Susan Caldwell’s eyes narrowed. She had been expecting Vera Xavier to lean in and shake her hand. After all, in Veridia, a re hint of interest from her was enough to make countless people scramble for her attention.
She truly hadn’t expected Vera Xavier to disrespect her like this!
She had always been ruthless. Since Vera wouldn’t show her any respect and couldn’t be won over, she would have to teach the girl a lesson—show her just who she was dealing with.
Anyone who disrespected her had to pay a heavy price!
At her sideways glance, Leo Wright understood. He sprang into action, lunging straight for Vera Xavier’s throat.
In her previous life, Vera Xavier had suffered greatly at Susan Caldwell’s hands. Though she appeared to be speaking with Susan, she was actually keeping a close watch on Leo Wright. She had been ready ever since she saw the look in Susan’s eyes change.
The mont Leo Wright lunged, Vera’s hand shot up. With a swift, ruthless, and precise movent, she drove a pin she had prepared earlier straight into a pressure point on his elbow. As the pin sank in, Leo Wright felt his entire arm go numb, unable to advance another inch.
He recoiled in shock, lifting his foot to kick at Vera’s chest. But Vera was faster. The very instant the pin struck and he froze, she had already made her move, aiming a kick straight at his groin.
Leo Wright could only scramble to defend himself. Even so, he only just barely dodged her kick and had lost his chance to attack again.
’What a pity,’ Vera thought. ’A professional security expert is still a professional. He’s not soone I can take down easily with my unorthodox style.’
Leo Wright looked ready to attack again, but Susan Caldwell’s voice cut in, "Stop!"
Leo Wright shot Vera a resentful glare, but he obeyed and stepped back.
Only then did Jack Judd and Aaron Cheney react. They moved to step forward for her, but she held out an arm, blocking them behind her.
Susan Caldwell’s gaze on Vera Xavier was complex. She knew Leo Wright’s capabilities inside and out. For years, whenever Leo made a move, it resulted in casualties. But today, against Vera, he hadn’t gained the slightest advantage. This was highly unusual.
She finally understood why Vera dared to speak to her that way. So she really did have a few tricks up her sleeve.
She smiled faintly at Vera. "That was just a misunderstanding. My bodyguard doesn’t know his place. I’ll be sure to punish him. I truly want to be your friend..."
This made Skylar Crowe even more anxious. She couldn’t help but stomp her foot, calling out again, "Susan!"
"Thank you, but as I’ve already said, you are not worthy of being my friend." Vera glanced coldly at Leo Wright before continuing, "And you can drop the act. Would he have made a move without your say-so?"
Susan Caldwell’s expression faltered. She instantly realized Vera had seen through her intentions from the very beginning.
Her eyes narrowed. Vera Xavier was the most difficult person she had ever t.
As the two faced off in a stalemate, a nearby curtain was drawn aside. A flamboyant man in his twenties stepped out. He wore a bright blue cardigan, his features were prettier than most won’s, his short hair was dyed chestnut, and he wore a stud in his left ear.
He looked between the two of them with a faint smile. "If you can’t be friends, there’s no need to be enemies. Why don’t you two lovely ladies do a favor and let’s just call it even?"
