The Su sisters had barely disappeared down the street when a low, predatory engine growled to a halt before the police station.

A black Ferrari.

The door swung open, and a man stepped out. He was tall and lean, about the sa age as Yang Zhen. He wore a fitted dark coat, impeccably tailored. Every line of his body spoke of discipline, yet his composure was visibly strained.

His sharp features were handso, but the excitent burning in his eyes twisted that handsoness into mania. All because sothing he had waited for far too long was finally within reach.

This was Gu Xuan, the young master of the Gu family.

He strode into the station without hesitation, his steps fast, barely controlled. The officer at the desk barely finished asking before Gu Xuan spoke, his voice tight with urgency.

"Sir—"

"I want to see Officer Song Jinyu!"

---

Song Jinyu’s brows knitted together the mont she heard the na Gu Xuan.

When Gu Xuan walked into her office, she studied him carefully. The excitent on his face hadn’t faded—but it wasn’t joy. She couldn’t quite grasp what that feeling was.

"What brings the Gu family to this station?" she asked coolly.

Gu Xuan didn’t sit. He remained standing, fists clenched at his sides.

"I want to et Ye Chen."

The air instantly changed.

Song Jinyu’s eyes narrowed. ’So the Gu family is connected too?’ For a split second, a possibility flashed through her mind— ’Is he here to protect Ye Chen? A hidden backer?’

Her voice hardened. "All the evidence points to Ye Chen. If you don’t want the Gu family dragged into this ss, don’t try to save him."

She paused, then added, her tone carrying genuine warning rather than hostility, "I’m saying this out of respect. My grandfather and your family’s old master were comrades."

For a heartbeat, Gu Xuan froze.

Then he laughed.

It wasn’t loud. It wasn’t amused.

It was a short, bitter chuckle that scraped the room like broken glass.

"Save him?" he repeated, lifting his head slowly.

The excitent in his eyes collapsed—replaced by naked hatred.

"Captain Song," Gu Xuan said, his voice dropping low and steady, "anyone in this world could be Ye Chen’s supporter... but never ."

His jaw tightened, veins faintly visible at his temples.

"There’s a blood feud between us."

Song Jinyu stiffened. "A blood feud?"

Gu Xuan’s composure cracked—just for a mont.

His fingers curled violently, nails digging into his palm. The image of a smiling girl flashed through his mind, followed by silence... and a hospital report soaked in ink and regret.

"He raped my girlfriend," he said. "She couldn’t live with it. He broke her... and forced her into suicide."

The room went dead silent.

Every word was calm, but the rage beneath them was like a suppressed explosion.

Song Jinyu inhaled sharply. "If sothing like that happened," she asked slowly, "why was there never any news?"

Gu Xuan didn’t answer imdiately.

His gaze drifted to the window, to a place far beyond the police station—far beyond the country itself.

"It happened abroad," he said at last.

Song Jinyu’s eyes narrowed slightly.

"The case was filed there," Gu Xuan continued, his voice low. "The local police registered it, but for months... There were no leads. Ye Chen vanished cleanly. I have been trying to trace him all this ti."

His throat tightened.

"To protect her reputation," he said after a pause, "the family suppressed the news. They didn’t want her na dragged through tabloids, or turned into gossip back ho."

The anger in his eyes surged again.

"So the matter never spread dostically. As far as this country was concerned... nothing had happened."

He fell silent.

For a mont, hesitation flickered across his face. These were things he had never intended to speak aloud here.

But then he rembered the reason he was standing in this room. And who was sitting across from him?

The Song family and the Gu family had stood side by side for generations. And more importantly, only by answering her could he get what he wanted.

A eting with that bastard.

Gu Xuan looked up at Song Jinyu, resolve hardening his features.

"I don’t want to talk about this," he said honestly. "But I trust your family."

Song Jinyu studied him in silence. Then asked quietly. "What do you know about Ye Chen?"

He took a breath, then looked straight at her.

"How about this?" he said. "Let et him once. And in exchange, I’ll tell you everything I know about Ye Chen."

"Is this your condition?" Her tone beca colder.

"No, it’s a request." Gu Xuan said and bowed his head.

Song Jinyu stared at him, genuine shock flickering across her face. She knows a little about Gu Xuan’s personality. An arrogant person like him, who never even bowed to his parents. Today, he lowered his head.

"Alright," she said slowly. "But rember this—if the information you give isn’t worth it..."

Her gaze hardened.

"I’ll let the old man deal with you."

Gu Xuan t her gaze without flinching. His voice was firm.

"You won’t be disappointed."

"That’s for the best," Song Jinyu pressed the intercom and gave a short instruction. "Take him to the holding area."

The door opened. Two officers stepped forward, and Gu Xuan followed them down the corridor without a word.

The police station was quiet at this hour. Only the muted echo of footsteps and the distant hum of fluorescent lights accompanied them. The air slled faintly of disinfectant and cold tal.

As they walked, Gu Xuan’s gaze lowered slightly.

This morning was no different from the past six months.

He had woken up the sa way—his heart pounding, his breathing uneven, his body stiff from another night without proper sleep. The mont his eyes closed, that dream returned.

That ugly winter and the blood-stained snow on the street.

Her body in his arms—cold, lifeless.

Whether it was the bite of winter or the absence of life itself, he could no longer tell. The sensation had long since blurred together.

But one thing he knew with absolute certainty.

When her breath faded, all the warmth in his world had vanished along with it.
