Close to the abyssal gate, Rage engaged in a fight with two abyssal creatures.
They had dark human-like bodies that were 6m tall. Their bodies looked as though they were made of black burned flesh with no skin, and their dark hands had extra joints and ended with sharp dark claws.
From their backs erged dark tendrils that moved in different directions, as though each had its own brain. And they had dark openings on their chests, revealing their inside that looked like the dark space.
As for their faces, they looked like featureless dark faces that none could see through, though on closer observation, one could see that it had a mouth filled with sharp teeth inside that darkness.
That was what the Abyssal Hunters looked like, the most common Rank 3 beings in the Abyss.
✧IMG✧
Or to be precise, that was how they looked before the beginning of the fight.
The first was now in a miserable condition, struggling to even keep standing. All of its tendrils and limbs were cleanly cut, and its flesh gave the scent of burned at as so arcs of golden lightning flashed across its body.
BAM!
A giant hamr suddenly smashed the abyssal hunter with explosive force and speed, turning it into a ss of strange dark organs.
"That’s one." Raga smirked and glanced at the second abyssal hunter, which was missing only one arm.
As for Raga himself, his condition was far better. The only wounds he had were so scratches and the missing arm that was caused by Dante, which had healed until the wrist.
ROAAAAR!
The abyssal hunter disappeared and lted into the shadows. The next mont, the shadow itself disappeared, leaving no trace of the abyssal hunter.
Raga clicked his tongue: "Tsk, that’s why I hate darkness."
He didn’t even bother to use Zoran’s trick of using lightning to produce enough light to push the shadows away.
What that beast had used wasn’t the Shadow Aspect that Dante possessed. It was the darkness itself.
Raga closed his eyes and focused on his other senses. To be precise, he focused on his sense of wind.
"Got you!"
A change in the wind currents was detected by his sharp senses, coming from only a few steps behind him. Instantly, his body moved at a blurry speed, cutting the distance and appearing at that spot.
At the exact sa mont, the abyssal hunter appeared in that spot as a mist of darkness, charging forward.
But it couldn’t find Raga.
Instead, it saw the shadow of a giant hamr looming over it.
BAM!
The hamr smashed into the ground, but the abyssal hunter dodged it, losing only one of its tendrils.
"...!"
However, the next mont, a hole appeared in its shoulder with no sound.
"Tsk, I was aiming for the head." Raga grinned and disappeared from his place.
The air in his path disappeared. There was no resistance to his path, there was no ground friction in his steps, there was no sound caused by him.
His body was coated in lightning, several air jets were on his wings and legs, pushing his speed to the limits.
From the abyssal hunter’s perspective, he was faster than a blink.
The first mont, Raga was standing there.
The second mont, a hamr had already struck its side, crushing its arm and throwing it away.
The only thing that could be heard was the sound of the beast cutting through the air, but the hamr strike itself caused no sounds or shockwaves, unlike the previous one.
That was the power of his advanced aspect — Vacuum!
The abyssal hunter thrust the ground with its tendrils and the claws of its remaining hand, forcing itself to stop to regain its balance.
For a mont, its dark gaze fell on the abyssal gate, which was expanding slowly, bending the already weak space around it.
It knew that it had barely any hope to kill Raga, but running away was not an option.
With such speed, Raga could catch up to it in a split second, and even if it escaped, the abyssal gate itself could kill it. Thus, it decided to let everything out.
Raga’s eyes suddenly darkened briefly. No, the area itself beca darker.
"You’re finally using it, huh? It’s a sha I couldn’t kill you like the other one." Raga’s muscles tensed as he prepared himself to escape the upcoming attack
The abyssal hunters were weak. The only thing they were good at was the power of their numbers and their stealth.
However, the abyssal gate wasn’t stable yet, preventing many beasts from passing through it together. Most beasts would be torn apart if they tried to enter the gate at this mont.
Actually, Raga was rather surprised that two beasts were lucky enough to pass. The fact that they even tried was illogical, as they were supposed to have so intelligence and realize that danger.
Regardless, when their numbers and stealth skills were excluded, only one thing would remain that made them quite dangerous. It was a last attack that would drain them to the bones, a big gamble that could cause their deaths if they were unlucky enough.
The abyssal hunter lted into a shadow and appeared as far as it could. Then, it gathered and coiled its tendrils together at its chest opening, forming a pipe-like structure of tendrils connected to the dark opening.
The design resembled a body cannon!
The opening turned darker all of a sudden, absorbing all the light that tried to enter it. At this mont, Raga’s golden lightning exploded to push his body to the limit, sending waves of lightning in every direction.
Raga had high confidence in his strength, but everyone who visited the Abyss knew so well that the last attack of an abyssal hunter shouldn’t be underestimated.
And then it happened.
It made no sounds, it didn’t cause a flashy show. It just happened.
With no warning, a beam of darkness launched from the tendril pipe and headed toward Raga.
It erased the air, the earth, the debris, and everything it touched from existence. It was an absolute attack that could kill an experienced master if they didn’t have a good defensive thod.
The beam was faster than what Raga’s eyes could follow, but his instincts were faster than his eyes.
"Vacuum Tunnel!" That was what Raga muttered half a second before the beam was fired, the mont he saw the opening darkening.
With a clear path and no resistance, his body and wings moved on their own, using high-pressure air jets and the lightning to evade the attack.
Fast, fast, fast!
His movent was faster than what most Rank 2 beings could see. In a split second, he evaded the beam without even leaving afterimages.
But it wasn’t a perfect evasion.
"Damn!"
His half-healed arm was erased once again and more than half of his wing disappeared, affecting his balance and speed.
Thud!
But the abyssal hunter was in a worse condition.
As if it was out of energy, it fell onto the ground and stopped moving.
Its tendrils disappeared. The beam didn’t spare them when it was launched. Their only purpose was to work as conductors for the beam.
Its body was now grey like ash, with no hint of darkness on it. But it wasn’t dead yet.
"Finally." Raga sighed as he prepared himself to kill the abyssal hunter.
"I should also return to that boy."
He wasn’t afraid that Dante would escape. He only had to search for him. Raga was confident that no one could escape from him.
And to be safe, he used Elizabeth as a bait to cut Dante’s lower half off. Even as a demon, he’d need ti to heal it, unless he used a special relic.
It was a misfortune that he had to kill the girl, though. Unfortunately, she could use the healing light magic. He didn’t want to underestimate Dante too much and let him recover.
"Hmm? This is...?"
Just then, he noticed sothing strange in the sky. There was an object in blue flas passing close enough to be visible despite the morning sun, covering Raga’s sight and turning the light blue.
’Oh, a passing teor. Zoran loved watching them.’ An adorable mory of a giant kid resurfaced in Raga’s mind.
It was just a passing teor, which was commonly seen.
However, as he was about to turn his gaze back toward the abyssal hunter, he saw another, smaller teor moving in the opposite direction.
It looked normal at first, until the small teor hit the side of the big one, causing it to change its path midway.
And it was now heading toward...
"..."
...The exact sa spot where Raga stood.
A teor was heading toward him.
A goddamn teor was heading toward him!
And Raga had only a second before the impact.
He had no ti to process that a teor was heading toward him. With his eyes wide open, his tongue moved on its own to cast a spell.
Even as the fastest master in the world, he needed preparation. He wasn’t the fastest caster.
Desperately, he tried to escape with only normal techniques, but the blue teor was now close enough to blind an eagle and burn the trees.
He couldn’t avoid it.
’Screw my luck.’
BOOM!
