(Thank you, Commander Ou, for your heartfelt encouragent)
Inertia is a powerful force. After reflecting in the hospital that he shouldn’t get conceited, Liu Banxia returned ho. Once there, he chowed down on braised pork head, had a small drink, and then blissfully slept straight through to early morning.
I had originally planned to practice my skills in the dream space, but sohow that completely slipped my mind. He lazed about in bed for a while, feeling like it had been ages since he’d slept so soundly.
Even in my more carefree days, I’d still worry about my future. Back then, all I saw was a vast, uncertain haze, making it hard to feel truly happy.
He left for work a little later than usual, but still a bit earlier than normal working hours. After clocking in, he went straight to the colorectal departnt to handle the routine cases and, incidentally, complete his daily mission.
This ti, completing the daily mission only netted him a little over 500 experience points. His proficiency in the Dressing Change Skill, on the other hand, saw a decent increase of over 600 points, but his proficiency in Fistulotomy with Seton Ligation did not improve at all.
He had to listen to his superior. After greeting Director Jiang, he headed to the general surgery ward.
"Doctor Liu, you’re here!" Wang Lishan was overjoyed to see Liu Banxia.
"Brother Wang, you need to take care of yourself too. We don’t want you collapsing right after Mingxing recovers," Liu Banxia comforted him.
"I’m fine. As long as Mingxing gets better, that’s all that matters. By the way, Mingxing has been sleeping a lot since the surgery. Is that normal?" Wang Lishan asked worriedly.
"It’s normal. A major surgery like this requires ti for the body to recover. The nurses have instructed you on how to keep relevant records, right? Just make sure you don’t neglect that," Liu Banxia advised.
"Doctor Liu, will Mingxing be like a normal person again? Does he really need chemotherapy? That sounds like so much suffering," Wang Lishan asked again.
"We need to follow the attending doctor’s advice on that. Although we discovered it relatively early, pancreatic cancer is one of the most serious types. Even if it ans enduring so hardship, it’s beneficial for his long-term prognosis."
"Try not to dwell on that for now. Mingxing’s vital signs are good, and he should recover quickly. I also promised Mingxing that when he’s discharged, you’d have to show off your culinary skills for us."
"Absolutely, Doctor Liu, consider it done!" Wang Lishan responded promptly.
"I’ll let you in on a little secret," Liu Banxia said, lowering his voice. "Mingxing was personally admitted by our Director. Everyone in the departnt will definitely be giving him special attention. Just don’t tell anyone else."
Hearing this, Wang Lishan finally managed a slight smile and nodded emphatically.
It couldn’t be helped; consider it a white lie. At the very least, it might lift Wang Lishan’s spirits.
After leaving the room, he pondered for a mont, thinking he should probably try his luck in the ergency departnt. You never know, right?
However, he had only walked a short distance when he retreated a couple of steps. "Wang Chao, on your rounds? How did this gentleman end up admitted to our general surgery departnt?"
The man lying on the bed was the patient with gastric calculus from two nights ago. Normally, he should have been transferred to the gastroenterology departnt for endoscopic lithotripsy.
"His gastric calculus was too large and in a difficult position. The lithotriptor’s snare couldn’t secure it, so we perford surgery to remove the calculus yesterday," Wang Chao explained.
"Doctor, the nurse took his temperature today and said it’s a bit high. Is that okay?" the patient’s wife asked.
"It’s common for patients to have a slight fever after surgery. The dication we’ve prescribed includes anti-inflammatory and fever-reducing drugs," Wang Chao explained.
"I know what you’re doing! You’re experinting on ! Take out the tube, take it out! I want to go ho!"
At that mont, the patient on the bed opened his eyes and began to speak incoherently, his right hand flailing in the air.
"Doctor, he was talking nonsense last night too. Is it because of the fever?" the patient’s wife asked again.
Wang Chao’s brow furrowed. The patient’s temperature was indeed a bit high, but not high enough to cause delirium.
Liu Banxia beca attentive. The patient’s current state was clearly not a normal postoperative reaction for a gastrolithotomy. Moreover, the patient was sweating profusely. However, after his misstep in pediatrics the previous day, he was wary of speaking out of turn.
I need to keep a low profile, can’t make a scene.
"Banxia, what do you think?" Wang Chao asked with a frown once they were outside.
DING!
New Mission: Postoperative High Fever Patient
Open Mission: The patient exhibits postoperative high fever and delirium, possibly indicating an underlying condition. The Host is required to make a diagnosis. Mission rewards will be based on the diagnostic outco.
Seeing the mission prompt, Liu Banxia gave a wry smile and took the dical records.
First, he reviewed the preoperative test results; everything was normal. Then he checked today’s temperature log: 39.3°C. Definitely a high fever.
"Wang Chao, I’m not entirely sure either," Liu Banxia said after a mont’s thought.
"But considering the patient’s current high fever, sweating, apparent hallucinations, and his sowhat uncoordinated arm movents just now, do you think it could be heavy tal poisoning?"
"But the blood and urine test results were normal. Even if a specific heavy tal blood test wasn’t done, it should have shown up in the urinalysis, shouldn’t it?" Wang Chao replied.
"Chao, what if it’s rcury? And what if it was ingested very recently? There can be a delay before it shows up in a urine test," Liu Banxia pointed out.
"Anyway, another urine test won’t cost much. Let’s have him do one. This situation is definitely not right. Once you have the urine test results, you can report to Dr. Chen."
"You’re right. I’ll arrange it imdiately. Better to avoid causing unnecessary alarm for the patient’s family or creating a fuss," Wang Chao nodded, his expression grateful as he looked at Liu Banxia.
Of course, Wang Chao understood Liu Banxia’s unspoken implication. This was Chen Jianxin’s patient. If he, Wang Chao, identified the problem and took appropriate asures early on, he would earn credit with Chen Jianxin once the diagnosis was confird.
And what if my judgnt is wrong? Since I didn’t make a big fuss reporting it to Chen Jianxin, I won’t lose any points. Even if Chen Jianxin finds out I ordered a urine test, he won’t think badly of it. Banxia is really looking out for , Wang Chao thought.
Watching Wang Chao cheerfully return to the ward, Liu Banxia didn’t dwell on it.
The mission involving the baby in the Neonatal ICU yesterday, along with this current open mission for this patient, yielded no experience points or increase in Diagnostic Skill proficiency even after I had made the respective judgnts. I guess my knowledge base has expanded so quickly that such preliminary diagnoses no longer contribute to my experience.
Just as he ambled back into the ergency departnt, Liu Banxia was startled to see Liang Xiaolin wandering around. He figured she was there about the baby from yesterday. Although the system hadn’t signaled mission completion yet, it was probably because he hadn’t received official confirmation of the outco.
But he was also worried. He really hoped she wouldn’t casually ntion his confrontation with Chen Hongyang from the previous day.
"Banxia, hurry, Doctor Liang is looking for you!"
Just as he was about to make a run for it, Zhou Li spotted him and called out.
Liu Banxia felt utterly aggrieved. Oh, dear Sister Li, aren’t you just pushing into a fiery pit with your good intentions?
