Chapter 777: The Demon Lords’ Anomaly
Afterward, Shien and his entourage flew back to the Supreme Castle in Central City.
No one knew that Shien had already bee a Limit Level expert upon his return.
He didn’t tell anyone, except for Yulin and a few executives who knew where he had gone. Even those executives could only guess his current level.
Liel, Graty, and Beauty wanted to spar with him to test his strength, but Shien refused.
“The three-race meeting is ing soon. Stop thinking about fighting all the time and think about how to deal with that instead,” he said, dismissing the petitive executives.
Of course, while Liel didn’t press the matter, Graty and Beauty pestered Shien, trying to convince him to visit the Dragon Demon Territory with them.
However, Shien saw through their scheme, knowing that if he went, it would be difficult to leave, at least without his legs turning to jelly.
Therefore, he repeatedly refused their invitations, escaping their resentful glares.
Yulin, seeing Graty and Beauty pestering Shien, finally lost her patience, dragged the two dragon elders away, and fought them.
As a result, Yulin easily defeated both of them, making them drop the matter.
Shien immediately gave Yulin a thumbs-up.
“You’re amazing, my dragon,” he praised her profusely.
“Of course,” Yulin said, her nose in the air, clearly enjoying his praise. If she had a tail, it would be wagging. She looked quite cute, even making Lilith, upon seeing this, want to challenge Graty and Beauty to earn Shien’s praise.
Naturally, Shien and Yulin stopped her. If she fought, it wouldn’t be a challenge, but a massacre.
Thus, Shien’s days in the Demon Realm became relatively peaceful. He either played with Lilith and Yulin in the Supreme Castle or took someone out for a stroll, enjoying his carefree life.
The Demon Lords also remained in the Supreme Castle, seemingly having made a pact to stay until the three-race meeting began.
Shien would occasionally encounter one of them, sometimes Shafney, sometimes Lid and Millu, sometimes even Kamina. Especially when Airi wasn’t with him, sleeping in her room, he would always encounter one of the Demon Lords, who would then cling to him.
Therefore, whenever Shien was in the Supreme Castle, he was always acpanied by a Demon Lord.
This not only puzzled Shien, but also surprised many demons.
“What’s wrong with the Demon Lords?”
“Why are they always with that Hero?”
“The Dragon Demon is understandable, since they’re engaged…”
“Yeah…”
“But what about the others?”
The demons were puzzled, especially seeing Shafney and Kamina often following Shien around.
“Didn’t the Poison Demon dislike that Hero?”
“I heard she even attacked him when he arrived at the Supreme Castle.”
“Why are they always together now?”
“And… and the Succubus…!”
“Why is the Succubus always with a man?”
“It must be an illusion…”
Thus, Shien gradually became the target of scrutiny and even hostility among the demons.
The six Demon Lord sisters were the apex beings of the Demon Race, unattainable goddesses, admired and adored by countless demons, many of whom became their subordinates because of this admiration.
Now, seeing the Demon Lords constantly surrounding Shien, many demons were naturally displeased, especially their direct subordinates, the executives closest to them.
Shien had lost count of how many times Liel challenged him.
Hart even turned and left upon seeing him, not even bothering to greet him.
Even Gray, the former prince who volunteered to be Shafney’s guard and acpanied her to the Moon Demon Territory, looked at him strangely these days.
Shien knew he had bee a thorn in everyone’s side.
“But I’m innocent!” he wanted to cry out. He didn’t understand why these Demon Lords were always around him.
Airi being with him was natural, and he had even been allowed to sleep with her every night, their relationship progressing smoothly, practically in the honeymoon phase, always together.
Shafney appearing around him wasn’t strange either, considering their plicated relationship and her playful nature. It was understandable for her to keep an eye on him.
But Lid, Kamina, and Millu occasionally appearing and even clinging to him, this puzzled Shien.
“Once or twice would be fine, but they keep appearing, and once they appear, they refuse to leave. Is this normal…?”
Especially Kamina, who had been hostile towards him before, her tone sharp whenever they spoke, but for some reason, she also kept appearing around him, following him everywhere, as if afraid of losing him. This was truly unusual.
Shien had asked the Demon Lords about this, but they always changed the subject, giving various excuses, none of them convincing.
“Could it be that they’re secretly holding a grudge against me for seeing them naked that time and are planning to gang up on me?”
Shien became incredibly wary.
The Demon Lords, however, seemed oblivious, continuing to do their own things, always appearing around him.
