「The next morning.」
It was just after six o’clock.
At the Xu family’s ho.
Chen Xiumin opened Xu Wenwan’s bedroom door.
When Xu Wenwan saw her own mother walk in, she almost burst into tears.
"Mother, how could you be so heartless? Am I even your daughter? To think you’d treat this way... I..."
Hearing her daughter starting her theatrics again, Chen Xiumin imdiately turned as if to leave.
Xu Wenwan instantly panicked.
"Mother, don’t go! Please, don’t go."
Chen Xiumin stopped and scowled.
"Are you going out to use the toilet or not? If you’re not, I’m closing the door."
"I am."
Seeing Chen Xiumin’s cold expression and her complete disregard for her feelings, Xu Wenwan didn’t dare cry anymore. She carefully climbed out of bed and went to the toilet.
She had been holding it in all night. After finally using the toilet, a wave of relief washed over her.
Just as she was about to get up, the movent pulled at the wounds on her back, and the pain almost brought tears to her eyes.
"System, is there any way you can lessen this pain? Give another one of those pain relief pills."
’I can’t take it anymore. It’s too painful.’
’My mother is so ruthless. Am I even her biological daughter?’
Xu Wenwan was dying of regret. ’If I had known,’ she thought, ’I would have made the female lead an orphan to spare her from being tornted by this entire family.’

Village Chief Xu’s ho was one of the few in the village with high walls. They were over a ter tall, built from stone and mud, and very sturdy.
Hearing this, the System couldn’t help but remind her, "Host, due to the current circumstances, you need a letter of introduction to travel anywhere. You simply can’t leave."
Without a letter of introduction, you can’t buy a ticket for any form of transport, even if you have the money.
It was more than half a day’s drive from the County Town to the city. The only way Xu Wenwan could get there would be to walk.
With that one sentence from the System, the various escape plans just beginning to form in Xu Wenwan’s mind were instantly crushed.
’There’s no way for to leave this place.’
’Why is my life so hard!’
Outside, Chen Xiumin stomped her frozen feet and urged impatiently, "Wen Wan, are you done yet?"
’She’s taking forever,’ she thought. ’Don’t tell she’s constipated.’
Hearing her mother’s call, Xu Wenwan finally pulled up her pants and walked out of the outhouse.
Chen Xiumin led her back to the room, locked the door, and left.
Xu Wenwan spotted her soap pods. Her eyes lit up, and she rushed to the window to shout at Chen Xiumin outside.
"Mother, I’ll stay inside! Just bring the soap pods."
Chen Xiumin frowned through the window. "What do you want the soap pods for?"
They only had one bag of soap pods in total. Last ti, Xu Wenwan had already wasted a good portion of it. Chen Xiumin needed to save the rest for laundry. The pods weren’t valuable, but that was no excuse for Xu Wenwan to waste them.
Xu Wenwan decided to play hardball.
"Mother, if you don’t give them to , I’ll just bash my head against the wall and die right here!"
"Let’s see how guilty you feel then, forcing your own daughter to kill herself over a single bag of soap pods!"
Xu Wenwan had figured it out from their last couple of interactions. Her mother had absolutely no ti to listen to her nonsense. She had to state her demands upfront; if she saved them for later, she’d never get a chance to say them at all.
