Liu Banxia had a wonderful night’s sleep, sleeping in a bit.

Even though he was off today, he still had a lot on his plate. He planned to spend the morning with Qiaoqiao at ho.

At noon, he had to visit Zhou Shuwen’s house for a al with Mrs. Zhou. This was their first visit after getting their marriage certificate, so it was quite formal. In the afternoon, he had promised Wang Xiaoyan he would act as a promotional figure for her, and he had to keep his word.

The evening was a bit more relaxed, but he still needed to rest early since he had to return to work at the ergency center the next day.

Of course, all these plans were contingent on the ergency center not facing any large-scale ergency tasks. If that happened, he would be called back imdiately, no matter what he was doing.

Qiaoqiao didn’t need to help with breakfast; Liu Banxia handled that.

"Sigh... Watching you two, I’m quite envious. Work hard, you should have a baby soon," Wang Xiaoyan said.

"We’re always working hard and have never been surpassed," Liu Banxia responded seriously.

Qiaoqiao playfully smacked him. "What nonsense are you spouting? Give another bowl of millet porridge; it tastes really good with yellow croaker and eight-treasure vegetables."

Wang Xiaoyan and Jiaojiao laughed. It wasn’t easy to see Qiaoqiao blush.

"Dr. Liu, did Qiaoqiao say you’ll beco a leader in the second half of this year?" Jiaojiao asked curiously.

"I wouldn’t exactly call it being a leader; things aren’t quite settled yet," Liu Banxia replied.

"After all, my experience is quite limited. If I were given too high a position too quickly, it might cause gossip. However, I’ll definitely be assigned so responsibilities, much like now, I just won’t have to be on call as frequently."

"Ah, it would be great if they just made you a director. You’re so famous, and your dical skills are so impressive," Wang Xiaoyan opined.

"Haha, being in a hospital is different from being in a company," Liu Banxia laughed.

"In a hospital, you can’t get by without sufficient experience and job titles. Take my current situation, for instance; I’m barely qualified as it is. Going any higher would still be considered an exceptional promotion. We can’t cause trouble for the leadership, right?"

"Actually, a minor leadership role would be fine," Qiaoqiao said, "as long as I don’t have to be on duty every night and can get so normal rest."

"You can count on that. It’ll be Wang Chao and Qi Wentai’s turn to be tornted then," Liu Banxia said with a laugh.

"Oh, and Qiaoqiao," Liu Banxia continued, "after Liu Yiqing and Xu Yino finish their rotations in the ICU and Pediatrics departnt, take them out to relax. You can’t always exploit them; they deserve so rewards."

"Alright," Qiaoqiao replied. "Actually, when I take them out, we usually just eat, and then they sleep. I really don’t know why they sleep so much."

"Wait, do hospital family mbers also have to help manage hospital affairs?" Jiaojiao asked curiously.

"They’re his students, just two young girls," Qiaoqiao said casually. "They’re a far cry from when I first t them. They don’t even have ti for skincare."

Wang Xiaoyan gave a thumbs up and finished her porridge.

She had truly noticed a transformation. Since getting married, Qiaoqiao had beco a different person, which was no easy feat.

They knew Qiaoqiao’s personality well. Though Jinbao Grand Hotel was managed well and her other business was also doing fine, when it ca to her personal life, she was definitely a scatterbrain.

But now, she had completely changed. Not only had she learned to cook—even if it was only two dishes for now—but she also genuinely knew how to take care of others.

Just as they finished breakfast, Liu Banxia’s phone rang.

It was Xu Chengjun from Jinshui District Hospital. Liu Banxia quickly answered, "Chief Director Xu, what made you think of calling ?"

"I have a favor to ask. A patient in our hospital needs a hemihepatectomy. However, their family’s financial situation is quite poor, and the cost of transferring them to your hospital would be too high. How about it, can you co over?" Xu Chengjun asked directly.

"Since you’re the one asking, Chief Director Xu, of course, it’s no problem. But we need to go through the proper procedures. Please contact our hospital now, and I’ll drive over in a bit," Liu Banxia responded readily.

"You’re not at the hospital?" Xu Chengjun asked.

"Mm, I’m off today. But that’s fine. Can the patient have the surgery today? If it were a workday, I really wouldn’t be able to make it to Jinshui District," Liu Banxia asked.

"Yes, yes, we can. The patient only had so milk for breakfast. I won’t say any more polite words. You’re a true friend," Xu Chengjun said quickly.

"Why be so polite with ? If you hadn’t strongly supported back then, I don’t know which hospital I’d be suturing skin at now. I’ll head over right away. Please make the arrangents quickly," Liu Banxia said with a laugh.

One must repay kindness. The previous "freelance surgery" incident could have been treated as either a major or minor issue. If it had been escalated, it wouldn’t have been as simple as a temporary suspension; other disciplinary actions would have followed. It was because Xu Chengjun shouldered most of the responsibility, defining it rely as a procedural error, that Liu Banxia had escaped relatively lightly. This was a significant debt of gratitude. Xu Chengjun hadn’t made any requests for such freelance help for a long ti. Now that he had asked, Liu Banxia had to accept, no matter how busy he was.

