Ye Shixian sat by the window, reading the letter Murong Ye had sent.
She grew more and more excited as she read, and by the end of the letter, a hopeful, eager smile had spread across her face.
Shaoyao stood guard at the door, watching for anyone who might barge in. When she glanced over and saw Ye Shixian’s reaction, she froze in surprise.
"Miss, has Mr. Murong sent good news?"
Ye Shixian pressed the letter to her chest, closed her eyes, and let out a long sigh of relief.

Shaoyao hadn’t seen such life in her expression for a long ti, and she couldn’t help but feel happy as well.

Ye Shixian opened her eyes and read the letter again.

The ledger of bribes discovered at the Han residence implicated many officials. Her father’s na was on the list, but compared to the others, his involvent didn’t seem so severe.

By now, she no longer dared to hope for Ye Heng’s complete exoneration. He had risen quickly through the official ranks over the years, and deep down, she knew his hands weren’t clean.
This outco was already a pleasant surprise.
Murong Ye had said he was still gathering information and would try to pull so strings to ensure Ye Heng received a lighter sentence.
"Don’t say such things until the case is closed," Ye Shixian commanded.
Realizing her blunder, Shaoyao’s face filled with panic. She imdiately dropped to her knees. "I was wrong!"
Ye Shixian couldn’t be bothered to say more. The letter had finally allowed the tension that had gripped her for so long to ease.
The mont her mind relaxed, an overwhelming wave of exhaustion washed over her.
She burned the letter, then rose and walked to her bed.
"Enough. I’m going to rest for a bit. You’re dismissed."
Shaoyao quickly agreed and tiptoed out of the room.
Ever since the Ye Family’s misfortune, her mistress’s temper had beco unbearable. Shaoyao had suffered greatly in private, and now she served in a constant state of fear.
Ye Shixian lay down on her bed and quickly fell asleep.
She was startled awake by panicked sobs and shouts.
"Young Miss! Young Miss! Sothing terrible has happened!"
Shaoyao ca stumbling in.
Awakened so abruptly, Ye Shixian’s temper flared. She shot up and slapped Shaoyao hard across the face.
"How many tis have I told you not to be so hysterical! You’re my head maid. If people see you acting so recklessly, you’ll make a fool of us both!"
Shaoyao clutched her already swelling and red cheek. With a THUD, she fell to her knees, her eyes wide with panic.
"Young Miss! You... you have to go see! The Second Young Master... the Second Young Master... he’s not going to make it!"
A loud BUZZ filled Ye Shixian’s head, and for a mont, the world spun around her.
"What did you say?!"
