Vera Xavier’s eyes held a bone-chilling coldness. "A mont ago, you fell into a ditch. No one paid you any mind. I was the only one who wanted to save you. I don’t know what Mom and Dad taught you, but if repaying kindness with malice is what you call ’integrity’ and ’good character,’ then I’d rather have none of it!"
Many people had seen what just happened. Vera Xavier had indeed tried to save Cara Preston, but she had been held back by Daisy Archer and Wesley Kane. This made them start to doubt Cara Preston’s character.
"No, that’s not it!" Cara Preston said hurriedly. "That’s not what I ant. I just don’t want you to go astray."
Vera Xavier’s expression was frosty. "So, according to you, I should thank you for calling despicable?"
Cara Preston said plaintively, "I’m not the one calling you despicable; you’re the one who actually did those things. I’m just following our family’s teachings to tell the truth. Vera, I’m sorry. I’ve caused you trouble. I shouldn’t have said it in front of so many people."
Vera Xavier was thoroughly disgusted. ’This girl isn’t so innocent white lotus, she’s a venomous black one!’
She asked coldly, "Telling the truth? All right, then. Cara Preston, why don’t you go ahead and tell everyone exactly what despicable things I’ve supposedly done! Don’t feel embarrassed, and don’t bother saying it’s ’for my own good.’ Just tell it like it is!"
Cara Preston was genuinely surprised. She really hadn’t expected Vera Xavier to have the nerve to say that under these circumstances. She sneered inwardly. ’Fine. If Vera is digging her own grave, then I’ll be happy to oblige!’
So, Cara Preston said with a pitiful look, "Vera, you’re the one who asked to say this. You can’t bla for what cos next."
Vera Xavier sneered. "Go on! I won’t bla you."
Cara Preston imdiately said, "On the weekend of the monthly exams, you fought with Mom and ran out. You were gone for several nights and didn’t co ho. You said you went to the Xavier Family’s place in the countryside, but Mom happened to go there on business yesterday. She asked around, and you weren’t there at all those few days!"
"She was at my house!" Wesley Kane imdiately interjected. This was all part of their plan; after considering their options, they had decided this was the perfect ti to slander Vera Xavier.
His words imdiately captured everyone’s attention. A young woman staying at a man’s house—especially the man she had once been engaged to and married—the implications were clear, and the crowd instantly erupted into a fresh wave of gossip.
"Oh my God! How shaless! She actually stayed at his house!"
"That’s unbelievable. And just a mont ago, she was acting so high and mighty!"
"You really can’t judge a book by its cover. To think soone who looks so innocent would do sothing so shaless!"
Shane Caldwell had also heard about the incident from that weekend, which made him the most stunned of all. He stared at Vera Xavier in disbelief. "Did you really...?"
Vera Xavier ignored him, walking right up to Wesley Kane. "Do you dare swear to God that what you’re saying is the truth?"
"Why wouldn’t I dare?" A lewd smile curled Wesley Kane’s lips. "You didn’t just stay at my house those few days. We ate together, lived together, slept together, and even bathed together. We did the most intimate things a couple can do."
"Do you have any proof?" Vera Xavier asked.
When Cara Preston heard this, a cold glint flashed in her eyes. ’Proof? I gave Wesley Kane the "proof" he needed long ago!’
