"T-That was my fault-"
Jia almost jumped on her feet to explain the situation when Mingshen grabbed her hand under the table and pulled her down.
He smiled. "I don’t fool around when it cos to Spicy~ She is too sexy for that."
Mulan stared at him with a squinted gaze as if piercing him with her laser-beam eyes to dig out his intentions. But she burst into laughter, much to Jia’s surprise.
"You are way too unpredictable, Yang Mingshen," she laughed. "Don’t worry. I am not judging you. It was just very entertaining to see everybody get into an uproar."
He shrugged.
Yang Bingqing huffed. "Isn’t that just his usual style of working? He causes an uproar wherever he goes. Don’t mind him dear, you sit down and join us for breakfast."
"Well, I won’t decline the offer~" she chuckled.
Jia still held a sense of panic in her eyes. The guilt of ruining Mingshen’s award ceremony overflowed in her again.
Mingshen stuffed a dim sum into her mouth and frowned. "You focus on eating."
"How are you doing, Miss. Song?" She looked closely. "You seem really tired. Is sothing the matter?"
"A-ah no...I..."
Yang Bingqing flared her nostrils. "It’s her demanding work that has been troubling my poor girl. She is just buried in too much work these days and look what happened? She collapsed! Hmph, she thinks that she lives alone so she can do whatever she wants but she is wrong! Now I won’t let Jia lift even a finger."
Jia’s lips parted as she stared at Yang Bingqing.
I made her lie...
She clasped her hands together, feeling a lump in her throat.
Mingshen stuffed another piece of dim sum into her mouth. "Like I said, just focus on eating."
"..."
Mulan shook her head. "That’s not done, Miss. Song. You should take good care of your health, especially when you live alone. Oh!"
She arched her brow. "Would you like to stay with for a few days? I am sure we will have a lot of fun~"
Before Jia could respond, Mingshen voiced his blatant disagreent. "No, thanks. She is living here."
"I am asking her, not you," she rolled her eyes.
He sneered. "Her and my opinions are the sa."
"That’s the trait of a toxic boyfriend."
"But you wanted to marry anyway?"
"Hmmm, maybe I am having second thoughts now," she touched her chin.
"I didn’t have any first thoughts towards you in the first place so I guess we are finally synchronizing in the right way."
"Wow, I never thought I would get to see Yang Mingshen’s slave version. Aunt, is Uncle also like that?"
"He’s not a wife slave at all! Even when I want him to be when I get sick. He feeds all that bitter dicine!" she complained.
Mulan frowned. "That’s not good, Uncle. Oh yes, I forgot. Mingshen and I t Mr. Williams Johnson at the ceremony."
Yang Cheng paused and looked up. "Is that so?"
"Yes," she chuckled. "He was really missing his forr students. He was very happy to et us only if...he hadn’t mistaken us as siblings," she coughed.
"Ah?" Yang Bingqing was confused. "Why would he mistake you two as siblings?"
"Because he thought Uncle Cheng is my Dad and Dad as Uncle Cheng," she shook her head. "He repeatedly addressed Mingshen as my Dad’s son so I beca his sister. That was actually funny."
"That wasn’t funny in the least," Mingshen grimaced. "He kept mistaking my last na. Xie doesn’t really suit my na."
"Hey!" Mulan glared. "Are you insulting my na?"
"I am just saying it doesn’t suit my na. Yang Mingshen sounds so op and powerful, isn’t it? Right, Spicy?" He looked at her expectantly.
"Ah..? I an both nas are nice..."
Mulan raised her brow again. "Heh. Now I would really like to marry you-oops I an marry you into my family. I think the na Xie Mingshen suits you more than Yang Mingshen. Right, Uncle? Uncle?"
Yang Cheng slowly placed his chopsticks beside his plate and pushed his chair back. "I am done."
"Huh? Cheng, you have barely eaten anything!"
"I am full. I will be in the study."
As he left, Mulan held an awkward gaze. "Did I say sothing wrong, Aunt...? Uncle seed angry..."
"Oh, no, no dear. It’s nothing like that. Sotis he gets grumpy, that’s all. You three continue eating. Let go and scold him," she huffed.
—
Yang Cheng sat in the silence of his room, resting his back against the chair. He stared into the vacant space, expressionless. He let the darkness sink in within him as he closed his eyes. A mont later, he gently opened his eyes and took out his phone, sending a ssage after a long contemplation.
’Your daughter and my son t Sir Williams at the ceremony.’
He got an instant reply.
’Oh really? That’s cool. Was he missing or dissing his forr students?’ He sent followed by a laughing emoji.
He slowly typed back. ’He confused Mingshen as Xie Zi Han’s son.’
This ti, the response wasn’t instantaneous.
’Did they figure out anything?’
’They shrugged it off as his confusion because of Alzheir’s.’
’Then we are good, aren’t we?’
Yang Cheng didn’t reply to that.
’What are you thinking?’ Ca the next ssage as if he could read his mind.
’Mingshen said that the Xie last na doesn’t suit him.’
’Why are you taking that brat so seriously? See, this is why I am against Mulan’s choice to marry Mingshen. Your son is such an idiot. He always was. He wants to chase after a na that I...have been running away from my whole life.’
The air strangely turned unsettling and both remained in that silence for a while. A ssage then chid.
’It doesn’t matter anymore. It’s history now. There is only one present that everybody knows and will always do. That you are Yang Cheng and I am Xie Zi Han. Everything else...is all hearsay.’