Liu Banxia initially considered bringing the two interns. He was about to dial their numbers but then decided against it. Bringing more people might seem too showy. Things were different now; he should try to keep a low profile.

Less than ten minutes later, his phone rang again. This ti it was Zhou Shuwen.

"Director, did Chief Director Xu contact you?" Liu Banxia asked upon answering.

"He did. So much for your day off. I won’t be giving you a replacent day," Zhou Shuwen said.

"My only regret is missing out on Mrs. Zhou’s cooking. I’m heading to Jinshui District right now," Liu Banxia said.

"Fine, I’ll let her know. And don’t drive there. Take the high-speed train; it’s less hassle," Zhou Shuwen advised.

"Alright, sounds good," Liu Banxia replied.

Qiaoqiao looked at him pitifully. So much for their day off being ruined just like that.

"I have to take you with ," Liu Banxia said. "It just ans I can’t be a model for Yanzi today. Plans change, and saving people cos first."

"This is the life of a doctor! So cool," Wang Xiaoyan said with a smile. "Never mind, you can make it up to on your next day off."

"Of course! And it would be even better if you could bring back so teppanyaki tonight. If you do, I’ll buy so barbecue at, and we can grill together when you get back."

Liu Banxia nodded. "We’ll try to be back before six in the evening, but it depends on the patient’s actual condition. We need to hurry to the train station now. No more chatting."

With that, Liu Banxia didn’t delay, leading Qiaoqiao out. Ti was indeed tight.

Their luck was pretty good. After arriving at the train station, they waited less than fifteen minutes before their train departed.

"Hehe, this is actually fine," Qiaoqiao said with a smile.

"It’s tough on you, having to rush around with like this," Liu Banxia said.

"Well, we get to have teppanyaki, and Chief Director Xu is treating! Plus, we can have barbecue when we get back tonight. Sounds good to ," Qiaoqiao said nonchalantly.

"Just endure it for a few more months," Liu Banxia said. "Once I’m done with this chief resident gig, things will genuinely ease up. At least I’ll have regular days off each week and won’t be so exhausted."

Qiaoqiao nodded without saying anything more.

"Banxia, thank you for your trouble."

As soon as they stepped out of the station, Xu Chengjun, who was waiting there, hurried over.

"I’ve told you, don’t be so polite with . But our Qiaoqiao said you have to treat us to teppanyaki, and she even wants to pack so to take away," Liu Banxia joked.

"Absolutely, no problem. We’ll order one of each of their signature dishes," Xu Chengjun said with a laugh.

"Haha, then we won’t be polite!" Qiaoqiao said, also laughing.

"What’s the patient’s condition? Can you give the rundown?" Liu Banxia asked once they were in the car.

"Stage II liver cancer," Xu Chengjun began. "During the examination, we didn’t see any signs of tastasis, and his liver function is currently quite good. The tumor is about six centiters in diater, with so degree of adhesion. Otherwise, I wouldn’t even advise him to have it done."

Liu Banxia nodded. "But he’ll suffer in the future too. The recurrence rate is high. The chemotherapy will be done here, right?"

"What else can be done?" Xu Chengjun said. "They have a child still in school, no steady job, and their inco isn’t high."

"When the patient heard about needing chemotherapy and how it would interfere with work, he didn’t even want to go through with the surgery. It was also to be on the safe side that I thought of you."

Liu Banxia and his colleagues had discussed this issue before. Sotis, it wasn’t that people couldn’t afford the surgery itself, but rather that the total cost of treatnt was unbearable.

Without needing to think much, this patient would definitely have an open abdominal surgery. Because open surgery is cheaper than laparoscopy, and for him now, every bit saved counted.

In this situation, finding a doctor from another hospital willing to help wasn’t easy. Take Liu Banxia, for instance. If he didn’t owe Xu Chengjun a favor, he might not have given up his precious day off to co and help.

When the car stopped, Liu Banxia felt a bit helpless seeing the banner Xu Chengjun had hung on the office building again.

"Haha, now you’re a proper supervising instructor," Xu Chengjun said. "Today’s surgery is also a chance for our hospital’s doctors to observe and learn. No problem, right?"

Liu Banxia nodded. "If you keep being so polite, you’ll have to add more money," he quipped.

Xu Chengjun paused for a mont, then burst out laughing. He rembered the first ti he t Liu Banxia, when he himself kept offering more money.

How much ti had really passed? Liu Banxia’s reputation had skyrocketed. He was now a prominent figure not just in Jinshui District, but in the city proper as well. The title ’proper supervising instructor’ wasn’t just for show; he was one of the regular attending surgeons for liver surgeries in the Second Hospital’s ergency center.

Now, Xu Chengjun was genuinely happy. Liu Banxia had rushed over to help with just one phone call; this really gave him a lot of face. This kid... he’s really sothing, Xu Chengjun thought.
