Now reading: Chapter 64: You Can’t Be Better Off Than Me from The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man, a Romance novel by Dark Plum Tea.

Leng Yuan used to have a hard life. His private plot only yielded four or five types of vegetables, leaving him with nothing to eat in the winter.

Seeing Leng Yuan living in such misery was the only thing that brought Second Uncle Leng, Third Uncle Leng, and Grandma Leng a sense of satisfaction.

They were convinced Leng Yuan could never make a good life for himself.

To be blunt, they were harboring a deep-seated grudge.

They had seized Leng Yuan’s father’s house to exploit his labor and keep him under their thumb.

’A strong young man like him can work hard and earn a lot of work points for the family!’

But who would have thought that Leng Yuan would refuse to play along.

He imdiately demanded to formally split from the family, using the house as leverage.

Either they split the family, they could have the house, and he would move out.

Or, they don’t split, they move out, and everyone goes back to living their separate lives as before.

Even a fool knew to choose the first option.

And so, Leng Yuan was officially separated from the family.

Everyone in the village thought the family had driven Leng Yuan out.

But in reality, it was Leng Yuan who couldn’t stand his relatives.

Still, they were publicly saddled with a reputation for being unable to tolerate their own kin.

For the past two years, many villagers had given them dirty looks whenever they saw them.

This made Second Uncle Leng and Third Uncle Leng feel deeply wronged, and they tried to explain the situation more than once.

No one believed them.

They talked until they were blue in the face, but still, no one believed them!

People even started looking at them as if they were fools.

What a joke.

The villagers were smarter than that. Why would they believe a boy, not even eighteen, would rather move out on his own just to hand a perfectly good house over to his uncles?

’You wouldn’t be that stupid even if a donkey kicked you in the head.’

When the Leng Family saw that their explanations were useless, they finally just resigned themselves to their reputation.

But resignation didn’t stop them from using their status as elders to take advantage of Leng Yuan whenever they could.

That is, until Leng Yuan confronted them directly. Only then did they back off.

That was also why they hadn’t gone to make trouble after hearing Leng Yuan had bought Gu Jiaojiao a Plum Blossom watch.

They were just waiting for the day Leng Yuan couldn’t get by anymore and had to co begging for their help.

When that day ca, they would be sure to humiliate him thoroughly.

But they waited and waited, only to see him spending money on corn stalks.

Leng Zhigang wanted to snap, ’Got so much money you don’t know what to do with it?’

’He’s just throwing money away.’

But in the end, he didn’t dare to go over.

The villagers didn’t know the real story. They just assud Leng Zhigang didn’t want to be bothered with Leng Yuan.

"Zhigang, you’re his second uncle. You should step in and say sothing. That’s your own brother’s son. Are you really not going to get involved?"

Leng Zhigang’s face darkened. "I’m not getting involved! I don’t have a nephew like him! If you care so much, you go deal with him!"

The villager, taken aback by the sharp retort, muttered, "What’s so special about you? Fine, don’t get involved. With blood-sucking uncles like you, I’d say Leng Yuan was cursed for eight lifetis."

Leng Zhigang slamd down his carrying pole. "What did you say?"

But the villager wasn’t afraid of him. "What? You can do it, but you can’t stand to hear about it? That house was clearly Leng Yuan’s, but you lot took it and kicked him out. Aren’t you afraid your big brother’s ghost will co back to haunt you? You heartless bastards."

With that said, the villager turned and walked away.

Leng Zhigang was livid.

He had only co out to fetch two buckets of water. Who had he provoked to deserve being yelled at like that?

’It’s all because of that little bastard Leng Yuan! He’s going to be the death of !’

Anything involving Leng Yuan brought him nothing but bad luck.

With no outlet for his anger, Leng Zhigang furiously shouldered his two buckets of water to head back. But on the way, he tripped on a rock, and both buckets of water spilled.

Staring at his scraped palm and the water pooled on the ground, the big, burly man’s eyes turned red, and he felt an overwhelming urge to cry.

Leng Yuan was oblivious to all this. When he returned with the corn stalks, he saw Gu Jiaojiao’s eyes light up.

He looked at his wife with amusent.

"That happy?"

Gu Jiaojiao nodded. "This is all sugar! It’s second only to at."

’This is such a rare treasure, yet this man of mine doesn’t seem to think it’s a big deal at all.’
