Jia stared at Mingshen, dumbfounded. "What is this clicking sound about?"
Mingshen pursed his lips as if he was heavily wronged. "You didn’t let complete talking today Spicy and pushed in the fountain."
"That’s because you were saying nonsense things!" She threw daggers at him.
"The sa nonsense things that he was saying to last night~ How is it my fault?"
She said through gritted teeth. "How about by coming to the point a little quickly next ti? I feel like you just glossed over sothing super important!"
He shrugged, unaffected and yawned lazily.
Jia’s mouth twitched and she had the urge to throw him out of the balcony right now. She quickly asked Bai Caishen, "Can you tell again about the weird sound you heard?"
He smiled. "Sure. Honestly I don’t feel like it is super important or sothing. I just heard a tallic click sound from this side as I was working with Yufei. Right, Yufei?"
He paused and gave it a thought. Then he nodded. "It was just for a second now that I think about it. You had ntioned it too."
"Yup."
"But I cannot say anything more than that. I don’t know what caused it. I don’t even know if it’s relevant."
Jia asked, "Are you sure you heard it coming from Wan Guanting’s room?"
He tilted his head, his gaze thoughtful. "I am not sure. But it did feel as if the sound ca from sowhere very near."
Once again, Jia wasn’t sure if this piece of information was helpful or if it even ant anything.
Ke Yufei suddenly but quietly spoke, "How about we all get in my room? We are just crowding here unnecessarily."
"Yeah that’s a good idea," Jia coughed. She quickly locked Wan Guanting’s room and they all stepped in Ke Yufei’s room.
Mingshen took his regal seat on the big couch and smirked. "Yup this is comfortable."
Jia scowled. She grudgingly took a seat on the sa couch at a distance from him while the two sat on the bed opposite them. "I don’t know if the sound you say you heard is relevant to this case but let’s keep that aside for now. I want to ask what you know about Chow y and Wan Guanting’s relationship."
Mingshen looked at them with scrutiny, especially Bai Caishen. "Oh yes yes, please tell~ Sobody seed quite happy last night with a certain soone’s absence."
His eyes narrowed. "What are you insinuating, Dr. Yang?"
"I don’t insinuate anything. I say it straightforwardly that you have so beef with that woman."
For just a mont, Jia witnessed a chill residing in Bai Caishen’s eyes. She didn’t know what conversation they had but surely, it egged him just a bit. Ke Yufei had an impassive expression.
"So before we head into that woman and director’s relationship, let’s dig into yours and unearth why you might have a good reason to fra that woman~ I believe I would get to hear an interesting story. And I am bored anyway."
"I should tell you my story because you are bored?"
"Entertaining Yang Mingshen is always the top priority."
Ke Yufei’s lips twitched.
Jia threw him another glare warning him to not steer the conversation in so unnecessary direction.
Bai Caishen’s lips stretched into a thin line. "There is nothing much to say. She is my senior in this industry and we have worked together since this drama started. She is a good actress."
He sneered. "That doesn’t explain why you hate her."
"I don’t hate her."
"You can fool sobody else."
He stayed quiet.
Mingshen then curiously said, "I did see you getting all uncomfortable at the dinner evening. Seems like you don’t like seeing her with her boyfriend. Is this a love triangle~? Are hearts getting broken left and right?"
Can you not poke it that way! Jia inwardly lashed out.
"I don’t see Chow y that way," Bai Caishen said frigidly. "The problem was that she was seeing that way."
Jia blinked. "She...liked you?"
"I don’t want to talk about it," his jaw slightly clenched that felt like an ultimatum. "And I will clarify myself. I have nothing to do with Director Wan’s death nor I frad Chow y as your partner is suggesting."
She glanced at Ke Yufei and from what she could understand, he definitely knew sothing more. He had a bitter look at that evening too when the reporters crashed in for scoring scoops.
She then asked, "Do you know the reason why Wan Guanting would have given her the keycard to his room?"
Bai Caishen paused to think. "I was equally surprised to see that. They were never so close. It’s the opposite in fact. They had many issues between them."
"Like?"
"One of them was like Dr. Yang rightly said. The age and beauty treatnts that Wan Guanting was making her do. She wasn’t really in favor but she had no choice. Apart from that, there were so contract issues too."
"Contract?"
"...I don’t know so well," he looked away for a mont and said, "But she had once ntioned about it. It seems like there were so problems in her contract. But her entertainnt agency was doing nothing about it and Director Wan was sort of involved. That’s why I am opposing the takeover of my entertainnt agency."
Aunt Bingqing had said that, Jia thought.
His eyes narrowed. "It seems there is going to be so power shift which I am not so thrilled about. I can sense so uneasiness in the air."
"And Director Wan was involved?"
"I don’t know."
"Do you feel that Chow y could have taken his life because of these issues?"
Suddenly, a cold smile slipped out of nowhere. "Chow y. She can go to any lengths once she sets her mind on it."
Jia glanced at his fingers quietly clenching.
It feels like the Bai Caishen I t before was a stranger. He didn’t...seem so particularly against her before but now he does...
Jia touched her chin and asked, "Do you have any pictures from that night you celebrated in his room?"
He pointed at Ke Yufei. "He is the cinematographer. He always has his cara with him."
Ke Yufei threw him a frowned stare. "Don’t talk like I am so peeping tom."
His brow twitched. "I am not."
Ke Yufei showed Jia the pictures of that evening. "These are from the earlier dinner ti and the rest are from when we were at Director Wan’s room."
She checked the pictures and there were a wide range of shots taken. Chow y was seated at the couch with Dong Haoyu now and then at her side in so pictures. Rin generally hung around Wan Guanting’s side like Bai Caishen. Guo Juan was dancing while Zeng Shan mostly accompanied Xin Manchu and she knew why.
As she kept scrolling, one thing caught her attention that straightened her back while another observation was making her trying to catch onto sothing.
The first thing was Xin Manchu himself. He was mainly handling the drinks part and in one picture, she could see his palm partially covering the top of a particular glass.
She stared at another picture for a long ti. "I will be back."
She limped her way back into Wan Guanting’s room. She carefully stepped into the balcony and scrutinized the railing. At one point, she raised her brow and clicked a picture from her phone.
She went back to Yufei’s room and said as if her mind was fitting in the puzzle pieces. "I think I know what that clicking sound was."
