Susan Caldwell’s gaze darkened at Irene Jensen’s words. Irene continued, "And the way she looks at you is so inscrutable. Have you ever offended her before, Susan?"
Susan Caldwell shook her head. "Before Skylar started that scene with her, I’m certain I’d never seen her before."
Irene Jensen said thoughtfully, "That’s strange, then."
Although Irene Jensen was a girl, she was quite well-known in Veridia. ticulous and composed, she had earned the nickna "Lady Strategist." She was close with Susan Caldwell and often helped her strategize.
Susan Caldwell smiled. "It’s probably because Skylar had that unpleasant clash with her, so she’s taking it out on ."
"How do you plan to win this bet?" Irene Jensen asked.
A cryptic look appeared in Susan Caldwell’s eyes. "I already called the chairman of The Jade Association in Trellis yesterday. He recomnded the best jade-betting consultant to . Yesterday, I just wanted to buy so jade to cut open as gifts for my family. Today, it just so happens I can also teach that cluelessly arrogant woman a lesson. So, why not?"
It was precisely because she had this ace up her sleeve that she dared to challenge Vera Xavier to a bet.
The Caldwell Family was powerful, influential, and well-connected in Veridia. When she made the call, she only had to briefly ntion her identity, and countless people would scramble to curry favor with her. Forget about just finding a skilled jade-betting consultant; even having Vera Xavier arrested as a drug dealer would take nothing more than a word from her.
She was prudent and ticulous in her actions. Combined with the Caldwell Family’s status, she could accomplish virtually anything she wanted.
She had suffered a loss at Vera Xavier’s hands yesterday, so she was determined to even the score today.
’And now that she’s made her move, she has to see it through. She’s even arranged a series of follow-up sches. This bet is just the beginning. The mont Vera Xavier agreed to it, she was dood!’
Skylar Crowe clapped her hands. "I knew it! As soon as Susan makes a move, she’s guaranteed to win!"
Irene Jensen glanced at Susan Caldwell, then at Skylar Crowe. For so reason, she couldn’t shake the feeling that sothing was off.
’They’d been watching Vera Xavier’s group for a while now, and no matter how you looked at it, they acted like complete amateurs. Under these circumstances, Vera shouldn’t have any chance of winning. But then why was she so calm just now? Could she have an ace up her sleeve, too?’
She spoke up from the side, "I still think we shouldn’t let our guard down. How about this? They don’t know , so I’ll go keep an eye on them. If I notice anything unusual, I’ll let you know so we can be prepared."
Susan Caldwell gave a gentle smile. "You always think of everything, Irene."
Vera Xavier casually walked into a shop. Jack Judd leaned in and asked, "Vera, how confident are you about this bet? That woman ca on strong; I’m afraid she ca prepared. We’re not going to lose out, are we?"
Vera Xavier replied casually as she examined the stones, "She definitely ca prepared. I’m not that confident, either, but when soone cos looking for a fight, it’s too humiliating to back down."
Jack Judd grew anxious at her words. Although Aaron Cheney had said she’d once cut open an Emperor Green jade, Jack didn’t really believe it. He thought Aaron was just sucking up to her.
’He had co out with her this ti. If anything happened to her, knowing Nathaniel Nathan’s temperant, he would almost certainly be torn to shreds!’
He couldn’t help but blurt out, "You’re not even confident, yet you agreed to a bet where the loser has to eat stones? That could kill soone!"
