A rare gentleness filled Nathaniel Nathan’s eyes. He leaned over slightly and placed a light kiss on her face.
She used to always keep her distance from him, but ever since she hit her head, she was no longer afraid of him.
He didn’t know if her recent intimacy was just an act. He murmured softly, "Vera Xavier, if this is an act, then you just have to keep it up for a lifeti."
Nathaniel lay awake until dawn. He got up, changed his clothes, and as he opened the small window, he glanced back at her one more ti. She was sleeping soundly. He wondered what she was dreaming about as she licked her lips in her sleep.
Nathaniel couldn’t resist. He turned back and kissed her again, then took a new set of clothes from his backpack and placed them on her small desk. He then slipped out the small window, silently scaling down the wall and leaving the compound without a sound.
When he returned ho, Master Nathan was already awake. He was surprised to see Nathaniel returning from outside at such an hour. "Nathaniel, where have you been?"
Nathaniel replied earnestly, "I went to win over a granddaughter-in-law for you."
Master Nathan was overjoyed. His grandson was perfect in every way, except for his withdrawn personality. Plenty of girls flocked around him, but he’d never shown the slightest interest in any of them.
He imdiately asked, "Which family’s young lady is she? Bring her ho to et one of these days!"
Nathaniel nodded. "When the ti is right, I’ll bring her ho."
Master Nathan was grinning from ear to ear, but then another thought occurred to him, and his expression turned stern. "You rascal, don’t tell you were out in the middle of the night taking advantage of so young lady? Let tell you, you can’t be reckless about these things! You must respect her. You can’t force love; it won’t be sweet."
Nathaniel didn’t answer. Master Nathan continued, "If you did sothing you shouldn’t have to that young lady, you must take responsibility. Don’t be like that scoundrel from the Kane Family, who was engaged to the Preston Family’s daughter but was still ssing around."
Wesley Kane lived not far from the Nathan Family. The whole affair of Rona Langdon sending a matchmaker to return the betrothal gifts yesterday had already beco the talk of half the city.
Although Rona Langdon couldn’t stand Vera, she was still very concerned with her public image. So, when she returned the betrothal gifts, she didn’t shy away from making a scene. She told everyone she t that the engagent was broken off because of Wesley Kane’s despicable character.
The scandal had beco so huge that even Master Nathan, a man who never gossiped, had heard about it.
Nathaniel’s expression darkened the mont he heard Wesley Kane’s na. "Don’t compare to that scum."
Master Nathan laughed. "I was just using him as an example. No need to get so worked up!"
Nathaniel started to head upstairs when Master Nathan added, "If you truly like her, then marry her and bring her ho properly. Climbing her wall in the dead of night to see her is disrespectful. If soone saw you, it would start ugly rumors. Since you like her, you must show her the utmost respect. Don’t ruin her reputation."
Nathaniel agreed with his grandfather. If he hadn’t heard that Vera had been beaten badly yesterday, he wouldn’t have been so frantic that he climbed the wall to see her. And once he saw her, he just wanted to stay with her a little longer. Before he knew it, he had spent the entire night at her ho.
He said softly, "I’ll be more careful from now on."
"That little rascal," Master Nathan muttered, but his voice was filled with pride.
He knew his grandson well. Nathaniel wasn’t the type to act recklessly, but matters of the heart involved too many uncontrollable factors. That was why he felt the need to offer a word of caution.
