The suddenness of the question took her aback. "I am sleeping fine, Uncle."
"No, you aren’t."
"But-"
"No."
If Yang Cheng said no, the answer was no. It was as simple as that.
Yang Bingqing looked concerned. "I am telling you. You young people are working too hard! I know cases can keep you busy but you cannot ignore your health like that. And now I am wondering if you are even eating properly," her eyes narrowed. "I am not sure if Mrs. Zhang is even getting the ti. After all, she has her own family. It can get difficult. So how about I help you out at tis?" She chirped.
Mingshen sneered. "That was so buttery move, Mom."
She threw a glare at him as if warning of the consequences.
Mingshen didn’t care and munched on cucumber this ti. He looked at Jia who was awkwardly trying to figure out the answer herself.
Swallowing down the salad, he smilingly whispered, "Maybe the answer lies in a particular thing kept upside down~"
His words reached her ears and her brow twitched hard.
"Oh my, my right side feels really hot for so reason. Did Spicy get hit by spice herself?" Mingshen eyed at his side with mischief.
She scowled.
Yang Cheng asked, "What did you whisper?"
Jia said, "It’s nothing, Uncle. As always, he only knows how to be a pain."
"As a doctor, I relieve pain," he chuckled.
"As a person, you only cause pain though."
Yang Cheng said nothing further other than to keep her sleep cycle in check. His wife was displeased.
I wanted you to nudge them in the right direction and here you!
But talking about health is important, so she forgave him. She pushed the plate of garlic bread she had specially prepared. "You should eat more of it. It’s delicious!"
She pushed all the dishes she prepared to Jia’s side, making Mingshen sneer. "There are two other people still having lunch, Mom."
"Oh really? Your presence is so weak that I cannot feel it at all," she jeered.
"Maybe what is really weak is your eyesight. When is your next appointnt with the ophthalmologist?"
Jia alternated her gaze between the three mbers of the family. Basically, the lunch ti passed with the mother-son throwing shades at each other and the father was solely occupied with the food on his plate as if this was just a day like any other. He didn’t look up from his plate even once.
By the ti the lunch ended, Jia’s stomach was stuffed. She was ready to leave but Yang Bingqing had other plans.
"Oh, oh! It’s your first ti in the villa, right? How about I show you around?"
Then I will waste the entire day in gossiping and talking nonsense and by then evening will co and then I will persuade her to have dinner with us! Perfect~
Jia smiled. "Thanks for the offer, Aunt. But maybe next ti. I have to leave."
"But aren’t you on a forced vacation anyway? You have lots of ti on your hands!" She whined.
Jia hesitated. "...No, really. I cannot stay."
Yang Bingqing pursed her lips in disappointnt. Her shoulders dropped. Jia felt extrely guilty but she couldn’t intrude any longer.
"So I will-"
"In that case, how about we watch a drama together?" Her eyes shone with a brilliant idea.
"Drama?"
"Yes! It’s ti for my favorite drama to air! Whispers of the heart~"
"Never heard of it."
"..."
Yang Bingqing clutched her chest. "H-How could you...not know of Whispers of the Heart?"
Her extre reaction reminded Jia of Huojin’s similar expression he had given when he learned how foreign ani was to her. Now she had a similar foreboding.
"You should definitely watch it with ! It’s the hottest sensation in entertainnt right now! Bai Caishen is so hot~"
*Ahem!*
Aunt, you have a husband...
"He is such an amazing actor. Sadly, this is the last season of this drama that has been on for five years now."
"Five years?" She was surprised. "That long?"
"Because there were so many elents to cover~ Bai Caishen is basically a villain in that drama. Sort of like an anti-hero and there are many layers to the story. Five years feels long, but it wasn’t like everyday. They ca up with one season every year with twenty episodes in each. And this is the fifth and the last one..." her eyes brimd. "Oh my gosh, you have to watch it! Co with !"
So Yang Bingqing dragged Jia all the way till Yang Cheng’s study room where he was peacefully enjoying his tea in the company of his dical books.
He lifted his eyebrow just once and went back to sipping on his tea. Yang Bingqing eagerly switched on the television and made Jia sit beside her. She furiously patted the seat beside her. "It’s starting, it’s starting!"
Jia threw her a speechless gaze.
Aunt, I think Uncle is trying to have so peaceful alone ti. Are you sure we should watch the drama here?
"Don’t worry about Cheng. He is fine~"
Jia really couldn’t tell from his unreadable gaze if he was truly fine or simply helpless before his wife’s whims.
Eventually, she did as was asked and supported the crutch against the couch.
"You will just fall in love with Bai Caishen~!"
The drama started with a quiet opening sequence and a man’s footsteps echoed in the background. Bai Caishen appeared in all black and Jia had to admit he expressed himself very well. It was a short opening sequence yet she clearly felt his presence and command beyond the cara.
"Isn’t he hot?" She squealed.
Jia glanced at Yang Cheng who had his head buried in his books. He looked the least bothered about his wife openly drooling at a man. There wasn’t even a hint of jealousy.
She looked back at her. "Yeah. He is handso."
As they watched, Yang Bingqing parallely gave her a short summary of the previous seasons so that Jia understood the context.
The storyline impressed Jia and every actor that ca on screen acted phenonally. But as Yang Bingqing rightly said, Bai Caishen was on another level.
His gaze made the most impact. He looked at the audience as if staring right through them. He was a villain through and through but from ti to ti, there would shine a flicker of a gentleness in his irises. It was very subtle but still there.
Yang Binging sniffled emotionally. "It’s his eyes that make my heart skip a beat everyti. It’s the sa for you, right?"
"Wrong."
Mingshen declared, handsoly leaning against the room’s entrance. An enchanting smile played on his lips.
"What makes Spicy’s heart skip a beat is yours truly~"
