Chapter 116 : Even If It’s Awkward, I Still Have to Care About You
“Raven… assassin… maid… hmm…”
While pondering her little sches, Baifuli went to look for her “pet.” Following the clattering sounds coming from the dining hall, she soon spotted a towering mountain of stacked plates.
It was obvious the child had been truly starving. Fortunately, Baifuli was already used to it.
This was the side effect of having received large quantities of artificial enhancent drugs—she needed to consu enormous amounts of food just to maintain the body’s basic energy requirents.
Not exactly easy to raise, but once raised, definitely worth it.
Mia had just finished devouring another slice of cream cake at lightning speed when she suddenly sensed a familiar presence. Her little head poked out from beside the plate mountain.
In the next instant—whoosh—she shot forward.
The plate she had been holding slipped from her hands, spinning several tis in midair before landing neatly atop the plate mountain.
The servant responsible for attending to her wiped away sweat at the side and let out a long sigh of relief.
At last, this little ancestor had finally stopped eating.
The other kitchen staff were practically burnt out already—only a single relic-like remnant of their souls remained.
It was simply unbelievable.
Could a human stomach really be a bottomless pit?
And she still had the energy to run!
Baifuli was forced to step back several paces by the rushing embrace, nearly losing her balance. Smiling, she rubbed the head that was rubbing enthusiastically against her chest.
“Slow down,” she said gently. “Are you full?”
“…sniff sniff… full…”
“That’s good. I will need you to put in so effort later. You cannot do that on an empty stomach.”
“Your will is my command, Master!”
Seeing her pet’s unwavering loyalty, Baifuli continued soothing her outwardly—yet her thoughts had already drifted far away.
An assassin?
Quite skilled?
Hehe… after all, that adorable little sister of mine is very precious to .
Let see whether what they say is true…
Let see if you are truly worthy of her.
“Mia.”
“Here!”
Baifuli reached out and gently smoothed the slightly ssy hair beside Mia’s ear.
“Make preparations later. Tomorrow we will pay a visit to Morninglight Manor. And while we are there… you will help your Master test soone’s depth.”
“Should the target remain alive, or dead?”
“Uh… no need to kill this ti. Just observe first.” Baifuli narrowed her eyes, smiling with hidden sharpness. “If she is worthy of her reputation, she might beco a useful chess piece. If she isn’t…”
She did not finish the sentence. Instead, she lightly patted Mia’s shoulder.
Mia seed to understand completely and nodded firmly.
“Understood!”
“Mm. But before that, go wash yourself and wait on the bed. I said there would be five punishnts, rember?”
At those words, Mia froze. Her entire body went limp.
She wanted to put on a pitiful expression and ask if the number could be reduced—but when she saw Baifuli’s narrowed eyes and silent smile, she imdiately shrank back.
It clearly ant: Say one more word and I’ll add another.
With no choice left, she let out a mournful cry and ran off to prepare.
---
The city of Wosini always appeared calm and quiet.
But that only applied to the outer districts.
For the old city district, survival was a constant struggle regardless of the ti of day.
Early in the morning—when so people were already rushing off to work, so were setting up stalls at the morning market, and others were stumbling ho drunk after a night of revelry—a certain white-haired maid in Morninglight Manor had only just awakened.
Feeling the pressure on her body disappear, Eve opened her eyes and imdiately looked around.
Yet the soft figure that should have been lying on top of her was nowhere to be seen.
It seed today was destined not to be a good day.
They say the morning determines the whole day—but waking up without holding the little lady in her arms ant she could not feel that warmth and softness.
(Tragic.)
For Eve, that had already beco sothing of a necessity.
Now that it was suddenly gone, she felt strangely uncomfortable.
With a sigh, she put on her boots and casually brushed her hair back. The first thing she planned to do was find Vivian.
But before that…
She should wash up.
Incidentally, the bathroom on the second floor had originally been exclusively for Vivian’s use.
Now, although another cup and toothbrush had appeared on the rack, there was still only a single towel.
Not understanding the little intentions behind that arrangent, Eve stepped out—and happened to encounter a maid on duty.
The maid was wiping the railing with a cloth. Seeing the famous heroine of the rumors, she imdiately smiled.
“Oh, it’s Eve. Good morning! May God bless you with a wonderful day.”
Not very wonderful.
“You as well,” Eve replied calmly. Then she asked, “Where is Miss?”
“In the Study—”
Before the maid could finish speaking, Eve had already nodded and walked away without stopping.
Rather than being offended, the maid’s smile grew even wider.
This young-lady-and-maid pairing was truly delightful to ship.
---
A mont later, Eve arrived at the Study.
Sure enough, she saw Vivian sitting there, completely absorbed in reading.
Vivian did not even need to guess who it was. Anyone who entered without knocking could only be one person.
“You’re awake?”
“Mm…” Eve approached quietly and stood beside the high-backed chair. “You could have woken .”
“Tsk. It’s not like you had anything to do. I wanted to let you sleep in. Are you complaining about that?”
Eve did not answer.
Instead, she observed Vivian’s outfit for the day.
As usual, she wore a white shirt underneath, paired with a small ribbon tie. Because the weather was cooler, she had added a short suit jacket on top.
However, what Eve did not know was that the plaid skirt was not chosen purely for style.
Vivian had deliberately selected it to indulge Eve’s little preference—exposing her slender legs wrapped in mismatched black-and-white stockings.
Black and white like twin spirits of nace.
Eve silently gave the outfit a score of nine out of ten.
The remaining point was deducted because she had not been able to touch them yet.
Still, admiration was enough for now.
Touching could wait until next ti.
While Vivian was reading, Eve also had sothing to say.
“Miss, since there is nothing else to do, I would like to go out for a while.”
“Mm.”
Vivian’s indifferent response surprised Eve.
“You are not going to ask where I am going… or what I will do?”
“Pfft. If you want to go, then go. I wasn’t planning to ask at all, yet you’re the one volunteering the report first.” Vivian said casually, her lips curling with amusent.
In truth, Eve was predicting the future.
Despite Vivian’s current nonchalant attitude, Eve had a strong feeling about this.
Based on her understanding of Vivian—if she left without saying anything beforehand, Vivian would definitely get angry once she returned.
And the troubleso one dealing with that would still be herself.
“This Miss allows it. But since you brought it up, let’s at least go through the motions.”
“…I’m going to the clinic for a follow-up check.”
Vivian paused.
“For that special illness you ntioned? The one where your skin itches if it touches sunlight?”
Eve had not expected Vivian to bring it up herself. The excuse she had carefully prepared suddenly beca unnecessary.
She simply nodded.
“Then co back early. Be careful.”
“Thank you for your concern, Miss.”
Vivian let out a small, proud huff. Clearly, she was still not used to actively caring about others.
And seeing Eve about to leave just like that, she hurriedly called out—
“Co back!”
