"Still pondering over it?" Liu Banxia asked on the way back.

"Teacher Liu, we should still help those who genuinely need it," Liu Yiqing said.

"You're right about that, but in our profession, we have to be moderate. Unless the hospital is your family's business, then you can help however you want," Liu Banxia said.

Liu Yiqing rolled her eyes. Couldn't Demon King Liu ever speak nicely?

"Actually, it's often like that. Just think about a simple truth: of those begging on the streets, how many are truly so destitute they have no other choice?" Liu Banxia said with a smile.

"They might very well have houses, cars, and savings, maybe even VIP status at the bank. You earn your ager inco, and they might not even look twice at you."

"Alright... I get it. I won't ddle unnecessarily anymore," Liu Yiqing said helplessly. She understood this situation quite well. At the very least, able-bodied people could do simple jobs for a salary. Those who just waited for handouts often earned more than she did.

Just as they returned to the Ergency Center hall, they saw Officer Xu waiting there.

"You're here so early, Officer Xu. There must be good news," Liu Banxia said with a smile.

Officer Xu nodded. "We apprehended the person at a bathhouse late last night. However, processing the whole incident will take ti. The other party claims it's a dispute between lovers and proposed a private settlent. We didn't reveal which hospital she's in."

"That's quite normal. However, the patient's condition is much more serious now than when you ca yesterday. After an exploratory surgery, we perford two major operations. I'll prepare an updated report on her condition for you soon."

"Okay. I told her yesterday that given her current situation, she needs to contact her family to co and help manage things. The specific course of action will depend on the victim's wishes," Officer Xu said.

"They'll probably be able to co today; they're at ho trying to raise money. The surgery was complex—spleen suturing, and she also had an aortic dissection. By the way, what are the perpetrator's family's finances like?"

"An ordinary family. But no matter what, no parent wants to see their child incarcerated. They'd likely be willing to sell everything they own if it ans reaching a settlent," Officer Xu said.

"So now it depends on her—whether she presses for intentional assault or injury due to negligence. The nature of the charge makes a big difference. It'll probably be a few more days before she can be questioned, right?"

"We'll have to wait. It was a major surgery; she's in the ICU. She'll need to be there for at least another two days. Once her vital signs stabilize, she can be transferred to a general ward, but she'll require an increased level of nursing care."

"I was just saying to soone the other day, 'n fear choosing the wrong profession, won fear marrying the wrong man.' These are major life decisions that affect lifelong happiness; one must be careful."

"You officers too, always out working, sotis having a drink. You must take care of your health, especially those with high blood pressure. Just last night, we admitted a patient who suffered an aortic dissection after drinking, triggered by hypertension."

"We'd like to, but our cases co one after another; there's never a mont's rest. Please get a report on her latest condition. Notify when she's transferred to a general ward or when her family arrives," Officer Xu said.

Liu Banxia nodded and prepared a summary of the patient's situation from yesterday.

After Officer Xu left, Liu Yiqing furrowed her brows. "Teacher Liu, do you think they'll choose to settle and not press charges against that person?"

"That's not for us to worry about. Right now, just focus on supervising the interns. In a few days, the new interns from within the hospital system and those recruited externally will arrive, and it'll be even busier," Liu Banxia said.

Reluctantly, Liu Yiqing nodded. This was her actual job; other things could only be handled in her spare ti.

Liu Banxia glanced over. The interns were all at their posts, busy working. Even if so were just feigning busyness, at least their attitude was right.

That was already pretty good; sotis, you really couldn't ask for too much, especially from these younger generations, who mostly had their own individual styles.

After looking around, Liu Banxia strolled over to the pediatric departnt.

The pediatric departnt had always been considered a "disaster zone," but now, with the addition of interns, it had found so relief.

"It's not too bad today; not that many registrations," Liu Banxia remarked.

"The weather has ward up. If parents aren't a bit careful, their kids catch colds. It got hot early this year, and many families have already started using their air conditioners," Chen Hongyang said.

"Still, it's much less busy compared to early spring. Back then, it was truly unmanageable. We had such imnse pressure here; I can only imagine what the Children's Hospital must have been like."

"How are the new interns? Anyway, Pediatrics has the most interns of all departnts. If there are any good prospects, we must try to keep them. I can't be expected to cover here part-ti indefinitely," Liu Banxia said.

"That'll depend on luck; who knows what the future holds? But from what I've seen so far, their fundantals are a bit weak. They still need to work hard," Chen Hongyang said.

"You can't set your expectations too high. You can't expect everyone to be at my level," Liu Banxia said with a straight face.

"Sigh... It's a good thing I'm familiar with you now. Otherwise, I'd really have to debate you on that," Chen Hongyang said helplessly, then chuckled himself.

