’Anyway... today’s harvest was quite bountiful.’

The two of them didn’t linger any longer. Su Mo transford the red-robed guys they had knocked out into small lizards and collected them inside the storage ring.

With a final glance at the ruined battlefield, they turned and left.

---

anwhile.

Far away from the forest, in a secluded area hidden deep within the terrain, Wu Chaochang staggered to a stop.

His breathing was uneven, his clothes slightly dishevelled, and traces of blood could still be seen at the corners of his lips.

His expression was dark. Filled with fury. And a trace of fear.

"Shit!"

He clenched his fists tightly.

"Where the hell did those old fogies co from?!"

His voice was filled with frustration.

"Did the Sect Leader of the White Moon Sect get kicked in the head by a donkey?!"

"Why are monsters like that still just Outer Elders?!"

The more he thought about it, the more sothing felt off.

It didn’t make sense.

People of that level shouldn’t be in such lower positions. Unless there was so conspiracy.

There was sothing strange about it.

But no matter how much he thought about it, he couldn’t figure it out.

"L-Leader..."

A weak voice suddenly sounded nearby.

Wu Chaochang’s expression changed instantly.

He turned his head sharply at the person who suddenly appeared beside him.

"Number Two?!"

His eyes widened slightly.

"You managed to escape?!"

Without hesitation, he stepped forward and checked his deputy’s condition.

Number Two’s injuries were severe.

Though not fatal, it was clear that it would take ti to recover.

For once, Number Two’s usually expressionless face showed a trace of bitterness.

"I couldn’t save them. Sorry, Leader." His voice was low.

Wu Chaochang fell silent.

He understood it very well.

Even he had barely escaped.

Expecting Number Two—who was weaker than him—to save the others... was unrealistic. It was basically suicidal.

Still, understanding didn’t an acceptance.

A deep sense of unwillingness rose in his heart.

"...Damn it."

His fists tightened.

"I need to get stronger."

His voice was firm, filled with determination.

He reached into his storage ring and took out the teorite rock.

It had already cooled down.

Yet even now, it still emitted a faint, mysterious aura.

Wu Chaochang stared at it for a mont.

"Let’s go back to base," he said.

"We’ll recuperate first."

His grip tightened slightly.

"I hope this thing... can help break through and give greater power."

Number Two nodded firmly.

"It will work, Leader."

His tone carried a sense of confidence.

"After all... the divine mirror has never been wrong."

Wu Chaochang didn’t reply. But his eyes hardened.

With that, the two injured figures endured the pain in their bodies and quickly disappeared into the distance.

Rushing back toward their base to recover and prepare for the next confrontation.

***

Back in Jiangnan City, the atmosphere was far calr compared to the chaos that had unfolded in the forest.

Inside the villa, Leng Shuang leaned against the sofa, pressing her fingers lightly against her temple. A faint headache had been building ever since her conversation with Chu Jing ended.

Who would have thought things would turn out like that?

She closed her eyes briefly, recalling the scene.

Chu Jing’s expression, her tone, the way she spoke without hesitation—

It wasn’t a joke or so passing interest.

Her determination was real.

Leng Shuang let out a quiet breath.

’She’s really going to stick to now...’

That realisation alone was enough to give her a headache.

She had dealt with countless dangerous missions, assassinations, and life-threatening situations in the past, yet sohow... this felt far more troubleso.

Enemies were simple.

You either eliminated them or avoided them.

But soone like Chu Jing?

Leng Shuang didn’t even know where to begin.

She opened her eyes again and sat up slightly, forcing herself to push those thoughts aside.

’Forget it... one problem at a ti.’

Right now, she had sothing more important to focus on.

Her master’s task.

She had already spent most of the day investigating Jiangnan City. Nearly all the major areas had been checked, leaving only a handful of places untouched.

Logically speaking, there was no way Ye Chen and his group could have left the city so quickly without leaving any trace behind.

Which ant they were still here. Hiding sowhere.

’So many people can’t just disappear into thin air...’

Leng Shuang’s eyes narrowed slightly, a sharp glint flashing within them.

’There must be clues.’

Just as she was organising her thoughts—

Her phone rang.

She glanced at the screen.

The caller ID made her expression change instantly.

A faint smile appeared on her lips as she answered the call.

["Miss Leng."]

A neutral voice ca from the other side, completely indistinguishable from male or female.

Leng Shuang relaxed slightly.

"Don’t worry, Lian. It’s just here."

There was a brief pause.

Then, a cheerful, sweet female voice replaced the previous one.

["Hehe~ How have you been, Shuang?"]

["Didn’t you go to Longyan Country on a bounty mission?"]

["How did you end up becoming the CEO of a biotech company and suddenly start fighting for justice?"]

Leng Shuang’s eyes flashed slightly. "You’ve been keeping an eye on ." Her tone wasn’t accusatory, just asking plainly.

["I wasn’t actually~"] Qian Lian replied lightly. ["But when I received your ssage this morning, I got curious about what you’ve been up to lately."]

["So, you know... I just did a quick check."]

Leng Shuang raised an eyebrow. "You could’ve just asked ."

["Then where’s the fun in that?"] Qian Lian giggled. ["Half the excitent is in finding things out myself."]

Leng Shuang’s lips twitched slightly. "Fair enough."

She had expected nothing less from her.

If there was anyone in the world who could casually dig up information like this, it was Qian Lian.

"Since you had ti to investigate ," Leng Shuang continued, "can I assu you’ve already completed the task I gave you?"

["Of course!"] Qian Lian’s tone instantly turned proud. ["Who do you think I am? This genius lady found everything in less than twenty minutes."]
