Chapter 1387: Gu Contest (II) Chapter 1387: Gu Contest (II) Luckily for the young woman, Zoan appeared the very next second, a broad smile on his face.

He stepped forward, his presence imdiately drawing Cain’s attention away from the trembling girl.

“Elder Laurifer,” Zoan said, his tone respectful and enthusiastic, “I have been trying to contact you for the past few months.” As he uttered those words, Zoan threw a sharp glance at the young woman, who imdiately recognized the cue.

Without uttering another sound, she quickly left the room.

Cain spared her only the briefest glance, deciding that she was not worth any further bother.

He had more important matters at hand, and a small smile arose on his face as he nodded to Zoan.

“I was in my cultivation abode, so I could not answer any ssages,” Cain explained calmly.

This was a perfectly logical reason, as all cultivators understood that secluded cultivation could last for months, even years.

There was nothing unusual in that.

“I guess that the trade went well?” Zoan nodded in understanding.

Without delay, the Godslayer Human focused on the topic at hand.

He waved his hand, bringing out a black box and handing it over to Cain.

Cain took the box, and as he sent his Ego Wave into it, he saw it contained one hundred and forty-five Spirit Stones.

His eyes widened slightly at the amount.

It was more than he expected, indicating that the arrangent Zoan had made on his behalf had yielded excellent results.

“Impressive.

I guess everything went smoothly,” Cain remarked, pleased by the outco.

“Hahaha, of course,” Zoan replied, clearly very happy.

He had gained a good number of Spirit Stones as well, claiming his commission in the process. After taking care of the Spirit Stones, Cain’s eyes began to glow as he considered what else he wanted to discuss.

There were many things on his mind, but first, he needed to handle a more pressing matter.

“By the way, I can pay my Sect Debt to you, right?” Cain had purchased a lot of resources from the Sect Interface, accumulating debt.

As long as he paid before leaving the sect, there would be no problem.

This system of debt might seem designed to help cultivators, but Cain knew it was really a thod used by the higher-ups of the sect to trick people into amassing debt they could not possibly repay.

Then, they would force these indebted cultivators into missions or tasks they could not refuse.

It was a very devious thod, a hallmark of the demonic sect’s cunning.

“Yes,” Zoan imdiately nodded.

After a small review, he spoke to Cain with surprise.

“You owe 103 Spirit Stones!?” Cain simply smiled at this revelation.

It was true he had gone a bit wild during the acquisition of resources, but he only shrugged his shoulders casually.

Without hesitation, he took forty-two of the Spirit Stones from the box before handing them over to Zoan to settle his debt.

Zoan took the box and marked Cain’s debt as fully paid, freeing him from any obligation to the sect’s cunning financial trap.

Zoan then gazed at the young man curiously.

He sensed that Cain had more on his mind. “Is there sothing I can help you with?” Zoan asked, maintaining a polite and businesslike tone. “Since you asked,” Cain began, “I wonder if you could help understand what is happening with the sect.

I understand that segregation is expected, given the presence of both Dark and Light Races and the fact we are incentivized to kill each other.

But I cannot help feeling that there is sothing I am not seeing.” Cain’s eyes were sharp as he posed this question.

If he wanted to take advantage of whatever was going to happen in the sect, he needed to understand it first.

Zoan struck him as soone well-inford, soone who could provide the necessary clues.

Information was power, and Cain needed it.

Zoan’s eyes narrowed slightly.

He stared at Cain, attempting to gauge how serious he was.

After a mont of silence, Zoan threw a aningful glance toward the Spirit Stones in Cain’s hand.

This was the price for knowledge-nothing was free, not even information.

Cain smiled as he realized this and waved his hand, sending twenty of the Spirit Stones toward Zoan.

Although they were amicable enough and had made deals before, neither Cain nor Zoan mistook this arrangent for friendship.

If one wanted sothing, they had to pay.

Zoan glanced at the Spirit Stones and, after a mont’s consideration, nodded in agreent.

His Ego Wave connected with Cain’s mind as they began to speak telepathically, ensuring that no one could spy on their conversation.

“It is all related to the Gu Contest,” Zoan said, his ntal tone cautious and secretive.

“Gu Contest?” Cain’s interest imdiately rose at the ntion of this event, sothing he had not heard of before.

“Yes.

The last ti it happened was millions of years ago, long before I arrived in the sect, so I am not really familiar with its details.

In fact, I believe that other than the Core Elders, no one really knows exactly what it is.” Cain’s eyes narrowed as he listened.

So far, Zoan was not giving him enough information to justify the twenty Spirit Stones he had paid.

He needed more than just a na and so vague hints.

Zoan seed aware of this and quickly continued.

“What I do know is that before the Gu Contest begins, factions will form, each one trying to take down the others or at least weaken them,” Zoan explained.

“It’s a ti of chaos and internal strife as everyone seeks an advantage.

And also, when the last Gu Contest finished, the sect gained a new Third Realm life form.” Cain’s eyes widened as he heard that.

Sothing capable of pushing soone’s cultivation to the Third Realm was truly a wondrous event he could not miss.

After all, the Third Realm represented a level of power far beyond the Soul Realm, the power to affect entire continents of the Nine Empyrean Suns Universe.
