Xiyang put the handcuffs on Zou Haoran and pushed him forward the police car to be taken to the bureau. "Start walking."
Zou Haoran was staring down at his locked wrists with a pandemonium of unknown thoughts in his mind.
"Why did you kill Sir Kong?" Zhang Feiyue asked as he was being taken away. "Why did you want to fra for it? I don’t understand. Everything was well between you and Sir, right? A-and I never did anything to hurt you..."
He didn’t imdiately respond as he kept staring at the ground. His gaze then pierced through Zhang Feiyue as if he would eat him alive. "You don’t understand a single thing...You don’t understand anything! You were in my way of promotion and that old prick didn’t want to give the promotion I deserved. So I thought why not kill two birds with one stone?"
Zhang Feiyue’s eyes widened.
In his way of promotion?
"I was never in your way. To Sir Kong, my work and performance has always been..." his gaze lowered, "abysmal. I have ssed up so many tis that I wouldn’t even cross his mind for a promotion."
Especially after last night when I repeatedly ignored his calls. I don’t even want to imagine how furious he would have felt, he thought.
He sneered. "You are such a great actor, Feiyu. You act like a weak and scared man in front of your team. But behind our backs, you outperform."
He said incredulous. "What are you talking about? You and Hu Linglu have seen it for youselves how many tis Sir Kong have lashed out at . Th-there was nothing going behind your backs."
Huojin said, "It’s okay Zhang Feiyue. Zou Haoran will answer all the further questions and explain his actions to the court. Take him away, Xiyang."
Hu Linglu asked, "What will now happen to our team and the project?"
Zhang Feiyue was clueless himself. She pressed her head. "I am going back ho and taking a nap. This has been too much for . Wait, I can go, right?"
Huojin replied. "Yeah, you are free to go. But if required, we might call you and Hou Linglu to the bureau later."
"Yeah, that’s fine."
Huojin patted his back and smiled. "I am glad I was right about you."
"Y-you knew I wasn’t the killer?"
"That was after I got the evidence. But before that, I believed in you. I have co across all types of people. You really didn’t cut out to be as the killer for . That was my intuition and I am glad it proved to be right."
Zhang Feiyue felt a choke in his throat. "Thank you...Thank you very much."
"I was just doing my job. Also, you should focus on getting treatnt for your blank outs. You wouldn’t want sobody else to exploit you again in the future, right?"
He lightly chuckled. "I will. You and my wife are really similar."
He then said with a relieved smile he couldn’t have in a long ti. "I have decided to take a good break from office and spend so ti with my wife. I haven’t treated her well for the past months..." he looked guilty.
His eyes then widened with realization. "Luqi! I need to tell her about everything’s that happened."
He quickly checked his phone and noticed several of his wife’s missed calls. "Oh no. I think she already got the news. She must be so worried sick."
Huojin gave him a thumb’s up. "So call her now and give her the good news. You go ahead and talk to your wife. I will take my leave."
Zhang Feiyue gave a deep bow. "I sincerely appreciate your trust in ! Thank you so much!"
He grinned at him and went back towards the police car. He praised Bojing and Shilin. "You two did great with the investigation and catching the escaping culprit too."
Shilin stared at Bojing and smiled back at Huojin. "Senior Lu has all the credit for catching Zou Haoran. He didn’t have any chance."
"I-I just did what was right..." Bojing said, embarrassed.
Xiyang peeked from behind the car. "Sir, we are ready to go."
"Cool. Since the case is over, how about we celebrate-"
*CRASH*
A loud and screeching noise blasted at a distance that felt like the end of the world. Everybody stood frozen for a second. They slowly looked to their left and saw a car had violently crashed against another car. The first car overturned upside down twice. Ominous fus began to escape from both cars.
The pedestrians around imdiately ran for safety. The pleasant sunny day turned into a deadly series of cries and calls for help.
Huojin didn’t have to utter a single word. Leaving Xiyang and another officer at the police car, he along with Bojing and Shilin, dashed with mad speed towards the accident site. Shilin was already dialing the number for ergency services.
"Police! Give us way!"
They reached the cars and in one of them, a middle-aged man was sprawled back on his seat. He was bleeding from his temple and gasping for air as he was rapidly losing his consciousness.
"Bojing, can you help him till the ambulance arrives?"
"I am on it!"
He then rushed with Shilin to the second car where a woman collapsed on her side till the passenger seat. She was clearly the worst hit as compared to the man in the previous car. Blood spilled from her face to her neck, and her injuries seed deep and nacing. The glass was shattered all over the place inside the car.
"Let take her out," Shilin swiftly broke the driver’s side door and gently lifted her in his arms. He placed her on the ground very slowly and cautiously and swiftly took out his dical toolkit next.
"Lu...qi...?"
Huojin turned and saw Zhang Feiyue standing a few feet away. His eyes glazed over as he stared at the woman ahead with a vacant look.
"Zhang Feiyue, move away. It’s dangerous here!" He spoke in a louder voice amidst the noisy chaos with the sound of the ambulance’s siren added to it.
"Luqi..."
He took a step and faltered but continued despite the shock taking over his body.
"Zhang Feiyue, what are you doing? I told you to-"
"Luqi..." tears fell from his eyes.
Huojin finally heard the na as he ran closer to him. "Luqi?"
He followed his gaze and saw how he was blankly staring at the woman Shilin was treating. Suddenly, the realization hit him.
"Wait...is she your wife?"
Zhang Feiyue couldn’t speak as he felt the whole world crashing down on him. "Luqi...My wife Zhang Luqi."
Before Huojin could comfort him, the nurses and doctors stepped down from the ambulance van and helped Bojing and Shilin with the take over.
"He has hit his head. Might be bleeding in his brain. Left arm broken with heavy abrasions," Bojing clearly and crisply articulated the man’s current condition.
Shilin followed the sa. "The woman is injured on her face and neck. Heavy bleeding from her head. Glass shards cut on her neck and arm. There was a loss of pulse. CPR given."
"Lu-Luqi!" Zhang Feiyue madly ran towards the nurses carrying her on a stretcher.
Huojin closed his eyes in lant. He couldn’t imagine Zhang Feiyue’s state at this mont. His world was falling apart seeing his wife in a deadly accident right in front of him.
What must he be going through...
He opened his eyes and switched back to his work mode. There wasn’t ti to feel sad with such a grueso accident on his plate.
He had just half-turned when his gaze fell on a figure standing on the pedestrian walkway far across him. The figure stood straight and unmoved, looking right at him. In the middle of the white fus rising in the air and creating a thin barrier between them, Huojin thought he recognized a face he had seen before.
"Li Beiye?"
