"And here you go."
Huojin dimd the lights of his living room. The room was all set with the perfect atmosphere to spend the perfect evening. Evilly rubbing his palms, he smiled akin to a shady gangster as he jumped onto the couch beside her. The distance between their elbows was hardly an inch as his breath hitched.
"Are you ready, Song Jia? All your ti is mine. I will make it the most beautiful night you will ever have."
Jia grabbed a coke can and smacked his head with it. "Chill out."
"I cannot chill out when I think about what we are going to do next. I can hardly wait~" he hoarsely said, "I finally made you agree for tonight."
"I still don’t see the appeal of ani."
"That’s where I am gonna prove you wrong," he proudly smirked. "You have been missing out on so much fun that I pity you. But it ends today."
He grabbed the remote and switched on his big LCD TV screen. "Trust , you’re gonna beco a fan just like ."
"I will readily beco a fan if you bring a lot of cheese for ."
Huojin smiled and like magic appeared two tubs of cheese popcorn. "All yours."
Jia’s eyes shone golden as if he was a ssiah. She grabbed the two tubs for herself, satisfied. "This is what I call a good host."
With back to back binge watching of ani series which Huojin was more than happy to make her watch, they spent the evening with laughter and fun. Along the passing hours, she didn’t realize when she had already finished the two tubs of popcorn while watching the first two ani itself.
Huojin asked, his brow raised, "So do you find the appeal now?"
"Totally. It felt a little different at first," she curiously said, "But I got used to it. The male lead from Love You Forever was damn smart."
"That’s who my sister crushes on too. Huyi has a life-size poster of that character plastered on her bedroom’s wall," he laughed. "She says it’s extrely pleasant waking up to see a handso face."
"I see a valid point there. Who is your girl crush and don’t say Sherry because she has big boobs."
"I am a man. I am straight. I like boobs."
"You shallow n," she rolled her eyes.
"Hey don’t you shallow ! You are after the handso face too. It’s just that as a man and a woman, our priorities are different."
"I praised him because he is smart, not necessarily hot."
"Hah!" Huojin snorted and took a sip of the coke. "Nice try but I am not gonna be fooled. It’s definitely because of the face."
"So is Mingshen’s face a devilishly handso one but do you see flocking over him?"
He gasped sharply. "You praised him!? How? When? Why? Who are you? You are not Song Jia!"
"..."
She said, dumbfounded. "Why is it so difficult to digest? People have good qualities and bad qualities. I accept both of them. He has a good-looking face. As a doctor, he is extrely skilled and knowledgeable. No doubt about that. I am not so petty as to overlook it just because I loathe his narcissism. Where credit is due, it should be given."
"Hoooo~" Huojin gave a aningful smile. "Does that an he can beco your type if he tones down on his narcissism?"
She gave a blank look in return. "You see that happening in this life...or any life for that matter?"
"Just answer my question! Hypothetically."
She frowned thoughtfully. "I don’t know. Even if he changes for the better, I cannot imagine us together. It’s just..."
He rolled his eyes. "Don’t give the cliche response that your worlds are different."
"He literally wants to beco his research subject to dig into my chest," she dryly said. "His love for is not a romantic attraction."
"What if he gives up on that too?"
"Why are you so hung up on making him my type? The very thought makes shudder."
"I just think that you two will be a very interesting couple," he took another sip with a purposeful gaze. "How should I say this...You two differ but also complent each other at the sa ti very well."
That imdiately made her think of Ma Zhilan from the movie theater murder case. She had similar things to say. Thinking of her spending ti in jail made her somber.
She laid back, her stomach completely full with the popcorn and snacks and coke. "Complent or not, I just want this professional partnership with him to end soon. All for the sake of my ntal peace. Where is Huyi by the way?"
"Night out with her girl friends," he shrugged. "She was very understanding and insisted on going out tonight for my sake because she didn’t want to be the bone in the chicken."
"Like where?"
"Along the lines of when we would be rolling in the sheets."
Jia puked blood. "She thinks we like each other romantically?"
"She has a very creative imagination. We are buddies but she refuses to believe that."
"I don’t bla her. You talk in a very misleading way just like how you started out the evening. No wonder Huyi thinks that way."
"Hey! I am just very passionate about ani!" He said in his defense.
"What about being passionate in regards to finding a love interest? You keep talking about my type so now it’s your turn," she leaned in to listen with interest. "What kind of woman does Mo Huojin want to be with?"
"Big boobs."
"Start talking sense before I stitch your mouth shut for good."
He clicked his tongue. "You are no fun. Anyway, my type huh...?" He combed his fingers through his head, contemplating. "Never got the ti to think about it really. But...I guess I would like her to be like the cases we solve."
Her jaw dropped. "Violent and cruel?"
"Spark and adrenaline-inducing you idiot. You know the excitent that gushes in the system to track down a criminal? To reach to the bottom of the dark truth and minds? That woman should make feel sothing like that. Bold, fearless and who can keep the engine of my passion running. Just like the myriad of cases. Also, I think short-haired girls are cute so that will be an added wish co true~ Also big boobs."
"I should really stitch your mouth shut, shouldn’t I?"
"I would like my girl all plump and healthy."
Jia scoffed and then got up.
"Anyway, thanks for the great evening. I will watch the rest of your recomndations too. It’s late. I will take my leave."
"Let drop you."
She smiled. "I will be fine. Thanks. See you tomorrow."
He gave a thumbs up. "Good night."

I want to...give up...
Please...please, can I give up already?
On the sa night, a man tremblingly waited in front of a supermarket’s cash counter. His phone continuously rang and the more it did, the more his heart raced. He didn’t dare to see the caller’s na flashing on his phone.
I am tired...
I am very tired...
I don’t know what I am supposed to do.
I-I have got no training then how will I solve the issues?
It’s okay. It’s okay. It’s okay. It’s okay. It’s okay.
"Sir?"
It’s okay. It’s okay. It’s okay. Everything will be okay.
"Um, sir?" The attendant at the cash counter called out.
It’s okay. It’s okay. It’s okay.
With labored breathing, he continued chanting the mantra in his mind. Then he felt a palm on his shoulder as the man standing behind him in the queue said, "Sir, you are shivering."
