Scott Sullivan and Heath Wright exchanged a look. They were taken aback by the situation unfolding before them. They knew that one wrong move could lead to disaster.
Trent Thornton said coldly, "I order you to get out right now, or I’ll kill him!"
Scott Sullivan and Heath Wright couldn’t ignore Aaron Cheney’s safety. However, if they left now, they feared the situation would only get worse.
Trent Thornton was clearly out of patience. He couldn’t kill Aaron Cheney just yet, so with a flick of his wrist, he hurled his Flying Knife into the crowd. The blade embedded itself in Skylar Crowe’s thigh, and she imdiately let out a bloodcurdling scream.
Vera Xavier, huddled in a corner, felt her heart pound. She knew they had beco hostages—and were in the most dangerous kind of situation.
Anxiety flashed in Scott Sullivan’s and Heath Wright’s eyes. The mission was supposed to have been flawless. An unexpected complication like this ant Shannon Quinn hadn’t done her reconnaissance properly.
They couldn’t ignore the safety of the hostages, so they had no choice but to retreat.
As they backed away, Trent Thornton shouted, "Get a car ready out back! I want it within ten minutes! If you can’t, I’ll start killing one person every ten minutes!"
As Scott Sullivan and Heath Wright retreated, Nathaniel Nathan arrived. The two n quickly briefed him on the situation inside.
Nathaniel Nathan turned to glance at Shannon Quinn. She lowered her head.
Nathaniel Nathan made a quick decision. "Give them a car."
"But if we give them a car and they try to escape, we’ll have a hard ti catching them!" Scott Sullivan said, frowning.
Nathaniel Nathan said coldly, "As mbers of a security company, our primary duty is to protect civilians. Even if we can’t complete today’s mission, we absolutely cannot allow the innocent to be hard."
He then added, "They aren’t getting away today."
Scott Sullivan saluted. "I’ll go get the car now!"
Trent Thornton had his two henchn herd everyone into a small inner room to make them easier to manage. He himself held Aaron Cheney hostage in the far corner, a blind spot where he couldn’t be ambushed from any angle.
Once he had the situation under control, he breathed a sigh of relief. His two henchn ca over. "Boss, what do we do now?"
Trent Thornton cursed. "I must have the worst luck in the world to run into Direwolf!"
They had been incredibly arrogant at the start of this deal. With several hundred rcenaries at their disposal, they had completely disregarded the local authorities. They never expected this matter to attract the attention of the higher-ups, who had sent The Phantom Company to deal with them directly.
He thought back on the last few days: all the rcenaries he’d hired at great expense had been killed, and he and his n were being hunted by Direwolf like stray dogs. His plan had been to rendezvous with his people here, use the terrain to his advantage, and annihilate this Phantom Company squad. He never imagined they would be waiting for him.
In fact, Trent Thornton had clashed with Nathaniel Nathan a few tis before, but he had always managed to escape due to special circumstances.
It was precisely because of those past encounters that Nathaniel Nathan knew his thods like the back of his hand, which had led to this very ambush.
Although Trent Thornton was vicious and exceptionally cunning, he didn’t normally target ordinary civilians.
But today, Trent Thornton was cornered. There was no guarantee he wouldn’t do sothing drastic.
