Chen Xiaoli was completely exasperated with her sister-in-law.
Feeling upset, she took it out directly on her husband, Xu Chongfeng.
When Xu Chongfeng got up and ca out of the room, he felt a wave of hostility wash over him. A shiver ran down his spine.
He instinctively looked at his wife, his tone cautious.
"Honey, what’s wrong?"
’If I did sothing wrong, just tell . Don’t look at like that, it’s unsettling.’
Chen Xiaoli scoffed. "What do you think? I was born to work. Now move, you’re in my way."
Chen Xiaoli gave Xu Chongfeng a shove and walked past him.
Xu Chongfeng glanced at the wide courtyard. It was spacious enough for eight or ten people to walk through at once.
As slow on the uptake as he was, he knew his wife was angry.
A goofy grin spread across the man’s face.
"Honey, let help you."
After saying that, he eagerly trotted into the kitchen carrying the firewood.
Now that there was no work to be done in the fields, the villagers usually ate only two als a day. They didn’t start making breakfast until past eight o’clock and wouldn’t eat until after nine. The second al was served around four or five in the afternoon, and everyone went to bed early once darkness fell.
This was how things were in the countryside, a way to conserve food.
Xu Chongfeng had not a shred of male chauvinism, sitting on a stool and stoking the fire for his wife.
Seeing her husband like this, Chen Xiaoli’s anger lted away.
"You goof."
Xu Chongfeng grinned goofily.
’I’m not a fool!’
He was just trying to make his wife happy.
His wife’s happiness was more important than anything.
「The Educated Youth Spot.」
They were all city folk and naturally weren’t used to two als a day, so they still ate three, though they were very simple.
Since coming to the village, they had co to better understand the importance of food.
If they didn’t eat sparingly now, they would go hungry later.
So, even though they had just received a good amount of grain from the Qiushou, most people were carefully rationing their als.
When Xu Wenwan arrived, the people at the Educated Youth Spot had just finished eating.
No one was surprised to see her. Many cast a knowing glance at her and Yun Hao before tactfully taking their leave.
Hu Ziqiang was Yun Hao’s best friend and also knew that the girl he had always liked was Xu Wenwan. He waggled his eyebrows for a mont, then greeted Xu Wenwan with a smile.
"Wen Wan, you’re here to see Yun Hao, right? You two talk."
After saying that, he was about to leave.
But to the side, Li Hongi sat bolt upright, not moving.
Hu Ziqiang rembered that Li Hongi had been kicked last night. She was probably still in pain and couldn’t move, so he kindly helped her up.
"Mr. Li, let walk you back!"
Li Hongi’s expression was one of outright refusal.
"No need, Mr. Hu. You can go first! I’ll leave in a little while."
She had wanted to spend more ti with Yun Hao, to let him see the wonderful person she was inside.
She never expected Xu Wenwan to show up out of the blue.
This woman was her love rival; she absolutely could not leave now.
"Hong i, are you just being bashful? That’s not the right way to think. We’re progressive comrades from the city; it’s only right that we help each other in tis of need."
Hu Ziqiang added his own explanation.
Then he very kindly pulled her up.
Li Hongi was furious. ’I don’t want to leave! I can’t give them a chance to be alone together!’
"Mr. Hu, I have sothing to do. Let go of ."
Hu Ziqiang was relentlessly enthusiastic. "What could you possibly have to do? Can’t you see Mr. Xu is here to see Yun Hao? We shouldn’t stay here and get in their way."
With that, he simply dragged her away.
Li Hongi was speechless.
’Is this man blind? Can’t he see I’m refusing?’
But her stomach, where she’d been kicked the day before, ached dully, and she couldn’t muster an ounce of strength.
She could only watch helplessly as her love rival got closer to Yun Hao, while she herself was dragged further and further away. Li Hongi felt her luck had been terrible recently, and tears welled up in her eyes.
