Chapter 1050: Chapter 1048- The Struggles Pay.

Vex’s smile didn’t falter even as she took us in. Like she’d already calculated everything.

“I have to say, I didn’t think the ones we were hunting would e in use. You two really are a big pain in my ass, but this is good too. I was itching for new test materials anyway.”

She continued, stepping out of the mand centre with the kind of casual confidence, her origin level 9 strength on display. Elowen didn’t respond with words. She just moved.

Her hands came up. The water around us started to move with purpose, swirling with this deep, purposeful current. Massive coral constructs erupted from the walls. They were shaped like blooming flowers, but massive and terrifying, with thorns the size of swords jutting from their petals. The constructs moved with singular focus, charging toward Vex.

Vex met them without hesitation, while I took a backseat to enjoy the show. There was a lot unsaid here, and I will just enjoy the show.

She threw her hands up, and corrupted energy exploded outward in a wave that shattered the lead coral guardian. The construct crumbled, but Elowen was already growing more. Her eyes were pletely fixed on Vex now, and the bloom spots covering her shoulders and collarbone were glowing so bright they were almost white.

“You want to talk about useful? How about you be a useful bitch and let me kill you in the most painful way possible, you fucking ugly ass old bitch!”

Elowen’s voice came out differently now. Colder. Sharper. She moved forward, and the water itself seemed to part for her. Her water-whip materialised not just one, but three of them, all writhing with independent purpose, all covered in vines that had thorns like daggers. They cracked forward simultaneously, each one aimed at a different point on Vex’s body. The attacks moved with precision that came from years of actual bat.

Vex blocked the first whip with a shield of dark energy, but the second one wrapped around her arm. I watched as the vines contracted, and thorns bit deep into her skin, drawing blood that glowed faintly with corruption. She screamed and blasted the vine away with raw power, but Elowen was already moving forward.

I stayed back near the corridor entrance, exactly where Elowen had positioned me with a single glance before this started. This wasn’t my fight. This was Elowen’s. She needed to do this herself, and I needed to not interfere unless things went catastrophically wrong. My job was to watch. To make sure no reinforcements came through any of the other passages. To bear witness to what was about to happen.

Vex recovered fast, her expression shifting from amusement to actual focus. She threw waves of corrupted energy at Elowen, trying to push her back, to create distance. But Elowen didn’t retreat. She grew another coral construct, this one smaller and more aggressive, shaped like a thorned serpent. It wrapped around Vex’s legs while the water-whips came at her again from multiple angles.

“You think you’re better than me?! Some bitch who was born into power, I can smell it from you! Born into prestige! Born into talent! What would a golden spoon bitch like you know of my struggles!?”

Vex spat, breaking free from the coral serpent by overloading it with corrupted power. Elowen didn’t rise to the bait. She just attacked harder.

Her third water-whip cracked forward with enough force to crack the stone around it, and Vex barely managed to dodge. The whip struck the wall behind her instead, leaving a deep groove in the rock. Elowen was breathing hard now, but her movements were precise. Every attack had a purpose. Every strike was calculated.

She grew vines from the floor itself, thick, pulsing vines covered in thorns that jutted upward like a forest of spikes. Vex tried to jump over them, but Elowen pulled the water around her, creating a current that forced her back down into the thornscape. Thorns punctured her legs, her sides, her arms. Blood streamed from a dozen wounds now, and she was starting to look genuinely afraid.

“I didn’t want this, I didn’t want to e here, to e back to all this horror, to get a second chance! I didn’t ask for any of this! I just wanted to be dead! to meet them all again! to….to rest!”

Elowen said, and her voice was cold, almost emotionless in a way te filled iwth emotions, something about breaking between two points of view. Even more Vex was just fucking confused about what this bitch was even saying.

“What the fuck is wrong with this bitch!? I am exactly what I wanted to bee. Powerful. Important. Running something beyond what the waters can hold.”