He was actually quite happy. Indeed, the pediatric departnt had the most interns. So, even proportionally, the chances of good ones staying on would be higher. Besides, having these pediatric interns to help really did lighten his workload.

"Teacher Liu, Teacher Liu! Co quickly! The notice for the deputy director selection has been posted!" Miao Rui ran over at that mont.

"Oh? Let's go take a look," Liu Banxia said with a smile and a nod.

When he got there, a small crowd had already gathered around the notice board. As expected, there were three candidates: him, Chen Xuehai, and Xu Qixin.

Below were their profiles. Looking at them from any angle, Liu Banxia seed to be the least qualified of the three.

Fortunately, there were no outsiders around; everyone knew the situation. It was just that seeing it listed out like this now, he couldn't shake the feeling that he was a 'connections hire.'

The announcent also served as a public comnt period. If anyone had material to contest a candidate's eligibility, they could submit it. If verified, the candidate would be disqualified.

Actually, the current outco was pretty much as predicted by the hospital grapevine. Two out of the three would be selected. After the public comnt period ended, the decision would be made by a vote from an enlarged hospital committee.

"Teacher Liu, you have to keep up the good work! And please, try to stay out of trouble recently, don't stir anything up," Miao Rui said.

This made the onlookers chuckle, much to Liu Banxia's chagrin.

This sentint was indeed accurate. When President Liu got carried away, there was no telling what kind of commotion he might cause.

"When have I ever randomly stirred up trouble? When I stir things up, it's always for legitimate reasons," Liu Banxia defended himself, though his voice lacked so conviction.

"Go for it, Dr. Liu!"

"Dr. Liu, if you succeed, you have to buy us snacks and fruit!"

"Dr. Liu, such a happy occasion, shouldn't you treat us to an extra al?"

...

The nurses around chid in one after another.

"Oh, for heaven's sake, can you all give a break? Let's talk after the final results are out. If I'm not selected, I doubt you'd be willing to buy pork trotters to console ," Liu Banxia said.

Everyone burst into laughter, clearly confident that he would beco deputy director.

"Hehe, it's pretty much a done deal now, huh?" Wang Chao said, sidling up to Liu Banxia after he had walked a bit away.

"I didn't expect the Chief Director to actually insist on it. Now it's put under a lot of pressure," Liu Banxia said.

"I don't think it's a big deal. After such a long period of uncertainty and fuss, for it to be announced now, it's likely what the Chief Director intended," Wang Chao said.

"In a couple of days, you'll step down as chief resident, and your attending physician assessnt results will be released. Then, the interview from last ti will be broadcast. Won't that be your ti to shine?"

"Besides, everyone in the hospital understands things clearly. In matters within our hospital, people have to give the Chief Director so face, right? Anyway, I think it's a sure thing."

"Sigh... Originally, this wasn't such a big deal, but now it's been blown up like this. I always feel it's straining relationships a bit," Liu Banxia sighed.

"There's no helping it. Who asked Chief Director Shen to eye the Ergency Center? This place is Chief Director Chen's private domain; how could he let others stick their chopsticks in?" Wang Chao said.

"Think about how difficult it was to even get the Ergency Center project started. Chief Director Chen pushed it through despite all the pressure. Now that it's showing results, they want to stick their chopsticks in. If it were you, you wouldn't stand for it either, right?"

"Chief Director Shen, although he has so seniority and represents certain people, was too hasty. Now he's in a dilemma. He has to continue supporting Xu Qixin, even if there's little chance."

"That's just how it is. I originally had no conflict with Xu Qixin, but now our relationship has beco so tense," Liu Banxia said helplessly.

"I've even thought about talking to him, but I'm afraid he'd think I was trying to provoke him, making the conflict even worse. I just want to peacefully see patients and do surgeries. Why is it so hard?"

"Haha, no way around it! Although you'll have to 'squat' in this deputy director position for a few years, the competition for future promotions will be even fiercer," Wang Chao said with a grin.

"When our hospital expands in the future, these sections here will beco truly independent departnts. What kind of scale will that be? With departnt directors under you, your position as Deputy Director of the Ergency Center will carry even more weight. Keep it up, Dr. Liu, I'm optimistic about you!"

"Go away. You're treating to pork trotters for lunch," Liu Banxia said.

"Huh? Why? Shouldn't you be treating ?" Wang Chao asked, perplexed.

"I'm happy! As my brother, shouldn't you help celebrate?" Liu Banxia tossed back the words and strolled away.

Wang Chao was thoroughly vexed. What rotten luck to be friends with this guy! The pork trotters were a small matter; being bullied was the big issue!
