Gu Jiaojiao had been crying so hard she couldn’t quite stop. With red-rimd eyes, she looked at Leng Yuan, then at Chen Jianshe.
Chen Jianshe calmly looked up at the sky, but internally, he was having a complete ltdown.

Gu Jiaojiao nodded.
Having gotten his wife’s approval, Leng Yuan walked up to Chen Jianshe, grabbed him by the collar, and dragged him outside.
Chen Jianshe was self-aware enough to know a beating was unavoidable, so he could only play the family card.

Gu Jiaojiao looked over and saw Chen Jianshe hobbling in behind him.
He had his head bowed, one hand covering his eye, looking utterly ridiculous.
Gu Jiaojiao let out a "PFFT" of laughter. The next mont, realizing it was inappropriate, she quickly suppressed her laughter and pretended nothing had happened.
Still, she hadn’t expected Leng Yuan to actually hit him and couldn’t help but ask, "You actually hit him?"
Leng Yuan glanced back at Chen Jianshe.
Chen Jianshe imdiately dropped his hand and spoke up for Leng Yuan. "Sister-in-law, Brother Leng didn’t hit ."
"Really, he didn’t."

It was because of Chen Jianshe’s loyalty that he was present in nearly every scene featuring Leng Yuan, which ended up giving him a much bigger role.

After giving instructions, she started to sort through her dicinal herbs, wrapping up the ones that could be used in soap into individual portions so they would be ready for the next ti she boiled a batch.
While the two n cleaned fish in the courtyard, they started discussing their affairs.
"Brother Leng, when should we go up into the mountains?"