Only Sara, the supreme being of the Demon Race, didn’t appear around him, still busy with her own affairs. However, she also seemed to be secretly preparing something, occasionally leaving the Supreme Castle, even Hartley not knowing her whereabouts. Shien remembered asking Hartley about this when he visited the Ice Woman Village, and she replied,
“Lady Sara has been busy recently, sometimes gathering information about God’s Canyon, sometimes searching for the mastermind behind Gorud’s assassination, and sometimes even claiming to be capturing some lost goddess. With the three-race meeting approaching, she’s been quite busy, and even I rarely see her anymore.”
Hartley had been tasked by Sara to look after the Ice Woman Clan members and ensure their safety. She naturally took this task seriously and had been staying in the Ice Woman Village, which was why Shien would visit whenever he passed by.
Incidentally, every time he came, a little girl from the Ice Woman Clan would secretly observe him from the shadows. Shien had considered talking to her, but she would always run away the moment he approached. After a while, he stopped trying.
“Let her watch if she wants to,” he thought. He felt like his love life was being too plicated, constantly troubled by women.
Thus, Shien’s reputation among the demons suffered. Mainly because there were too many outstanding women around him, constantly ing and going, naturally attracting jealousy.
Today was the same. He had only briefly left the Supreme Castle, and Shafney was already clinging to him. This woman had bee increasingly brazen recently, even deliberately leaning on him, acting intimately with him in public, making Shien the target of countless murderous glares. If not for his strength and the Holy Sword’s deterrence, which many demons still feared, he would have been challenged by countless people.
And after returning to the Supreme Castle, just as he finally managed to get rid of Shafney, he was approached by someone.
“It’s you?” Walking down the corridor back to his room, Shien saw someone blocking his path and raised an eyebrow.
The newer was incredibly handsome, like a perfect prince charming, elegant and attractive enough to make girls scream.
It was Gray.
He suddenly appeared and blocked Shien’s path.
Shien looked at him and noticed something strange. Although Gray was still handsome, his brow was furrowed, and his eyes, no longer as deep as before, seemed somewhat gloomy. His gaze towards Shien was also plex.
Shien’s raised eyebrow turned into a frown, and his eyes narrowed.
“Are you free?” Gray finally asked.
“What do you want?” Shien asked directly, not answering his question.
“Let’s talk,” Gray said calmly, not falling for his provocation.
“Alright,” Shien agreed casually.
Then, they left together.
After a while, a figure appeared silently, looking at Gray leading Shien away, a cold glint in their eyes.
Chapter 778: “She Shouldn’t Belong to Anyone.”
Moon Demon Territory, outskirts of Central City.
Led by Gray, Shien arrived at a desolate wilderness. The roars of monsters echoed through the area. Shien and Gray, however, walked on as if in an uninhabited land, ignoring the monsters and venturing deeper into the wilderness.
Seeing Gray continuing forward, Shien stopped.
“Alright, let’s stop here,” he said.
Gray immediately stopped and turned to face Shien.
Shien, looking at his back, asked directly, “What did you want to talk about?” Although phrased as a question, Shien had already guessed his intention.
Gray, seemingly aware of this, spoke without turning around.
“I said, I want to talk to you,” he said, his voice heavy.
“Then what does Your Highness want to talk about with me?” Shien asked casually.
“…You know,” Gray said after a moment of silence, “I abandoned everything and came here for one person.”
The implication was that the only thing he cared about was related to this person.
But Shien didn’t play along.
“Does that have anything to do with me?” he asked calmly.
“Nothing to do with you?” Gray finally turned around and stared at Shien, “Don’t pretend you don’t know, Hero Shien. You know I want to talk to you about Shafney.”
As expected, Gray sought him out because of Shafney.
Shien naturally guessed the reason.
“Because I’m too close to Shafney, so you came to warn me, is that it?” he asked sarcastically.
“That’s not what I meant,” Gray frowned, looking directly at Shien, “I just want to know what’s going on between you and Her Highness.”
This was a question that had been bothering Gray for half a month. He truly didn’t understand.
“Why did you suddenly bee so close to Her Highness? Just because you’re her brother-in-law?” Gray shook his head, “I can tell that’s not the main reason.”
“So?” Shien countered, “You want to learn from me, to know how to get closer to Shafney?”
“…I said, that’s not what I meant,” Gray’s voice wavered slightly.
Shien knew that this prince’s mental state was probably unstable.
But he still didn’t show any consideration for his feelings.
“Then what do you mean?” he asked bluntly, “Suddenly asking me to meet you and saying you want to talk about Shafney, if it’s not because of our relationship, then what is it?”
Shien could somewhat see through Gray’s current feelings.
“You’re envious, even jealous, that your efforts over twenty years are no match for a newer who’s only been in the Demon Realm for a month, and you’re unwilling to accept this, right?”
Shien tore away Gray’s pretense.
