Her grandparents and Zachary Preston had all been questioned separately. The main thing they had to explain was where the money for Zachary Preston’s dical treatnt ca from.
Upon her return, Vera Xavier was also imdiately brought into an empty office at the hospital for questioning.
Before the investigators could question her, Vera Xavier preemptively explained, "All the initial expenses after my dad was hospitalized were money I borrowed from Nathaniel Nathan. This investigation was primarily focused on the source of the funds for Zachary Preston’s treatnt, so the questioning naturally turned to the piece of calligraphy by Vincent Seymour. Vera Xavier stated plainly, "My dad’s dical treatnt has so far cost a total of 57,862.2. Apart from what I initially borrowed from Nathaniel Nathan, the rest ca from selling an ancestral calligraphy piece by Vincent Seymour."
"How much did the Vincent Seymour piece sell for? Who was it sold to? And when was it sold?" one of the investigators asked.
Vera Xavier replied, "It sold for a total of one hundred thousand. The buyer was the master carver, Mr. Quentin Sterling. I sold it to him a week ago, and the paynt was settled on the spot. You can confirm this with Mr. Sterling."
The investigators exchanged a glance. Quentin Sterling was a renowned master carver in Crestfall with a substantial fortune; he could definitely afford such a sum.
The two of them nodded, deciding to go find Quentin Sterling.
Vera Xavier said softly, "I don’t know who bribed my dad, but according to the ti of the alleged bribe you ntioned, he had already fallen ill and was in the hospital. He was unconscious, so it would have been impossible for him to accept any bribes. At that ti, my grandparents and I were at the hospital. Only my mom was ho."
Her grandparents had actually said the sa thing, and the investigators were also fairly certain that Zachary Preston hadn’t been the one to take the money. But since the funds were linked to him, they had to conduct this routine investigation.
Besides, plenty of people at both the hospital and their compound could testify to the fact that Rona Langdon had initially refused to pay for Zachary Preston’s dical treatnt.
The investigators looked at the well-behaved and lovely Vera Xavier before them. They had actually done their own investigation into Zachary Preston’s integrity and knew of his good character, so one of them reassured her, "We will investigate this matter thoroughly. We also believe in Mr. Preston."
After Vera Xavier saw them out, she imdiately found Jack Judd, whispered a few words in his ear, and said, "Go to the police station and do exactly as I say."
