Silence returned to the dark lab room devoid of any warmth and sign of vitality. The stench of Wang Lei’s blood rose higher and higher in the air. But the pungent sll didn’t bother Mingshen a bit as much as the words of a dead man did.
Mingshen traced his gaze from Wang Lei’s head to toe. The voice that threatened to take his head on the guillotine next had co sowhere from his body. That’s why it sounded so near as if he was standing right next to the person.
On the other side, Bojing stared hard at Wang Lei’s dead body, dumbfounded. Not only did he suddenly lay dead now but a mysterious voice from him had even dared to threaten Mingshen.
Wh-who is s-so-so gutsy to threaten Boss...?
Even the re thought made him nauseous. He covered his mouth, sniffling while his left hand accidentally brushed against the hair on Wang Lei’s neck. Bojing quickly withdrew but noticed sothing strange and blackish on his skin, hidden amidst his hair strands. He blinked and moved the hair strands aside for a better view, and a silent gasp broke out of his lips. "Boss!"
Mingshen saw Bojing signaling him to co to his side. He did and threw a glance at Wang Lei’s neck which Bojing pointed a finger to.
His eyes imdiately narrowed and he bent closer to read the black-inked letters imprinted on the skin like a tattoo - She.
"The woman seems to be really passionate in claiming her underling quite literally. I hate tattoos."
"Th-This feels creepy Boss..." his tearful voice shuddered.
The door opened and two more guards rushed in. "Boss. The two goons we captured with Wang Lei suddenly died-"
Their gazes fell on Wang Lei and their eyes widened. They exchanged stumped glances and one guard said, "He is also dead? Those two died just like him. We were interrogating them when they started bleeding from their mouths out of nowhere. We hadn’t used any physical force."
"And soone’s static voice just then echoed in the room. It said, ’Don’t interfere. Or the next dead body will be yours, Yang Mingshen.’"
The guards mirrored Bojing’s expression who were just as stupefied by the threat. They failed to understand whether to praise the person for their courage or mock them for their stupidity.
If one has threatened Yang Mingshen, they might as well put a bullet through their heads and peacefully end their lives, the guards thought.
Bojing asked, "Did you two n-notice a tattoo on their bodies?"
"Tattoo?" The guards blinked.
They read the tattoo on Wang Lei’s neck and one guard imdiately rushed out. A minute later he returned, nodding his head. "That sa tattoo is on their necks too. Sa place at the back of their necks."
Mingshen ordered. "Take all three of them to room C2. I got to do a lot of digging."
"Yes, Boss."
"Did those two utter any na?"
The second guard shook his head. "The thug I was interrogating didn’t say any na. But before he died, he did anxiously ntion a woman. Sothing like ’I cannot talk about her.’"
The first guard agreed. "Yes, Boss. The other thug was behaving similarly. ’She is dangerous. She will catch because she is everywhere.’ Sothing like that. Then he suddenly started coughing blood and died a few monts later."
"Take him away."
The guards took Wang Lei outside, and Bojing started pacing back and forth. He clasped his hands together, feeling a deep sense of an impending urgency.
Mingshen’s pristine white coat fluttered in the air as he sat back on his throne. "Why do you look so worried, Assistant Lu?"
He sniffled. "Sh-she must have a death wish t-to threaten you..."
"Are you feeling bad for her?"
Bojing retreated a step back. "It-it won’t be all flowery after you c-catch her...I have to always clean up after your m-ss..." he whispered to himself, "I d-don’t like blood and violence..."
"And yet you can beco the most violent person if triggered," Mingshen lazily chuckled.
He felt betrayed by his sarcasm. "I don’t do it pu-purposely...! Pe-pople never listen to ..." he dried his tears and focused back on the topic. "Boss, h-how did we hear the voice...? Is sobody k-keeping an eye on us? Th-That’s impossible though."
Spying on Mingshen’s state of the art lab was an unachievable feat.
"And they even died around the sa ti..." Bojing lowered his head, completely imrsed to figure out what had happened and how.
Mingshen brushed the tip of his thumb against the scalpel, amused. "It’s impossible to bug my lab. That’s why the only remaining option is to bug the goons themselves. Thoroughly comb their bodies to locate the bug. Even their clothes, watches, belts - whatever they are wearing on their skin. She was listening to us through them."
The smile on his lips curved upward till his eyes. "When she figured they would loosen their tongues, she killed them."
Bojing tilted his head, giving it a deep thought on the how. "Were Wang Lei and his buddies al-already poisoned when we caught them? But what kind of poison was that? Was it a slow poison? But how can they die at the sa ti?" At this point, he was talking more to himself rather than asking questions to Mingshen.
Mingshen stood on his feet, donning his dical gloves from the drawer. He chuckled, thriving in this challenge. "I think that will be very interesting to find out. Running a drug chain in my territory, killing her own underlings right before and threatening to back off in my own kingdom...This is starting to get really zesty! I would love to dig my scalpel through her."
Bojing shook his head. When Mingshen’s eyes glimred like that, it was never good news for anybody.
Mingshen whistled, stepping out of the room. "Hop out, Assistant Lu. We have to cut down three bodies. Lots of work to do~ Ah, it will be fun playing this cat and mouse ga~"
