Yang Cheng frowned. "No, we aren’t going to attend the ceremony."

His grudge ran deep.

"We have to. It’s important for our case Spicy and I are working on. Yes, I equally hate that family but the investigation has to go forward."

His brows knitted. Normally, he wouldn’t have minded Mingshen attending the ceremony on his own, he was free to do whatever he wanted. But because the humiliation from years ago concerned Yang Bingqing, he absolutely didn’t want his son to be attending either because he believed the Hou family didn’t deserve any kind of representation from the Yang family.

"Oh, I will be going too!"

The main subject of that humiliation, Yang Bingqing, hopped in with ease and declared her attendance with spirit. Though that bothered Yang Cheng even more.

"We aren’t going."

She was aware of his reasoning and pouted. Her arm wrapped around his and she acted cute. "I know you don’t like that family, but pretty please? Not everybody is a bad person there! Hou Anming is a sweetheart. His brothers are trash but who cares about them?" She laughed.

Jia coughed.

It’s one of those trash brothers whose engagent we would be attending.

Yang Cheng absolutely didn’t wish for his wife to be there. For once, Mingshen was a green lit choice but not her, not when he knew that Hou Jielun would be present too.

She drew sheepish circles on his arm. "I will be fine! Won’t my handso husband protect from all evil~?"

"But why do you want to attend?"

"Because the Zhuo family will be there too. Syaoran and Zihan are just as sweethearts as Anming. We will have a good get-together!" She chirped.

"You can separately have-"

"Pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaseeeeee?"

Yang Cheng stared at her. "...Okay."

"Yay!"

"But if there is any problem then we will leave imdiately," he added with a stern voice.

She was happy to oblige and kissed his cheek. "My husband is the best!"

Zhao Weizhe glanced at him. "Can we talk?"

Yang Bingqing chirped. "Sure!"

"Privately with your husband."

"Ooo, is it so boys’ secret? Fine, you can go."

Yang Cheng left with Zhao Weizhe and Jia took that chance to apologize. "I’m sorry, Aunt. I know why Uncle doesn’t want to go but...we forced him, didn’t we?"

She waved her hand casually. "Aish, you don’t have to worry about it dear. He will be fine."

Mingshen’s gaze alternated between the two. "What? What reason?"

"...You don’t know why Uncle stopped going to the Hou family?" Jia was taken aback.

He shrugged.

Yang Bingqing harrumphed. "He only cared about studying dicine and locked himself in his room doing wild experints!"

They gave him a gist of the incident and Mingshen’s lips ford an O.

Lihua’s jaw dropped, dumbfounded. "That’s horrible! And disgusting! How could he...ughh. I don’t have the words to...!"

Huojin scratched his chin. "Seems like his ntal faculties also took a hit with his physical problem."

"Mom doesn’t look that offended," Mingshen arched his brow.

She smiled. "What’s there to be offended about? A punch to his face would have set him straight. If not one, then maybe ten? Okay, a hundred?"

Jia choked.

Lihua nodded hard. "I agree! People like him should be locked far away from society!"

"Aiyaa, I love you so much dear!" She cried. "Thank God you have a sister or who would I have set up my idiot son with?" She sniffled.

"..."

"Aunt, I-I have so concerns about the last thing you said..."

Yang Bingqing promptly ignored those concerns and looked at Mingshen. "But there’s a little problem. The engagent day coincides with your great-grandfather’s death anniversary."

"Who cares? I never liked that old geezer anyway."

She glared. "He is your father’s father’s father, so you should show him so respect."

He yawned in response. "Yeah, sure."

Jia asked. "Oh. Is that also why..Uncle didn’t want to go to the engagent?"

"No, no, it’s definitely all Hou Jielun. I only pointed it out because we visit the graveyard every year and make so donations. That day would be hectic," she sighed.

Lihua asked curiously, "Evil doctor, you don’t like him?"

He shrugged. "He was old-school and a rigid man. He wasn’t the type to embrace change and he held Yang family’s reputation too close to his heart. He was never really too fond of Dad."

Jia’s eyes widened. "Why not? Uncle is so talented. What’s there to be disappointed about?"

"Apparently, my father wasn’t always a bright man. My great-grandfather obviously wanted Dad to beco a doctor, but dicine didn’t co to him naturally, I an the intellect part."

Lihua was dumbfounded. "He is already so intelligent! How much more was it expected of him?"

"I an, he used to score bad on his tests. It was almost certain at one point that he wouldn’t have much of a future as a doctor."

Jia imagined Yang Cheng in her mind.

Why do I feel that image doesn’t really...fit uncle?

"But Dad redeed himself when he went abroad to study in London. He poured his soul into dicine and improved drastically. Even he was dumbfounded by his grandson’s performance. Obviously, that old geezer took all the credit because he pushed him to beco the best. If Dad had been unsuccessful, that geezer would have certainly cooked him alive. He wasn’t going to take any other profession other than being a doctor for Dad. That career was set in stone for him."

Lihua sighed. "I feel bad for Uncle. I an..yes, he is a great doctor now but only because that was forced upon him. I wonder what he truly wanted to do..."

Yang Bingqing nodded. "Sotis, I wonder that too."

"And the fact that he never accepted Mom as his granddaughter-in-law made him a pain in the ass again," Mingshen was bored now.

"Really?" Jia was shocked.

"That’s in the past now, hehe~ He hated but I bulldozed my way in anyway~ You know, Cheng used to make out with quite noisily just to spite him."

"..."

"He already gave him such a hard ti when he was young, then he also frequently dictated how Cheng should act like a doctor, what patients he should and shouldn’t take, what his approach to dicine should be, all of which really pissed off Cheng.

He practically had no freedom even to lead his own career. On top of everything, he had problems with the woman his grandson had decided to marry too. So he...I enjoyed it a lot though~ That was a different side to see. Aiyaaa, I’m falling for Cheng all over again! Whatever. We got married in the end. All’s well that ends well!"
