Nathaniel Nathan waited for the blush to fade from her face before asking her, "Rember that?"

Vera Xavier: "..."

’She wasn’t an idiot. Of course she wasn’t going to say whether she rembered or not at a ti like this.’

Because Vera Xavier had exams to study for, Nathaniel Nathan drove her back to the compound right after dinner. As usual, he dropped her off outside the gates, and she walked the rest of the way in.

Just as she got out of the car, he called out to her, "Vera Xavier!"

Vera Xavier turned to look at him. He pulled a large bag of lollipops from the car and handed it to her. "Here."

When Vera Xavier saw the bag of lollipops, her eyes went wide. ’Holy crap, when did he buy these? How did I not notice?’

Nathaniel Nathan glanced at her, then at the lollipops. Vera Xavier had no choice but to take the bag. She cleared her throat and said, "This is too much!"

"It’s fine. Take your ti with them," Nathaniel Nathan said, his tone cool.

Vera Xavier rubbed her nose. "Thanks!" she said, then turned and walked away.

Nathaniel Nathan’s gaze deepened as he watched her leave. ’She’s been different toward since she hit her head this ti. But I can still tell that deep down, a part of her is still resisting .’

’The thought displeased him, but at least she wasn’t afraid of him anymore, and she didn’t take detours just to avoid him. That was already huge progress. He was just being too greedy.’

He reached up and touched his own lips, a fresh wave of regret washing over him. The kiss was too fast. He had only felt how warm and soft her lips were, but he hadn’t gotten a chance to savor her taste.

He regretted it. If he had known she wouldn’t get angry, he should have savored the taste.

Grandma Dixon looked up and said, "Oh, Vera, your father ca by this afternoon. When he saw you weren’t here, he asked to let you know he’s been sent away on official business. He won’t be back until next week."

Vera Xavier replied sweetly, "Thank you, Grandma Dixon!"

Grandma Dixon gave a slight, aningful smile. Vera took the hint and leaned in as Grandma Dixon whispered, "With your father gone, you need to be careful."

Vera Xavier knew what Grandma Dixon was implying. She knew the old woman ant well and nodded lightly. "I know."

"If you need anything, just shout. I’m right next door," Grandma Dixon whispered.

Normally, she wasn’t the type to ddle in other people’s family matters, but her heart truly ached for Vera, and she utterly despised Rona Langdon. That was why she felt compelled to speak up.

Knowing Grandma Dixon ant well, Vera Xavier simply smiled and headed inside.

The front door was bolted. Cara Preston wasn’t back yet—she had probably gone to see Elise Langdon again. The pots in the kitchen were cold on a cold stove, and there was nothing to eat. Rona Langdon wasn’t ho either.
