Mingshen frowned. "You know."

Jia glared at him. "I don’t know and that is why I am asking you. If I knew, then I wouldn’t have asked, right?"

He stared at her.

"What?"

"...You really don’t know?"

She folded her arms and just gave him a look which was enough of an answer.

He looked away and felt like an ’Oh Shit’ mont dawning upon him. It wasn’t sothing that he wanted her to realize.

"You are not very smart, you know?"

She was left dumbfounded. "Is there a course on mind reading I don’t know about but which I should definitely attend? I cannot understand you unless you use your words, Mingshen."

"I thought it was pretty obvious."

She smiled. "I am so sorry you have to be so specific for my sake. I caused you a lot of trouble, didn’t I?"

"Definitely."

"..."

She released a helpless sigh. "Can you please tell ? It is my humble request."

Mingshen scrunched his eyebrows in confusion. "It’s that thing you people do."

"What thing?"

"Saying warm and fuzzy stuff that usually makes puke."

Jia recalled his question from a minute ago and asked, "Saying thank you?"

He scoffed in disgust. "Yes, that one."

Jia was taken aback and failed to understand the context. "What is it about a thank you?"

"I have given you enough clues now."

"We have barely started talking."

"How did you beco a police officer? You don’t seem very bright. Did I misunderstand your intelligence?"

She was speechless. But in the back of her mind, she was wondering where he was coming from.

"...Do you want to say thank you?"

Mingshen casually shrugged as if it had nothing to do with him. "Not , but perhaps a person like ."

Her brows raised. "There is another one of you?"

"Who knows."

"Is this world going to end?"

He sneered. "If you don’t get your intelligence back, then definitely yes."

Jia’s lips parted slightly. "It’s definitely you. But why do you want to thank ?"

Mingshen frowned and turned. "We are done with the necklace set. Now ontowards your shoes."

Jia rushed in front of him and blocked his way. "We are not done talking."

"I am."

"I haven’t gotten any answers yet."

"That’s because your brain is lagging today. A lot. Should I do an MRI?" He smiled.

Jia was thinking about the recent events but nowhere did she particularly feel she did him any favor or helped him. "I don’t really recall any particular event-"

She thought back to the day outside the dical Association when Mingshen was exhibiting similar behavior.

But I just got out of custody that day...

Jia gave up. "I am sorry. I really don’t know."

His gaze darkened. "Well, this is the last clue! This is the last chance to redeem yourself so hold your breath."

Her brow twitched. "S-sure."

"You did a nice thing," Mingshen smirked.

"...And?"

"That’s all."

"..."

"Y-you know Mingshen," she tried hard to smile, "I am a cop. I want to believe and I hope that I am doing nice things for the people of our country. Nice things like catching criminals, giving justice to the innocent people who have suffered and trying my best for Beijing to be safe and peaceful. I also personally try to do nice things as a human being. A nice thing encompasses a lot of things. So..."

"So?"

"A little more hint would be nice."

"You are losing your ga, Spicy."

"You know, even a cri scene gives a lot of clues compared to you."

Mingshen gritted his teeth and apparently lost his patience with her. He took out his phone, dialed a number and shoved it into Jia’s hand. "Talk to your boyfriend!"

Saying that, Mingshen left in a huff.

Huh? What boyfriend?

Jia didn’t see any na on outgoing call but it was written - Spicy’s ok ok boyfriend.

"..."

Seriously, with what nas does he save numbers!

"Mingshen?"

"Huojin?" Jia was surprised.

"Jia? Hey, what’s up? Why are you calling from Mingshen’s phone?"

Her brow twitched. "Do you know that he has saved your number as Spicy’s ok ok boyfriend?"

"He thinks I am your boyfriend? Not a bad idea. But what the hell is ok ok? He didn’t need to add that."

"Is that your problem? You don’t mind about the misunderstanding?"

Huojin took a deep breath. "Jia. I had sothing I wanted to tell you for a long ti. I love you. Will you go out with ?"

"Shut up."

"You are so cruelly dismissing my confession? That’s heartless."

"Can you please tell the deal with Mingshen?"

He gasped. "He is confessing too? What about my heart?"

"I am going to puncture it soon enough if you don’t get to the point."

He chuckled. "How would I know? Isn’t he your buddy?"

"Apparently, this buddy doesn’t understand why he wants to thank her."

"Thank you? For what?"

"He told to ask you after he gave up hope on my intelligence. He has been acting strange ever since I got out of custody. Did sothing happen?"

"Ah..." Huojin understood.

"You know sothing."

"Did you not understand when he personally handed you back your badge?"

Jia furrowed her brows.

"Do you know that he practically stole it after he t you? He almost cost my job," he said bitterly.

"But why?"

"To thank you silly, what else? You protected him by confessing it to be your decision to go ahead with the surgery. It cost your badge and could have cost your job too - permanently, if the judge hadn’t dismissed it. I won’t get into the causal relationship about his actions and what happened later with his family. But what you did ant a lot to him. You understand, right? I do too. Our licenses are extrely important to us and despite seemingly being his enemy, you didn’t hesitate to protect him."

Jia was at a loss. "...I...I just did-"

"It’s a huge thing Jia because it is not easy to put our careers on the line, much less for a person you apparently hate. He values your sacrifice a lot. I saw him when he took your badge that day. He was determined as hell to get you out of that ssy case no matter what it took. You saved his license so personally returning your badge was probably his way of thanking you."

Huojin smiled. "It’s just his way of expressing his gratitude because it seems like the great Yang Mingshen is not good at atleast sothing. Saying a simple thank you."
