Chenfeng was confused for a moment, one eyebrow raised in doubt.
If it had been anyone else approaching his late wife’s grave, he would have exploded with rage on the spot, unceremoniously chasing the wretch away. But Qingyi was his son-in-law.
What was there to fear?
Qingyi ignored the confusion etched on his father-in-law’s face, narrowing his eyes with calm.
One of the most fundamental aspects of the Nine Paths of Creation Reversal Art—and the first thing he had learned upon mastering it—was the reversal of absolutely everything.
Time, Causality, the states of matter, death itself.
With sufficient control, he was capable of reversing even the damage to his own meridians.
When he had first mastered only the basics of that technique, he had even revived not just an extinguished star, but an entire planet that lay dead in the silent vacuum of space.
That was the true power of his technique: the ability to revert anything to a previous state, as if he were pressing the "save game" button of the very great creator of this world.
Naturally, if he could reverse the death of a planet, reversing the death of a human would be trivial.
Even if a person’s soul had already pletely dissipated, all he needed was access to a single remnant of the physical body—and provided the difference in cultivation level wasn’t too large—he could bring that person back to the world of the living.
If it were any other technique, he would, without a shadow of a doubt, be immediately struck by one of the most devastating heavenly tribulations of extermination—a divine punishment for daring to tamper with timelines and causality.
But who, in the entire vast universe, would have the audacity to stop the Creator’s own martial art?
The heavens were too low to even perceive what was happening right under their noses.
A pained groan escaped Qingyi’s lips as his fingers reached out, touching the cold marble of the tomb that held what remained of his father-in-law’s late wife.
His eyes flashed with unshakable determination, and he channeled all his Qi toward the corpse, sparing not a single drop.
In the next instant, a sharp explosion echoed through the mausoleum, powerful enough to send even Chenfeng reeling a few steps backward.
At first, sheer terror was etched on his face as he watched the resting place of his beloved wife being shattered before his very eyes.
But that terror soon turned to sheer shock.
From the floor, he saw his wife’s corpse—now reduced to nothing but bones—levitate out of nowhere, her tattered funeral robes still hanging from her white bones.
In the next moment, he watched flesh, blood, tendons, and meridians—all sprouting and intertwining around her bones, life itself being woven back into its perfect form.
Even her funeral gown regained its former glory and beauty, the golden silk shining once more as it embraced a body that took on sensual curves with every passing second.
A face of transcendent beauty emerged like a living painting, covered in skin as smooth as jade and framed by long cascades of blue hair that flowed down to her waist.
Chenfeng rose slowly, in disbelief.
He had allowed himself to grow old, for after losing her, there was no longer any reason to maintain his own vitality and beauty.
Gradually, his body returned to the height of its glory, the aged features and wrinkles giving way to a handsome and strong face, only slightly inferior to Qingyi’s.
He could alter his body’s apparent age at will—something all experts above the Transcendence Realm, provided they were not yet too old, were capable of doing.
Still, that change had not been intentional.
Simply seeing her again made him feel young once more, and with that overwhelming feeling, without even realizing it, he ended up returning to who he would have been had he never let his body waste away.
The woman’s lips parted slightly, and a powerful gush of air filled her lungs, bringing life back to her chest with a silent shudder.
Qingyi, exhausted to his core, halted the flow of Qi and staggered backward, his knees nearly buckling under his own weight.
The woman, still suspended in the air, began to plummet toward the ground, but fortunately, someone was ready to catch her.
Chenfeng appeared beneath her in the blink of an eye, arms outstretched, catching her with gentleness.
His lips curved into a trembling smile as he watched her eyes begin to open.
Inside, his heart was screaming with pure happiness, while at the same time he was begging the heavens that this was truly his wife, and not just an empty shell bearing her face.
Slowly, the eyes of the beauty in his arms opened fully, resting on Chenfeng’s face.
"H-honey... what happened? Where are we? Where are the assassins?" Her voice echoed, still fragile and trembling.
All she remembered was being alone in a pavilion, the cold blade tearing through her heart, and Chenfeng’s desperate scream as he tore through all the assassins and ran toward her.
Her eyes had closed, and when she opened them again, she was there, in the arms of the man she loved.
"I killed them all, my love... they’ll never hurt you again..." Chenfeng leaned over her, sealing her lips with a kiss laden with centuries of pent-up longing.
When the kiss finally broke, he smiled, his eyes brimming with held-back tears. "Lin’er... you’re just as beautiful as the day I lost you."
Lin’er didn’t answer right away. She raised her delicate, still-weak fingers to Chenfeng’s face, caressing his cheek with infinite tenderness. "When did you reach the realm of the Stellar Sovereign?"
When she heard Chenfeng’s reply, her face was filled with deep sorrow.
It was obvious what had happened.
Qingyi rose slowly, watching the reunited couple with a satisfied smile on his lips.
From within his robes, he retrieved an item, slightly melted by the flames of primordial chaos, but still fully functional.
It was the Dragon Elder’s space ring, filled with cultivation resources from the land of the true gods.
That was the reward intended for the Cosmic Void Sect—what had been promised in exchange for Rou’er.
He flung it toward Chenfeng, who caught it with a gentle flow of Qi.
"Advance to the realm of the Cosmic Emperor... when I reach the central region, I will ask Tianjin to take care of everything so that your sect may also ascend to the central region," said Qingyi.
"Oh... and who are you?" Lin’er turned her face, drawing a sweet smile from Qingyi’s lips.
"I am Long Qingyi, your son-in-law. Greetings, mother-in-law."
For a moment, Lin’er’s eyes widened.
She knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that her husband would never betray her. Therefore, there was only one possibility left: he had adopted a child.
"Where is she?" Lin’er nearly leaped out of her husband’s arms, her eyes already sparkling with excited anticipation.
Her dream had always been to have a child, and even if that child were adopted, she would be immensely happy.
"She’s in my palace... do you want to go see her now?"
"Yes!" Lin’er nodded with almost childlike excitement, and Chenfeng wrapped a firm arm around her delicate waist, supporting her gently.
Together, they soared into the skies and flew off toward the sect leader’s palace, leaving only a trail of light behind them.
Qingyi watched them depart with a proud smile on his lips.
One day, he asked himself what, after all, was the true reason behind his ambition to rise to power.
He liked glory, he liked blood, he liked victory.
But none of that was, in fact, his ambition.
He harbored no illusions of a supreme dao, nor dreams of being a great emperor reigning over millions of subjects.
He fought and bled for a single reason—for nothing other than the happiness of those he loved.
He wanted to be the most powerful only to ensure that he would never, ever fail to protect them, just as Chenfeng had once failed to protect his wife.
He had fought for the happiness of his women his entire life, and he would continue to fight until he reached the very pinnacle, until nothing remained around him but their touch, their love, and the crystal-clear sound of his children’s laughter.
Qingyi let out a soft sigh, and soon realized something.
"And... I’ve been forgotten." He laughed bitterly.
Well, it made sense; he, too, would forget the entire world if he had a woman of that caliber in his arms after losing her for hundreds of thousands of years.
Shaking his head, he soared into the skies, heading toward the pavilion of Chen Wei, his best friend in the Cosmic Dawn Sect.
It was time to find out if he wanted to stay in the sect or acpany him to the central region.
When he got there, to his surprise, the first person he saw was Chen Wei’s wife.
"Oh... has he already gotten her pregnant?" Qingyi’s eyes widened.
He was really making the most of having his dick back after all that torture at the hands of Beifeng...
