Now reading: Chapter 36: Weakness from The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!, a Historical novel by Chu Qianmo.

At this mont, Qiao Xi felt as if her steps were as heavy as lead. Her shoulders were numb, and her whole body felt like it was carrying a load of eighty water buckets, weak and powerless, with every step weighing a thousand pounds.

However, she still had to pull herself together, lifted the carriage curtain with difficulty, and said to the outside, "Miss, your two new treasures were not killed, but they were fed poison and are very weak, almost fainting now."

Wang Wan’er was first overjoyed, then shocked. She lifted the curtain to see, and there was Huangfu Jingchen leaning against the carriage wall with his eyes tightly closed. Xia Wenjin was by the window, his eyes barely open, blinking at Wang Wan’er, looking as if he wanted to speak but was too weak to do so.

This electrified Wang Wan’er, her body went weak, bubbling over with happiness, and she quickly exclaid, "Hurry, soone, help them inside! Quickly call a doctor, call a doctor!"

Imdiately, a group of maidservants rushed over from the mansion’s entrance, helping Xia Wenjin and Huangfu Jingchen down.

This was the side door of the Governor Mansion.

Governor Wang did not appear, but there were plenty of servants around. Under Wang Wan’er’s instructions, the servants helped the two to a delicate little courtyard, which was quite secluded. The two were settled in different rooms, and soon, doctors ca to check their pulses and provide treatnt.

Wang Wan’er looked at her two exquisite new treasures, who she hadn’t even tasted yet, lying weakly in bed, pale-faced and feeble, and her heart was gripped with anxiety.

Those who escaped with her were nothing compared to these two.

Not to ntion that these two had diverted the assailants so she could escape safely. Just their appearance and deanor made Wang Wan’er drool.

However, although the two young n were awake and seed out of mortal danger, they were too weak to speak.

A dozen doctors had examined them, and their pulses were extrely weak, sotis even absent, indicating indeed a state of weakness.

According to Qiao Xi, they were fed poison by the assailants.

Poisoning posed a problem, and even though the doctors were forced to prescribe a pile of dicine, none of it seed to work.

Wang Wan’er was anxious and restless, but looking at how weak they were, what could she do?

Even if she wanted to force herself on them, they needed to have the strength first!

In the end, Wang Wan’er ordered people to take good care of them, letting them properly recover.

With so many doctors and so many prescriptions, they would surely be cured. It wouldn’t be too late to savor them once they recovered!

Wang Wan’er was so enamored by the two’s appearances that even doing nothing but looking at their faces was a pleasure. Hence, she almost stayed in this little courtyard all day.

The "weak" Huangfu Jingchen and his companion, although their eyes were closed as if asleep, didn’t bother Wang Wan’er. After all, these two young n were pleasing to the eye even in their slumber.

On Huangfu Jingchen’s side, the young man’s face was like a polished jade, with brows sharp as if sculpted, a straight nose, well-defined features, and contours that seed ticulously painted by a master craftsman, leaving no room for flaw.

Wang Wan’er found it hard to contain her joy looking at such a handso face, repeatedly wanting to reach out and touch him, even if just to indulge herself first. Yet, even with his eyes closed, the youth exuded an air of aloof nobility, allowing only admiration from a distance, not desecration.

anwhile, Xia Wenjin was also handso but in a different way. His brows were like budding willows, and his long lashes, like small fans, covered his eyes. His skin was like exquisite porcelain with a faint glow. His neck was alabaster, lips vivid like blossoms, with a unique charm, captivating in beauty that was hard to look away from. Even won rarely possessed such loveliness!

Wang Wan’er was practically beside herself with happiness. That day she was simply strolling down the street and happened to encounter two exquisite young n from out of town.

She visited during the day and ca again at night, staying by their bedside, not making a move, but "watching" very intently.

After watching for another entire day, their "poisoning" showed no improvent, and Wang Wan’er’s patience, too, waned. The more she watched, the more itchy she felt, so she ordered the caretakers to serve them well, and then went off to have fun with other "servants" she brought along.

With Wang Wan’er absent, even the maids serving them beca much more lax.

After all, the two were just sleeping, requiring no care at all.

This played right into Xia Wenjin’s hands, having pretended to be sick for two days. The servants moved like ants, doctors ca and went, he couldn’t move about at will or even get out of bed. He was growing mold from inactivity. He needed to move around!

After nightfall, the serving maids retired to sleep.

Xia Wenjin imdiately turned over and sat up on the bed. In this lively state, where was the slightest hint of weakness?

He had not eaten properly in two days to feign weakness, only sipping on so congee, not enough to stave off hunger!

Xia Wenjin decided to head to the kitchen to find sothing first.

Lightly hopping out the window, Xia Wenjin crouched like a little cat.

This was the Governor Mansion. Governor Wang, guilty of many misdeeds, maintained strict security, with more patrols inside than in Hua Cheng Villa.

The courtyard where he and Huangfu Jingchen were situated was relatively secluded and probably not a central area, so patrols were fewer here, but as he moved forward, more guards and patrols appeared.

Xia Wenjin didn’t know where the kitchen was.

But he encountered two servants with the sll of kitchen fus on them; these two must work in the kitchen.

Just go the opposite direction from where they ca.

Xia Wenjin counted himself lucky to have a keen nose.

Going the other way for a while, he caught a stronger scent of cooking fus.

Even a cleaned-up kitchen couldn’t hide the lingering aroma of past dishes.

The kitchen was empty at this ti, and the crescent moon cast a faint light, just enough to see and not stumble. Xia Wenjin crept in quietly.

It was safer in here than outside.

Thanks to his sharp nose, Xia Wenjin found so braised pork knuckles in a cupboard, but there weren’t many, only three. Oh well, he’d eat first and think later. With a pork knuckle between his teeth, he rummaged around. There was plenty in the kitchen, but it was mostly raw.

In the large kitchen, there was little to eat, but in the end, effort paid off when he found a few stead buns in a corner.

Though slightly cold, in this weather, even cold buns were edible.

Three mouthfuls dealt with a pork knuckle, and he munched on two buns, feeling much better in his stomach. He figured Huangfu Jingchen, also having faked illness for two days, must be just as starved.

He’d pack so knuckle and buns for him too.

No sooner said than done. He found a clean sheet of oiled paper, wrapped up the remaining two knuckles and two buns, and retraced his steps.

Wang Wan’er had arranged for the two to stay close to make it easier for the doctors to examine them, only dozens of feet apart.

He quietly reached Huangfu Jingchen’s window, and with a push, the window opened with no sound; perhaps Huang Zheng was asleep?

With a light step, he was ready to slip in through the window.

Before he landed, a sudden sense of danger surged in him, a feeling of bone-chilling dread.
