The night wind gently swept through, and though it was late spring, it was still a bit chilly. After being in the night wind for so long, his body suddenly shivered; he shrugged his shoulders and dragged his feet towards an abandoned cabin deep in the Baiyang Forest.
He had been staying here for the past few days.
The cabin in the forest had long been deserted, practically just four bare walls, barely enough to keep out the wind and rain.
Suddenly, a clap of thunder rumbled in the sky, prompting Bai Xian to quicken his pace. He had no desire to beco a drenched rat, so he sprinted towards the simple little cabin ahead.
He managed to get inside the dim cabin just before the first drops of rain fell.
Removing his bamboo hat, he couldn’t see clearly in the dimly lit space, as it was pitch black. He felt his way along the wall, rembering there was a wobbly table up ahead. He had bought so candles in town yesterday...
Finally reaching the table, he pressed both hands on it and fumbled around until he found a Flint, with which he lit a candle.
The soft, ambiguous glow instantly illuminated the inside of the cabin. Bai Xian was about to undress, intending to rest, but after untying his belt, he inadvertently caught a glimpse of a woman sitting serenely on the bed from the corner of his eye.
Startled, he quickly re-tied his belt!
"What are you doing here!!?" his eyes widened in shock.
The woman let out a disdainful laugh, "And why shouldn’t I be here? You’re so heartless, burning bridges after crossing them. I was the one who provided you with intelligence, yet you went off and slept with that Eighth Princess? Bai Xian, oh Bai Xian, do you have any idea how angry I am right now..."
Bai Xian’s face darkened: "I am, after all, a prostitute, an impure being." He curled his lips into a mocking smile. "An actor is heartless, a whore is faithless; who are you putting on this act for? You and I are rely using each other!"
The woman’s expression flickered, "Do you hate ?" She blinked, seemingly amazed, finding Bai Xian’s deanor utterly intriguing.
Bai Xian furrowed his brow, remained silent for a mont, then slowly spoke. "Perhaps... After all you made her suffer quite a bit."
The woman pressed her lips together; when Bai Xian ntioned ’her’, a surge of extre displeasure suddenly welled up inside her! This displeasure was even stronger than when she found out Bai Xian slept with that Eighth Princess!
He was a prostitute, and over the years who knew how many won he had been with, rely flesh and bones. So, even though she was angry, it was slight, because she knew he harbored no good intentions towards the Eighth Princess, and sleeping with her was just a ans to get closer to her.
He had no feelings for the Eighth Princess at all!
But the ’her’ he spoke of was different.
For ’her’, even if it ant his imdiate death, he would be willing!!
She felt blocked and suffocated inside, terribly uncomfortable, making her want to go crazy, to scream. But eventually, all these negative emotions were reduced to a single, flippant remark: "Yes, you’re right, I did make her suffer... But you should know, the person who suffered because of back then, was not her."
The woman’s lips curled into a nearly malicious smile: "Bai Xian, the one you cherish is a monster. The one you love is not human, not human, indeed! The one you’re in love with is not Dong Baowei, not the renowned War God Marshal, but a monster from who knows where, usurping the nest!"
