The capital of the Golden Sun Kingdom was one of the largest cities on the Blue Moon Continent, with almost five million inhabitants and teeming with life even at night.
Its streets were well lit. The brothels, taverns and even teahouses were still overflowing with custors, even though it was late at night.
Away from the busy main streets, two figures walked in the darkness.
Both were covered in cloaks of spiritual silk, only their faces barely visible in the dim light that t them.
The first had an aged face and a gentle smile.
The second possessed incomparable beauty, her mature, tanned features dotted with subtle, elegant make-up, blood-red lips and beautiful, piercing brown eyes.
But those beautiful eyes were shaky, as were her steps.
"Master..." Hua Feiyan’s lips opened slightly, drawing Mada Xue’s attention.
"What is it, dear?" Mada Xue stopped her steps, her aged eyes scanning her dear disciple’s worried expression.
"Are you sure about this woman?" Feiyan asked, her fingers anxiously intertwined.
"Ah..." Mada Xue exhaled heavily before looking up at the sky, the stars dimd by light pollution.
"I once had a husband... I was terribly in love with him, to the point where my heart would break just by spending a night away from each other..."
"During the war between the three great sects and the Kingdom of the Golden Sun a hundred and fifty years ago, he disappeared.
For more than twenty years, I searched for him..." Mada Xue’s words died away briefly.
There was pain in them, a pain long suppressed but still there.
"It was this woman who helped find his body and give him a proper burial."
Hearing those words, Feiyan shuddered, lowering her face.
What if she found out that her Qingyi was actually dead?
What if all she got was a place where she would find a sun-dried corpse?
It made her breathing uneasy and her heart bleed.
But she controlled herself, cald her mind and took a step forward.
She had already cried everything she had to cry, nights without being able to sleep and days without being able to eat.
She was tired of it.
She knew that her Qingyi wouldn’t like to see her like this.
"Let’s go." Mada Xue smiled and they soon arrived at a small, shabby house.
"You must enter alone. A drop of blood is all the paynt she needs."
Hua Feiyan nodded silently before entering the house.
Her steps were a little uncertain.
Why would soone with such peculiar power hide in such an inappropriate place?
But the mont she stepped through the door, she realized that this was no ordinary place.
Her mind was taken over by a calming aura, her eyes lost their worry and her steps stopped shaking.
"Have you lost your beloved, my dear?" A voice called out to her, old and hoarse, carrying a maternal gentleness.
Feiyan imdiately felt her heart tremble, her eyes focusing on an old woman sitting casually, her hands resting on an orb on a table.
How did she know that?
"Sit down, honey. I believe you’re in a hurry, aren’t you?"
Feiyan paused for a single mont, but in the end bit her lower lip before stepping forward and sitting down in a chair opposite the old woman.
Without hesitation, she brought her index finger to her teeth, tearing the delicate skin before raising it over the orb. A single drop of blood dripped from the wound.
A bright smile ca over the old woman, who grabbed Feiyan’s hands, placing them under the orb and closing her eyes.
"Tell , darling... who was this man to you?"
"He was my everything."
"And how far would you go for him?"
"Until my soul is gone."
"Hm..." The old woman looked surprised. Both answers were the absolute truth.
That kind of custor was rare. Most always had a small lie among their statents.
"And how far do you think he would go for you?" she asked.
"I know that not even the heavens would stop him."
"You know? And what gives you that confidence?"
"Because he’s my Qingyi." Feiyan replied, and the old woman’s smile intensified.
Another truth.
"Close your eyes, dear. I can feel your beloved." The old woman instructed and Feiyan obeyed without question.
The next mont, she felt a strange energy enter her hands.
It wasn’t like the Qi she was used to. It was thin, subtle, almost as if it had no real presence.
And then she felt her obscured vision light up. For a brief mont, she saw it.
Standing among a trail of destruction, a handso young man with long black hair and piercing eyes.
His sword was drawn, but there was no enemy around. He was just casually practicing.
It all lasted only a single second before Feiyan’s vision was drawn back to her body.
Her heart almost burst out of her chest and tears ran down her cheeks.
Her Qingyi was alive, his body without a single injury, to the point where he could even train in a relaxed manner.
She had never felt so relieved in her entire life, as if she had been carrying a cargo ship on her chest and that ship had suddenly beco a small toy boat.
"Thank you very much-" Feiyan suddenly stood up, ready to say thank you, but as the words left her lips, she realized that she was already outside.
The house had disappeared, replaced by an ordinary comrcial establishnt.
Her watery eyes scanned everything around her, soon eting those of her master.
"Good news?" Mada Xue laughed, realizing that the tears in her disciple’s eyes were not tears of sorrow.
They were tears of happiness.
"Thank you, master! I promise to train hard and reach the golden core realm before the alchemy tournant!" Feiyan threw herself into Mada Xue’s arms, hugging her tightly.
Her Qingyi was alive and well.
She was sure of that now. Even if they couldn’t et right now, she was still happy.
She knew he would be back soon.
