When Leng Yuan rushed ho, he saw the courtyard gate was locked from the inside and raised an eyebrow.
’Is my wife so angry she won’t even let in?’
After hesitating by the wall for a mont, Leng Yuan vaulted over it and went inside.
The move was practiced and swift.
Ever since they got married,
he had never used the main gate when he left for work.
He had built their house at the foot of a mountain, so it was essential for Gu Jiaojiao to lock the doors when she was ho alone.
Gu Jiaojiao was still asleep when he left every day, so he would lock the door for her and then vault over the wall to head to work.
When he returned in the evening, Gu Jiaojiao would always unlock the door for him right on ti, leaving it open for his arrival!
Since the door was still locked today, Leng Yuan couldn’t help but suspect his little wife was genuinely angry.
He vaulted into the yard. It was silent, with no sign of Gu Jiaojiao.
A wave of panic hit Leng Yuan. He quickly washed his hands and hurried into the house.
The room was dim. A lump was huddled under the blankets, with the woman’s small head peeking out. Her dark hair fanned out behind her, making the sliver of pale skin on her neck seem even more delicate.
Leng Yuan looked at the figure still asleep in bed and couldn’t help but chuckle.
The anxiety in his heart miraculously vanished the mont he saw Gu Jiaojiao.
The sound of Leng Yuan entering woke Gu Jiaojiao. She groggily opened her eyes, glanced at the color of the sky outside, and yawned.
"Are you about to leave for work?"
’I actually woke up pretty early today. Surprising that Leng Yuan hasn’t left yet.’
"I’m already ho from work." The corners of his mouth lifted into a slight smile as he looked at her languid form.
Gu Jiaojiao froze. She glanced out the window again, her face a mask of astonishnt as she confird that it was, in fact, nightti.
She had actually slept through the entire day.
Just then, her stomach let out a loud GROWL. Gu Jiaojiao shot Leng Yuan a resentful look.
"This is all your fault."
Knowing he was in the wrong, Leng Yuan gently rubbed the top of Gu Jiaojiao’s head. "I’ll go make dinner," he said softly. "You can get up and wash."
With that, he lit the kerosene lamp for Gu Jiaojiao before heading out.
The temperature had dropped quickly over the last couple of days, and it was getting dark much earlier.
Gu Jiaojiao hadn’t eaten all day and was starving. Forcing herself to ignore her aching body, she climbed out of bed, quickly washed up, and went to the kitchen.
In the kitchen, the man was busy preparing dinner.
Leng Yuan knew Gu Jiaojiao loved food made with white flour, so he purposefully used a generous amount to make handmade noodles.
He also fried two eggs in the pan and stir-fried a large portion of wild boar at.
He had sliced a lot of at—an entire platter’s worth—and set it on the table.
Gu Jiaojiao looked at the lavish dinner, a little puzzled.
"Is it a special occasion today?"
Gu Jiaojiao usually did the cooking, and she was always frugal. Leng Yuan was the sa; they typically made just enough for their al.
Today’s platter of at looked to be two or three pounds, and that was on top of the handmade noodles and eggs. It was a truly lavish al.
Without looking up, Leng Yuan served Gu Jiaojiao a bowl of noodles.
"It’s not a special occasion. I just saw how exhausted you were yesterday, so I wanted to make sothing to help you recover."
Gu Jiaojiao: ...
"Well, I suppose I should thank you then."
Leng Yuan replied just as politely.
"No need to thank . It’s my duty, after all."
After another mont of speechlessness, Gu Jiaojiao pouted. "Of course it’s your duty! Who do you think is to bla for being so exhausted?"
Leng Yuan was on his best behavior, quickly admitting his fault.
"My fault. I couldn’t control myself!"
Gu Jiaojiao: ...
’The nerve of him!’
"Don’t think an apology makes everything okay. And don’t even think I’m going to forgive you."
