"One hundred yuan. That family is offering one hundred yuan."
Jin ifeng held up one finger, her voice filled with an excitent she couldn’t contain.
Chen Shulan’s jaw dropped in shock, and she quickly covered her mouth.
"That much?"
’A stinky little beggar is worth a hundred yuan?’
Jin ifeng nodded.
Lin Jiandong humd thoughtfully and looked at Chen Shulan.
"The two children have been with us for a few days now. Are their winter clothes ready? If we wait too long, the other villagers will start to gossip."
He couldn’t afford to lose his reputation.
He was, after all, the village’s resident good guy.
When Chen Shulan had returned from visiting her parents with her own children, she was blindsided by the news that they had adopted Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang. She wasn’t having any of it.
She got into a huge fight with Lin Jiandong.
It was only after Lin Jiandong explained the benefits to her that she finally agreed.
But she had refused to make them any padded winter clothes.
Now that there was a hundred yuan involved, she could grudgingly bring herself to make the clothes.
"Fine. I’ll get them done today. A couple of short-lived little debt collectors, the both of them."
"But when is that couple coming over?"
Jin ifeng had already set the ti.
"They’re coming tomorrow."
"When the ti cos, I’ll just tell everyone they’re our relatives and that Xiao Yang is going to stay with them for a while. After so ti passes, we’ll just say he doesn’t want to co back."
And so, the matter was settled.
Lin Jiandong reminded Chen Shulan again about making clothes for Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang.
Chen Shulan muttered a curse, but she did actually take out her needle and thread and get to work.
She used so of Daya’s old, outgrown clothes and stuffed them with straw. As long as no one could tell from the outside, it was fine. She had no intention of actually using real cotton for those two.
As for the clothes Gu Jiaojiao had given to Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang, they were now being worn by Daya and Tie Dan.
The fabric of those clothes had no patches, and the cotton inside was incredibly soft. You could tell they were still new just by looking at them!
’Letting Sweet Girl and Xiao Yang wear such nice things would be a total waste.’
As she worked on the clothes, she spoke up, "But that hundred yuan... I get half."
Lin Jiandong, naturally, had no objections.
No matter who it went to, it was all staying in the family.
Since Lin Jiandong was her only son, Jin ifeng treated Chen Shulan reasonably well. Usually, Chen Shulan would hand over a portion of their money and get to keep the rest.

The three of them headed up the mountain path, and Gu Jiaojiao ran into several people along the way.
"Why are so many people going up the mountain?"
Chen JianShe, always the lively one, heard Gu Jiaojiao’s question and answered without a second thought.
"The wild pheasants run slower in the winter. Plus, the mountain is bare, so they’re easier to spot. They’re much easier to catch in the winter."
"There’s no work to do in the fields anyway, so people are just idle. They co up the mountain for a look, and if they can catch a pheasant, they can have a better al."
Gu Jiaojiao nodded.
’That’s true.’
The mountains were more dangerous in the sumr; the risks were fewer in the winter.
People didn’t go too deep, just wandering around the outer parts. It was best if they ca across a wild pheasant or rabbit, but even if they didn’t, they could still catch a few sparrows to take back.
So might even find a hibernating snake and take it ho to steep in wine.
The three of them hadn’t been walking for long when Leng Yuan went ahead to scout the path, telling Chen JianShe to stay with Gu Jiaojiao in case she ran into any danger.
Gu Jiaojiao obediently nodded.
Chen JianShe puffed out his chest and promised, "Don’t worry, Brother Leng! I’ll definitely protect Sister-in-law. If there’s real danger, let it eat first!"
Gu Jiaojiao: "..."
Annoyed by Chen JianShe’s gloomy words, she turned her head away—only to see two familiar figures!
