When Imperial Doctor Li arrived, she saw Prince ng sitting by the window drinking wine.
It was already mid-December, with only half a month left until the New Year.
As the year-end approached, the weather beca colder. Several braziers were placed indoors for warmth, but because the windows and doors were open, the indoor temperature remained low.
Prince ng held a wine pot in her hand, and it was unclear how long she had been standing by the window. Judging by her complexion, it seed her face was almost frozen blue.
She gazed at the snowy scene outside, her expression somber. At that mont, she seed to be standing atop the clouds; even though her body was clearly nearby, her mind felt very distant, as if she were imrsed in a realm no one had ever reached.
After Imperial Doctor Li entered, she was montarily dazed, looking at Prince ng, a bit unable to regain her composure.
Finally, she sighed silently.
"Little Liu," because Prince ng, forrly the Sixth Princess, was ranked sixth in the Imperial Court, in private monts, Imperial Doctor Li, like an elder, affectionately called her Little Liu instead of the formal title of Prince.
"Co, try this," Imperial Doctor Li offered a bag of dry candies like a treasure. She took one out from the bag; the candy was cut into squares, perfectly suitable for putting in the mouth.
Prince ng ca back to her senses, "Aunt Li."
"Hey!" Imperial Doctor Li responded happily, and then fed a piece of the candy to Prince ng.
This candy wasn’t the hard kind but soft and chewy. The more you chewed, the sweeter it beca.
A rich peanut flavor paired with dried sour plum, sweet and sour, deliciously sweet yet not cloying, leaving a fragrant aftertaste that stimulated the taste buds.
"This candy is good,"
In private, Prince ng was not the masked, flamboyant dandy as she was in public, but rather calm, elegant, and naturally noble, though with so traces of solitude and sorrow in her eyes.
Imperial Doctor Li smiled and stuffed the bag of candies into Prince ng’s hand, "If you want to eat, take so anyti. If it’s not enough, I can make more for you."
Prince ng was surprised, "Did you make this yourself?"
Worried that Prince ng would be resistant upon knowing the candy had calming herbs added, Imperial Doctor Li kept the soothing effect of the candies a secret for now: "Yes, it’s a recipe Senior Master Huixin helped co up with, but don’t worry, I checked it thoroughly myself, and the recipe is non-toxic. I didn’t involve anyone else in making the candy, so it’s safe to eat."
Prince ng chuckled, but when Imperial Doctor Li ntioned "Senior Master Huixin," she recalled the peculiar behavior on her birthday.
She seed to...
"Aunt Li, where did this ’Senior Master Huixin’ co from?" In recent days, though inactive on the surface, she had secretly had her confidants investigate Huixin. Unfortunately, all they found was that she had arrived in the Capital not long ago. As for where she had been before, what she had done, who her family was, and most importantly, whom she served... these aspects remained unknown.
However, her people did uncover a few clues. This person seed to have co from the east, yet she spoke with a North Land accent similar to that of the Capital.
Imperial Doctor Li imdiately beca vigilant, "Why, do you find her suspicious?"
Though she appeared close to "Huixin," when it ca to truly considering who was close or distant in her heart, Prince ng always ca first.
Prince ng mused, "She is a bit suspicious, but... let’s observe for now. At present, she doesn’t seem to have any ill intentions towards . Instead..."
