Gu Jiaojiao’s voice was firm, as if she were chanting a slogan.
Wu Cuizhi stared, completely dumbfounded.
She had been worried that Gu Jiaojiao would lose and refuse to pay up. But now, she was so stunned she didn’t know how to react. Perhaps she had never encountered soone so utterly shaless.
’She’s clearly useless when it cos to actual work, yet she’s shouting these slogans with more passion than a model worker.’
Although Wu Cuizhi hadn’t managed to get the upper hand, she wasn’t angry at the thought of getting her money today.
Brimming with energy, Gu Jiaojiao waited until she saw everyone with their heads down, focused on their work. Only then did she turn and pull her ’treasure’ out from behind a tree.
The device wasn’t light, and Leng Yuan had figured it would be a struggle for Gu Jiaojiao to carry it from ho. So, he had installed four wooden wheels on the bottom, allowing her to simply pull it along.
The village paths were mostly dirt roads, so Leng Yuan had carved treads into the wheels. The mont Gu Jiaojiao saw them, she was stunned.
’They looked just like the treads on an off-road vehicle’s tires! Even on the most rugged paths, the wheels would grip the earth tightly and keep the machine from tipping over.’
In that mont, Gu Jiaojiao was at a loss for words to describe the man.
’So people, perhaps, are just born Heaven’s favorites.’
But right now, as Gu Jiaojiao pulled her machine along, she walked with a confident swagger.
The crowd was once again left dumbfounded by Gu Jiaojiao’s actions.
Gossip was usually scarce in the village, but ever since Gu Jiaojiao’s arrival, there was sothing new every day. It used to be about her shalessly chasing after Yun Hao, and the won would ask each other daily, "What has Gu Jiaojiao done today?"
And Li Hongi was always "generous" enough to share the details with everyone, which was why they all knew so much about Gu Jiaojiao’s business.
Now, seeing the large contraption Gu Jiaojiao had brought out, they all gathered around in amazent. "Gu Zhiqing, what is that?"
Gu Jiaojiao pushed the device forward, a proud look on her face. "This," she announced, "is a corn sheller. It’s for removing the kernels from the cob. Let give you a demonstration."
With that, Gu Jiaojiao dropped an ear of corn into the machine and turned the handle. Just like that, it was done.
One cob done in two seconds.
"That fast?"
"A machine that shells corn? That’s incredible!"
The crowd was flabbergasted. They had never seen such a sophisticated device and were utterly fascinated. So of them were itching to give it a try.
Gu Jiaojiao wasn’t stingy and generously let them try it out.
The first to try it was Aunt Zhao. She dropped in a cob, turned the handle, and with a loud CLATTER, the corn kernels slid out of an opening on the right while the bare cob slid out from the front.
Aunt Zhao’s eyes went wide. She stared at the corn sheller as if it were a priceless treasure.
"It takes almost no effort, and it’s so quick! Working with this won’t be tiring at all."
Hearing this, everyone else clamored for a turn. Gu Jiaojiao was still generous, letting anyone try it—as long as they weren’t on bad terms with her.
As for those who *were* on bad terms with her, like Wu Cuizhi, they were definitely not allowed. She could only watch from the sidelines with envy.
After trying it, the villagers discovered that it not only saved ti but also a trendous amount of effort.
For people like them, who did manual labor year-round, shelling corn by hand all day would raise a thick layer of calluses. It was considered one of the "easier" jobs, but in truth, it wasn’t easy at all.
But with this machine, a full day’s work would, at most, leave your arms a little sore. It was a true labor-saver.
Seeing their astonished faces, Gu Jiaojiao stepped on a pedal at the bottom of the machine and said with a smile, "You can also control it with this foot pedal. If your arms get tired, you can switch to your feet."
’This was exactly why she admired Leng Yuan so much. The man was just too incredible. She had only provided a concept and a basic design, yet he had managed to refine it to this degree.’
’It was almost inhuman.’
