Leng Yuan pressed his lips together.
All day, his wife had been looking at him with a gaze full of adoration.
It made his heart burn.
The road had been empty, and he’d wanted to hug his wife.
But with soone trailing behind them, Leng Yuan’s expression turned cold.
He turned to look back at Chen JianShe.
Chen JianShe scratched his head and flashed Leng Yuan a brilliant smile.
"Brother Leng, I’m right behind you!"
Leng Yuan: ...
For the first ti, he regretted taking on such a blockheaded follower. The guy had zero tact—not at all like Xiao Bin.
Chen JianShe was completely oblivious to his Brother Leng’s disdain.
His mind was completely filled with thoughts of Gu Jiaojiao’s spicy chicken. Just thinking about the taste made him want to walk faster and get back right away.
"Brother Leng, Sis, let’s hurry back!"
With that, he dashed ahead to lead the way.
Leng Yuan turned his head away, not wanting to acknowledge Chen JianShe at all.
’I don’t know this idiot!!!’
Gu Jiaojiao let out a soft laugh. She stealthily reached out, took Leng Yuan’s hand, and tickled his palm.
The man’s gaze gradually darkened.
Walking up ahead, Chen JianShe turned back and saw that Leng Yuan and Gu Jiaojiao hadn’t caught up. He couldn’t help but wave at them.
"Brother Leng, Sis, you two need to hurry up."
Gu Jiaojiao quickly let go and picked up her pace.
Leng Yuan took a deep breath and followed.
The three of them arrived ho not long after.
The villagers also returned to the village, carrying the large wild boar.
Feng Ergou was sauntering around the village chewing on a foxtail frond, looking for a chance to "run into" Xu Wenwan.
His face was covered in several scrapes.
He felt like crying just thinking about it.
Lately, it felt like he’d run afoul of so god of misfortune. He’d trip while walking, fall out of bed while sleeping, choke on his food, and even get things stuck in his teeth just from drinking water.
His luck was just rotten.
One ti, he was walking under the old locust tree at the village entrance when a bird dropping landed right on his forehead.
He hadn’t dared to leave his house for days.
Today, unable to resist his longing for Xu Wenwan, he had run out of his house.
He’d been loitering at the village chief’s gate for half the day, just waiting for Xu Wenwan to co out so they could have a "chance encounter."
Just as he was thinking about what he should say when he saw Xu Wenwan, he spotted a group of people running over, carrying a large wild boar.
His eyes instantly lit up.
"A wild boar! They’re butchering a wild boar!"
’Doesn’t that an there’ll be at to eat?’
Thinking of the taste of pork, his mouth nearly started watering.
In these tis, it was hard enough to get a full al, so his family certainly had no spare money to buy at.
Feng Ergou couldn’t even rember the last ti he’d eaten at.
With that in mind, he moved a little closer, wanting to see just how big the wild boar was.
He had just gotten close when the ropes on the wild boar the villagers were carrying sohow ca loose. The villagers jumped in fright and quickly reached out to grab the boar.
Unfortunately, they didn’t catch it.
Feng Ergou had even less of an idea what was happening.
He tripped on flat ground and tumbled right under the wild boar.
A four-hundred-pound wild boar landed right on top of him.
CRACK! A bone snapped.
"AHHH!"
Feng Ergou shrieked.
Seeing this, the villagers imdiately scrambled to lift the wild boar and move it aside.
"Ergou, are you okay?!"
Ergou’s eyes were red.
"Do you people even know how to carry a pig?! It broke my arm! You’re responsible, so hurry up and pay !"
’This was a disaster out of nowhere! They had to pay up!’
The n carrying the boar were speechless. They had been hauling pigs for years and nothing like this had ever happened.
Besides, what had just happened wasn’t even their fault.
Feng Ergou was the one who had gotten too close.
One of the villagers, who knew about Feng Ergou’s recent string of bad luck, couldn’t help but curl his lip.
"Ergou, you’ve got so nerve asking us for money. If you hadn’t co so close, the pig never would have fallen."
"We carried it all the way down the slope without any problems, but it falls as soon as we’re on flat ground. You’ve been tripping every ti you step outside lately, like you’re cursed or sothing. Don’t tell you’ve done sothing so shaful that even the heavens can’t stand to watch anymore!!"