Gray was speechless, his increasingly clenched fist the only sign of his inner turmoil.
Shien looked at him with growing sympathy.
“Your Highness, it’s time for you to face reality,” he said mercilessly.
“You and Shafney have no future.”
These simple words pierced Gray’s heart. His breathing grew heavy, and magic power surged from him, making the air hum slightly.
Shien, as if not noticing, continued,
“For over twenty years, you haven’t even entered her sight, and she has no interest in you, or most people in this world. Do you think you can truly win her heart?”
He laid bare the cruel reality, the truth Gray was most unwilling to face. He wasn’t stupid and knew that even if he spent another twenty, thirty, forty years, even his entire life, he couldn’t make her look at him. Shafney’s indifference and coldness towards those she wasn’t interested in were well-known. Countless heroes and champions throughout history were proof. They gave everything for her, but who truly succeeded? Not to mention winning her heart, even getting her to look at them was a luxury. He was just one insignificant person among countless others. His so-called devotion wouldn’t bring him anything.
Of course, although this was painful, it didn’t make Gray despair. Since no one could have her, he would simply dedicate his life to this unrequited love. He no longer hoped for her favor, only wanting to stay close to her, to see her and hear her voice. He didn’t dare ask for more. He had already accepted this fate.
However, Shien’s arrival disrupted his peace. Seeing this newer, a Hero, being closer and closer to Shafney in less than a month, their interactions increasingly intimate, Gray’s mental state became unbalanced. If no one could have her, he could accept his loss. But if someone succeeded, he couldn’t remain calm. No one wanted to see the woman they loved in another man’s arms, especially when that woman was the most beautiful in the three realms, a captivating demoness who made countless heroes and champions bow before her. If such a person was obtained by another, even an unrelated man would feel envious and jealous, let alone those already infatuated with her.
Gray, unable to bear it any longer, finally confronted Shien.
His intention was simple.
“…I know that someone like me isn’t worthy of Her Highness,” he said in a deep voice, “But you already have Ancil’s daughter, the Dragon Demon, and I even heard you have other women. Aren’t you satisfied yet?”
Gray wanted to tell Shien that he should be content and not touch someone he shouldn’t.
However…
“So you’re warning me?” Shien asked, his tone even more sarcastic, “Don’t you think you’re overstepping your boundaries, Your Highness?”
Honestly, at this moment, Shien truly looked down on Gray. This man abandoned his home, his family, even his country, for a woman he couldn’t have, ing to this unfamiliar Demon Realm and willingly staying here for over twenty years, just for a few glances at her. This, to put it nicely, was devotion, but to put it bluntly, it was pathetic simping. If he could win her heart, it would be a different story, but to abandon everything just for a few glances, his actions were truly pathetic.
Shien wouldn’t judge him, after all, it was his own life, and he even gave Gray some face, treating him like an elder.
But for him to try and control his life, Shien wouldn’t be polite.
“I’m giving you some face because you’re Lucy’s elder, but you’ve already abandoned your country and your family. I don’t have to give you any face, do you understand?”
Shien’s words were blunt.
“What do you mean?” Gray’s expression turned incredibly grim.
“It’s simple,” Shien said directly, “We have no connection. I won’t interfere in your matters, and I hope you won’t interfere in mine.”
Saying this, he turned to leave.
“Wait!” Gray flashed behind Shien and grabbed his left shoulder.
“Let go!” Shien shrugged him off with a jolt of his shoulder.
But Gray didn’t retreat, instead grabbing his right shoulder with even greater force.
And this grasp made a chill run down his spine.
Because…
“I’ll say it again, let go,” Shien said, not shaking him off this time, his tone calm yet chilling.
Gray felt the urge to let go, but he resisted. Having been pushed this far, he wouldn’t back down so easily.
“I’ll also say it again,” he said in a deep voice, “That person shouldn’t belong to anyone, but should remain on her pedestal, admired by all, untouchable, not to be pulled down from her high place.”
“Really?” Shien asked calmly, “Pulling her down from her pedestal disappoints you so much?”
“No,” Gray’s tone also calmed down, “It’s just that if she’s pulled down, then those of us who couldn’t reach her before might have a chance.”
As long as she remained on her pedestal, untouchable, everything was fine.
But if the goddess descended, then everyone could reach her.
And what would happen then was obvious.
Everyone would fight over her like mad.
Gray didn’t want to fight over her. He just wanted to put her back on her pedestal, let her remain high above, forever unattainable.
“She shouldn’t belong to anyone,” he said, “Including you.”
Hearing this, Shien smiled, a mocking smile.
“Self-righteous simp,” he said, a terrifying magic power erupting from him.
“Get lost!”