Vex snarled, pushing back against the vine forest with another wave of corrupted power. She broke through, but she was injured and bleeding and clearly exhausting her reserves just to stay alive.

“You are just running a torture chamber. You just torture innocent people. Transforming them into weapons. All because you wanted power badly enough to stop giving a shit about the cost, and even then you didn’t even achieve anything, still stuck at where you are, you useless cunt.”

Elowen said flatly.

Elowen raised both her hands, and I felt the entire facility shift again. This time it wasn’t just minor constructs. This was something bigger. A massive coral guardian erupted from the floor itself, shaped like a blooming flower with petals that were sharp enough to cut steel. It was enormous, easily twenty feet tall, with thorns that looked like they could impale buildings. It moved with Elowen’s will, and it moved with purpose.

Vex tried to run. Actually tried to just bolt for one of the side passages. But Elowen was faster. Her water-whips extended impossibly long, wrapping around Vex’s legs and holding her in place. The massive coral guardian came down like a hammer, and Vex screamed as it slammed into her position.

When the dust cleared, she was still alive. Bloodied and broken, but alive. She was on her knees, and she was laughing. Actually laughing.

“Yo-You are just lucky…..”

She gasped through blood-stained teeth. Elowen walked forward slowly. The bloom spots on her shoulders were glowing so bright now that they were almost painful to look at. She summoned her water-whips again, and this time they didn’t move with the fluid grace from before. This time, they moved with killing intent.

“You’re not wrong, I am lucky, but what can you do about it? This is a different timeline. I’m a different version of myself. And in this version? It seems I will have to live it differently.”

She said quietly.

The water-whips came down, Vex was gone, and Elowen was standing alone in the mand centre, her entire body shaking.

Her bloom spots were still glowing, but there was something else now. Something darker. She had crossed a line again, thus her talent would be attached to her, the pain, the despair and the talent.

“There are systems here, mana signature systems. munication logs. Everything we need to trace the chain of mand.”

I said quietly, moving forward into the mand centre now. By now, the others stationed will be rushing here, so we need to get things done quickly.

Elowen didn’t respond immediately. She just stood there, looking at where Vex had been. Her water-whips slowly faded back into the water, and her bloom spots dimmed until they were just a soft glow again.

“She was right about one thing: I did spend years being lucky, being born lucky. Telling myself I was above it all.”

Elowen said finally, her voice hoarse. She looked at me, and her amber eyes were pletely different now. Harder. Clearer.

“Turns out I was just a coward. And cowardice costs lives.”

I didn’t argue with her. Didn’t try to make her feel better. Just moved to the main terminals and started searching for the munication logs she was talking about. Behind me, I could hear her breathing, heavy and deliberate, as she forced herself to process what she’d just done.

“There are backups, Multiple secure files. They’re encrypted, but if we have time “

I said after a few minutes of searching.

“We don’t have time, get what you can grab. Documents, data storage, anything that looks like it has records on it. We have maybe ten minutes before the facility realises their mander isn’t responding to munications.”

Elowen cut me off. She was moving now, her earlier shock fading back into focused determination. I started pulling data storage modules from the system, shoving them into a satchel I found. Elowen was gathering documents, moving with efficiency now. She knew this facility. She knew exactly where the important records would be kept.

The alarm started blaring just as we were heading back toward the maintenance passage.

“Fuck, they know. They know we’re here.”

Elowen breathed.

She grabbed my shoulder, about to say something, when she fainted. I held her body as I felt the lightness in her, a smile ing to my face at the small step she had taken forward. With a thought, she disappeared from my arms, leaving me alone in here. Taking out a mana bomb, I placed it around the room.

The plan had small hiccups here and there but things ended up as well as I hoped it can get, I had put a target on her and it was ane xtra surpie when the mander here was part of her past, even more so when I got a lot of data from her too, thus with a smile I too dissapered from the place, soon several one sinavdded the place and then….

BOOM!!

The whole place went down.
