A flicker of disappointnt crossed Nathaniel Nathan’s eyes, and he fell silent.
The room instantly fell quiet, filled with an indescribable, oppressive tension. The air was thick with the minty scent of dicinal ointnt.
Vera Xavier found it strange. ’He was just teasing relentlessly a mont ago, so why the sudden gloom?’ She glanced up at him. His gaze was downcast, and his entire being perfectly embodied the words "keep out."
She had actually seen this gloomy, sullen side of him plenty of tis in her previous life. He looked exactly like this whenever he ca to see her, only to be shut out. Back then, this look had only made her more afraid to get close to him.
Even now, seeing him like this stirred an inexplicable fear in her. But having been reborn, she knew he genuinely loved her. ’His gloom must just be a front.’
’And we can’t go on like this. I can’t be afraid of him forever. I have to find a way to get over it.’
So she raised her uninjured arm and gently tapped his lips. As he watched with a slightly puzzled expression, she extended the tip of her tongue and lightly licked her own fingertip. "Now we’re even for tonight!"
A storm imdiately erupted in Nathaniel Nathan’s eyes. ’She has no idea how seductive that was!’
His breathing hitched. Tossing the dicine bottle aside, he lunged, pinning her to the bed and crushing his lips against hers.
A domineering, fervent, and frenzied aura swept over her, the kiss leaving her dizzy and disoriented. She let out a soft gasp, and he took the chance to slip his tongue into her mouth, claiming his sovereignty with ultimate possessiveness.
Vera Xavier realized she had made a huge mistake. ’No matter how gloomy he seems, he’s not soone to be trifled with.’ She felt as if he was going to devour her whole.
She tried to push him away, but her body had gone soft and weak. Her hands had no strength, and her feeble attempts felt more like an invitation than a rejection.
Her once-clear mind was now a puddle of mush...
After what felt like an eternity, Nathaniel Nathan finally, reluctantly, released her. If he didn’t stop now, he wouldn’t be able to control himself. He couldn’t take her before she had truly accepted him; that would only make her fear him more.
He sat up, catching his breath. In a hoarse voice, he said, "Don’t you dare tease like that again!"
"But you started it," Vera Xavier mumbled.
Even sitting up, Nathaniel Nathan could only sll her sweet, pure scent. ’God, I want another taste!’
He shot to his feet. "I’ll be back tomorrow to help with your dicine," he said, then opened the window and climbed out.
A small smile played on Vera Xavier’s lips, and the amusent in her eyes deepened. ’So he really did just co to help with the ointnt.’
’She had sensed his state just now; he’d been at his limit. A part of her was actually impressed. To be able to pull away at a mont like that with such self-control... this man’s willpower was extraordinary.’
’At the sa ti, a flicker of anxiety sparked within her. If he kept coming over to apply her ointnt every day, it was only a matter of ti before things got out of hand. And she definitely wasn’t ready for that.’
’He could be perfect in every way, but he had still left a deep scar on her from her past life. Even knowing he loved her and would never hurt her, she couldn’t control the fear she felt. She would always subconsciously want to avoid him, to keep her distance.’
’She knew this was a habit ford over many years. Overcoming it wouldn’t happen overnight.’
