"It’s about to happen."
In one of the upper floors of the prison’s main building, a demoness stood in a big room, overseeing the whole prison at once.
Her green snake-like eyes were staring at the ceiling, yet her brain was processing so much information at once.
She saw every single prisoner in their cells.
She saw every single guard and senior guard doing their job.
She saw the seven anomalies that she focused on most of the ti.
Six of them were in the five special cells, while the seventh didn’t seem dangerous enough to be put there.
However, even among anomalies, her focus was leaning toward a certain three of them.
One of them had the highest number of guards, the second had almost no guards, and the third wasn’t even in a cell.
For now, her biggest concern was the one with no guards.
She suddenly stopped observing the prison and focused solely on him. He was talking to himself like a lunatic, hurting himself in the process.
"We might need to put sothing else on him. That amount of pain seems to be normal to him." The demoness sighed and continued watching.
BAM!
All of a sudden, the door of her room was opened by a kick. A giant man entered the room with a grim expression.
"We must kill him." The man hissed: "He’s becoming a real threat. In a few minutes, the sa incident as every previous month will repeat. We don’t know what he’s doing or how he chooses his targets, but we’re sure it’s him!"
"The guards are already panicking and they’re asking us to do sothing about him. We can’t just keep watching like this!"
The demoness waited for the giant until he finished his speech. After he was done, she finally opened her mouth: "Attempting to kill him would bring a calamity to this prison, that’s what the prediction relic had told us. It said only to attempt, not even kill him for real."
The giant clenched his fists firmly as the demoness added: "Don’t look at like this. I really want to kill him too, but Lord Valor is having so troubles because of the gate which that anomaly had opened. He’s one of the only few people in Uldor who could kill that anomaly while ignoring the prediction of the relic."
"Of course, if you have sothing you’re hiding that can help us to see an alternative future, you can use it and tell us that nothing bad is going to happen."
The giant fell silent, unable to say anything. He couldn’t break her point.
The demoness poured herself a cup of wine and took a sip casually: "Unfortunately, for now, we have only two options. The first is to keep him like that and try to find a counter for whatever he uses. But we have tried several tis already and I can’t ensure that this ti will be different. Even with all my eyes, I never caught a movent from him."
"Our second option is to just let him... leave. We free him and all the anomalies and let them wander in the Abyss. What do you think we should do?"
"Is that even a question?" The giant sighed: "We can’t free them. That would be a direct defiance of Lord Valor’s orders and authority. We can’t free a prisoner who was brought here by Valor himself!"
"And that returns us to the first point." The demoness crossed her legs and smiled: "We can’t kill him because of a stupid relic. We can’t let him leave because that would be offensive to our kind. We can’t stop him from whatever he’s doing after trying several tis. Tell , what should we do?"
The giant lowered his head in frustration: "...Wait to see who his new victim is and stop that person, even if it ant killing him."
"Exactly." The demoness pointed at her eyes: "I’ll do my role and observe all people. You should do the sa and wait for to find anything suspicious. Our tasks are simple, right?"
"I... I truly hate this. He’s just a Rank 2 kid!" The giant roared, struggling to stay calm.
A whole prison filled with masters didn’t know what to do regarding only a simple Rank 2 being.
They even had to lie to their subordinates and tell them that they couldn’t kill him because there was no "evidence" and that they needed Valor’s acceptance to do that.
It was one thing to free him, but killing him was doable.
Evidence? They didn’t need any! In this prison, they were the law. They could go to a random prisoner and torture them. Could anyone say anything?
Of course not!
Thousands of shining particles suddenly ca out of the demoness’ body, gathering into a silver necklace.
On the surface of the necklace, Dante’s image could be seen, and beneath it was the prediction that the demoness had talked about.
"Never try to kill him. Any attempt would result in a calamity upon you."
The demoness flinched upon rereading this. It’d be a lie if she said she wasn’t a bit scared.
After all, it was her first ti seeing such a prediction.
There were tis in which the prediction turned out to be wrong, but the demoness didn’t want to take the risk.
Her snake-like eyes sharpened imdiately as she sensed that the collar that Dante had been wearing for the past month started shaking.
"It’s happening. Prepare a new collar, quickly!" The demoness ordered instantly, ignoring the fact that the one she ordered had an equal position to hers.
The giant left imdiately. The next mont, a bunch of guards entered the cell with weapons and a small collar.
"You’re already here? I recomnd using more chains." Dante mocked them as they approached him.
Ting! Ting—BAM!
The collar rang for a split second before exploding.
At that exact mont, a giant charged through the explosion and replaced the collar with a new one instantly.
The first challenge was eliminated, and now it was ti for the next one.
What none of them noticed was a shadow that covered Dante’s face for a second.
Obviously... It was Greed’s mask.
