Vol 2 Chapter 118: The Cult's Ambush and Sniper

The alien star Eye Tyrant monsters floated within the forest, moving slowly. Their eyes opened, their massive eyeballs gazing down at the team galloping below. Even in the night, it did not hinder their ability to see the situation in the darkness.

The 'demon contractors' bound by fate to these Eye Tyrants issued commands in the dark. Imdiately, violet-red particles gathered within their pupils, locking onto the moving figures below and firing piercing deep violet rays.

They gave these knights no ti to react or dodge. In an instant, the bodies of five knights were pierced through by the rays, falling from their warhorses. Several of the remaining knights were also injured, with so limbs severely wounded.

"Defend!" Nokton roared urgently.

A gray-white light screen rose, spreading from beneath his feet and connecting with the knights around him. Like a sturdy city wall, it protected the knights within.

After that, the deep violet rays fired again collided with the gray-white light screen, bursting into fierce sparks of energy before extinguishing.

Although the light screen was sowhat weakened, it still held firm, preventing these Eye Tyrants from harming the remaining seven knights.

At this mont, Nokton swept his gaze over the slopes on both sides. He and the knights beside him temporarily halted their horses, letting the relatively unhard few assist the injured mbers, while he himself gripped his warhamr and remained vigilant on his horse.

"Despicable Regas rats, is this the only thod you'll employ?" His voice spread through the night like thunder, audible to those on both hillsides.

Unfortunately, the mbers of the Hundred-Eyes Sect paid no heed to such mockery. They were cultists alien to the world, why would they fear such insults? Furthermore, most of them were not even n of Regas.

Seeing no response, only those enemies in the darkness continuing to shoot and attack, Nokton was furious, but also had a bad premonition.

This didn't seem like the style of the n of Regas. Or even if those gutter rats wanted to, they didn't have this capability.

Alien star? And the aura of Distortion... The enemies ahead were probably not here with good intentions.

Thinking of this, Nokton retrieved the special signal arrow carried at his waist, pulled the safety cord below, and then aid it at the sky to fire.

A special arrow shot toward the high sky with a sharp whistling sound. Just as it was about to explode and release the rescue flare signal, a deep violet ray flashed, prematurely destroying and shattering the signal arrow, leaving only scattered sparks to sprinkle down at low altitude.

Seeing this, Nokton's heart sank.

From the mont he fired the signal arrow to it being shattered, it was only 2-3 seconds. Even if a skilled archer or ranger saw it, they couldn't possibly hit it in the dark, but the enemy ahead had done it.

Rays. This precise and rapid thod of attack was truly hard to guard against.

The attacks from the hillside continued. Deep violet rays shot out intermittently from the darkness, gradually weakening the gray-white light screen. Inside, after receiving aid, the remaining seven knights gathered around Nokton, holding shields and longswords, forming a temporary defensive formation.

As Transcendents of the 'Castle' Aspect, if not for the earlier ambush, they were among the Aspects most skilled in defense. The gray-white light screen, though seemingly thin, persistently blocked the ray attacks like an iron curtain.

The situation fell into a brief stalemate. This place was about fifteen kiloters from Valley City, a distance neither far nor near. At any ti, cavalryn from the Kingdom of Ante could co from Valley City to scout and provide support.

Considering this situation, the Hundred-Eyes Sect on the mountain increased their attack frequency and dispatched so personnel to gradually approach the knight formation below.

'They're a bit flustered.' Nokton suddenly felt in the mood to crack a small joke with his comrades.

Since the other side was sowhat anxious, it ant their confidence wasn't that great either. He and his n still had considerable hope.

At this mont, Nokton glanced behind him. The knights who could move had basically stood up, with only one leaning against his horse due to a missing leg.

"Everyone, mount up. Those with difficulty moving, get help from others. Prepare to break out with ."

Staying here was ultimately waiting for death. They also had to take the initiative.

"Yes."

The line of knights followed him, mounting their horses. Then Nokton turned his horse and charged out, breaking through toward the direction of Valley City.

"Go!"

The sound of hooves once again rang out on the mountain road. Seeing these knights trying to leave, the Hundred-Eyes Sect on the hillside finally grew sowhat panicked and disorganized. They began to quickly charge down the slope, and so personnel took out crossbows to shoot. However, these crossbows were utterly useless against the iron curtain beside the knights.

"That leading warrior is a great threat." A figure who had stood silently in the darkness for a long ti spoke. Then he removed his hood, revealing a bizarre face.

Where two eyes originally grew, a pair of violet-red eyeballs now appeared above them. Four eyes opened simultaneously, appearing particularly strange in the darkness.

His four pupils now swirled with light, locking onto Nokton charging at the front below. He raised both hands, and two eyes opened on each palm.

Six eyes flashed with dangerous violet-red brilliance at the sa ti, then fired out blazing rays.

In an instant, the gray-white iron curtain beside Nokton was penetrated. The six converged rays of light engulfed his body.

A hoarse and furious roar, like the painful cry of a wounded beast, echoed through the mountains.

Several breaths later, the light dispersed. Nokton's figure reappeared. The warhorse beneath him had lted and died, his armor was charred and shattered, and his body was full of bloody, mangled craters. Yet, this warrior still leaned on his giant hamr, not falling.

"General!" The knights behind imdiately rushed to his side, protecting this warrior and raising a solid, thick barrier.

On the distant hillside, the cult leader who had launched the attack wore an unpleasant expression.

"He actually didn't die."

This was his full-power strike as a 'Fourth Order · Alien Star'. To think it didn't kill the other party. It could only be said that Nokton was truly tenacious.

After a brief pause, the breakout progress slowed. The cultists charging down from the hillside finally reached the mountain road and began to attack these knights.

They, of course, did not choose close combat. Instead, they took out the crossbows in their hands, aid at the knights below, and loaded special Demon-breaking bolts to shoot.

In response, the knights either chose passive resistance or scattered to counterattack.

If they scattered to counterattack, they could indeed inflict heavy casualties on these frail cultists. But their defense would weaken upon dispersing, making them vulnerable to concentrated fire from those strange Eye Tyrants on the hillside.

Just as these knights found themselves in a dilemma, Nokton propped himself up again and scanned his surroundings.

"Break through forward." He roared, then charged forward, gripping his giant hamr.

The cultists along the way were easily crushed and shattered under his warhamr, sent flying and broken.

Seeing their commander still so fierce, the remaining knights' morale also greatly boosted, and they followed closely.

The battle continued in the night. Cultists constantly charged down from the mountain to join the resistance. And this group of knights from the Kingdom of Ante also carved a bloody path through the darkness, constantly moving closer to the direction of Valley City.
