Cara Preston cried too. "If you don’t want , Dad, then I’ll just kill myself!"
Zachary Preston, Grandpa, and Grandma were all stunned. They truly hadn’t expected Rona Langdon and Cara Preston to react so dramatically!
’They couldn’t actually drive them to suicide, could they!’
Grandma glanced at Vera Xavier with a guilty look, then sighed. "We’ll let this go for today. But if I ever catch you scheming to harm Vera again, don’t bla us for being heartless. You can pack your bags and get the hell out of the Preston family ho!"
Cara Preston was still whimpering, but Rona Langdon kept talking. "Mom, you say I play favorites, but you’re just as biased! Vera Xavier gives you a radio, and suddenly you’re taking her side over your own granddaughter!"
"I have only one true granddaughter!" Grandma finally snapped. "If a certain soone hadn’t been so incompetent and failed to watch her own child, would my Vera have been forced to grow up away from ? You’re the one who made such a colossal mistake, yet you have the audacity to act like you’re in the right! The Preston family would be better off without a foolish daughter-in-law like you!"
Rona Langdon imdiately threw herself on the floor and started rolling around. "I don’t want to live anymore!"
Seeing Rona Langdon’s behavior, Grandma was so furious she could barely breathe. Vera had also seen more than enough. ’Today has been a real eye-opener!’

In the end, after all the drama, Cara Preston was not sent away. Rona Langdon and Zachary Preston had a massive argunt. This ti, Rona didn’t threaten to run back to her parents’ house, but she gave Zachary the cold shoulder for the rest of the ti.
As the family of four was leaving Grandma’s house, the old woman, as promised, handed Vera a bag with about thirty eggs. She whispered, "Vera, be smart and watch your back at ho. Keep these eggs for yourself. Don’t let that pair of ungrateful wretches eat them!"
Vera Xavier knew that once these eggs were brought to the Preston house, they would most likely end up in Rona Langdon’s stomach. She smiled and agreed, "Okay, Grandma. But you and Grandpa shouldn’t be stingy with eggs, either. You’re getting older, so it’s even more important for you to eat well."
Grandma nodded, gratified. Vera Xavier winked playfully. "Then all the eggs my chicken lays are just for you, Grandma."
Grandma chuckled. "You silly girl!"
It was nearly dark by the ti the family of four returned to their residential compound. Although Cara Preston had changed out of her wet clothes, she seed to be coming down with a cold. She had sneezed dozens of tis on the way ho, felt dizzy, and seed to be running a fever.
Rona Langdon paid lip service to how much she cared for Cara Preston, but she barely paid her any mind. In the end, it was Zachary Preston who went out to buy her cold dicine.
A pang of heartache shot through Vera Xavier as she watched this unfold. ’In my past life and in this one, Dad has always been good to Cara. But in my last life, after Cara made it big, she completely ignored him. When Rona frad him and he was sent to prison, Cara never visited him even once.’
’It was like that before, and now... in this life, Cara probably hates Dad to her very core.’
After they got ho, Rona Langdon noticed sothing: Zachary Preston had been paid his salary for the month, but he hadn’t given it to her. She wanted to ask him for it, but they had just had a fight. No matter how shaless she was, she was too embarrassed to bring it up directly. Instead, she tried shooting aningful glances at Zachary several tis.
But Zachary Preston completely ignored her, heading straight for the bathroom to shower and get ready for bed.
