"Ready to go?" Daniel extended his hand for Elara.
The girl stood at the edge of the stairs, her heart beating fast as she looked at his hand nervously.
No. They weren’t getting married. It was supposed to happen the next day.
This was her arrival at the celebration party, which her parents and Daniel had thrown to announce her to the world officially.
She wore a royal blue gown with silver beads on her bell sleeves, making her look like a princess. A small drop necklace adorned her neck, snowdrop earrings making her look ethereal.
She had done light makeup, but the eyeshadow was smoky blue, which made her stand out from her usual appearance even more.
"I don’t know," Elara exhaled sharply, and Daniel smiled at her encouragingly.
He knew it was hard for her to face such a large crowd, especially after the rumors about her going around and how she was declared dead.
People would definitely talk; so might even criticize her because the truth behind her disappearance had never been revealed to the world.
"Take your ti; I am here, waiting for you. We will walk as soon as you are ready," Daniel said, and Elara’s heart swells with genuine care in his eyes.
"Have I ever told you I love you?" Elara asked, and Daniel’s lips twitched.
"Not that I rember," he said, amused when Elara furrowed her brows.
"Well, you are not getting that now either," she scowled, and the man chuckled before he bent and kissed the area under her ears, his lips touching her skin so softly that it made her heart flutter.
"Hey, what if soone sees us?" Elara asked.
"Then I am kissing my soon-to-be wife," Daniel said, his stance clear. He wasn’t ashad of sharing the news that she was his wife; he wasn’t afraid of what others would say and was hiding only for her sake.
Though he also knew they wouldn’t be able to keep this a secret for too long. After all, with his desires that were only increasing with ti, he didn’t think he would be able to control his hands and lips around her.
"Let’s go," Elara said after a few more seconds, and they walked to the stage hand in hand.
The dia outlets imdiately started clicking photos.
The host announced their presence as the heir and owner of the Macros’ group and the heiress of the Frost group as soon as they stopped at the center of the stage, and the party officially began.
At the sa ti, Carla walked out of her little, rundown apartnt, dressed in a silver dress, ready for the event.
Though she had applied heavy makeup, it couldn’t hide the puffiness of her eyes from all the crying.
Elara had told her she could skip this event and sing at another, but she was afraid that if she skipped, the opportunity might be taken away, and she didn’t want to let it go.
It would be hard to sing happy and celebratory songs just after one day of her grandfather’s death, but this was work, and she needed to do it, for her family and more than that, for herself, to feel alive and useful.
Andrew, who had returned from work a bit early to see the apartnt Carla had chosen, looked at the girl all dressed up.
He rembered her telling him she would be singing in clubs. The fact that she was dressed so fancy made his mind suspicious, and he imdiately held her elbow.
"Where are you going?" Andrew asked.
Carla swallowed hard. She didn’t want to know how her brother would react to Elara’s na, and thus she hid it and told him she was attending an event where she would be paid twenty tis her regular singing rate.
Their na was already down the drain, people were mocking them, trying their best to use them, and in a situation like this, soone offered that kind of money? It only made it more suspicious.
Andrew was afraid that whoever this person was was trying to take advantage of Carla, and he shook his head.
"You are not going," he stated.
Carla’s pupils dilated.
"What are you talking about, brother? Of course, I am going," Carla said.
Andrew shook his head again. No. He won’t allow anyone to use his naive sister. She was cunning and manipulative, but when it ca to understanding how devious a man can be, she was naive.
"You don’t understand. No one pays that much for just singing. They want sothing from you. You don’t have to go. I’ll sort it out. Trust . I’ll think of a solution and bring our family to the top," Andrew said.
Carla looked at her brother, and she finally understood what he was trying to say, and she couldn’t help but feel tears brim in her eyes.
She had always acted so bratty, so pushy and demanding, that she never saw how hard her brother worked for the family. Even when he was at his most heartbroken, he said he would handle everything.
"I am attending a singing event of the Frosts. Don’t worry, brother. No one will take advantage of . You trust Elara, don’t you? It’s her celebration party," Carla said.
Andrew was about to reason again when he paused and let the information sink in.
Beatrice’s words about how he killed his own child that night echoed in his head, and he stumbled back breathlessly.
"You are invited by Elara?" Andrew asked to confirm, and even though Carla nodded, he held her hand earnestly.
"Please take with you too. I want to apologize to her, Carla. She has blocked everywhere, and I don’t know how to reach her since she has changed her apartnt, too. Please help reach her, just once," Andrew begged his sister.
Carla’s pupils dilated.
She had already gotten this opportunity with pure luck. If her brother went there to cause a scene, Elara would never forgive her and might even block all her figure opportunities.
"I am sorry. Brother. I can’t take you there," Carla said before she yanked her hand free from his grip, sat in the taxi she had called in for herself, and left.
Andrew stood there for a few seconds before he walked inside the rundown apartnt, defeated.
As he looked around, his gaze fell on an invitation card on the desk. He read the address and then searched online about the celebration party.
Without wasting ti, he put on decent, presentable clothes and left the apartnt for where Elara was, to apologize for his sins and tell her he finally understood why she had left him.
It confused him for so ti. Why did she hide the truth from him? Why didn’t she tell him what happened? Then later, he finally realized why.
She didn’t consider him worthy anymore. She had a miscarriage because of Beatrice’s trick, where she saw him naked with another woman. Why would she share anything with a man like that?
"I am sorry, Elara," Andrew whispered in his head, the words he wanted to tell Elara.
On the other hand, after the brief introduction, it was finally ti to dance, and George stepped forward to take Elara’s hand so no one would speculate about their relationship.
"Can I have the first dance of the evening with my sister?" George asked with a gentlemanly bow, and Elara smiled before placing her hand in his.
George pulled her to the center of the hall, and they started dancing softly. It wasn’t long before Logan stepped up with Gabriella as the second dance, and Elara walked to the side with George.
"You look a bit sad. Is it because of Williams?" George asked.
Elara looked up at him before smiling through her tears. No matter what others said, deep down she still believed a good soul left the Earth because of her.
She even wanted to cancel the celebration, but Daniel wouldn’t let her. He said she had suffered because of that family enough; she didn’t need to keep suffering and pushing her happiness away.
"Can I have your second and last dance, Miss Elara?" Daniel extended his hand before Elara, and she raised her brows.
All the dia outlets turned to them and clicked away. She could obviously not deny the offer. After all, he wasn’t just Daniel Macros, but now her boss, too.
She placed her hand in his gently, and he pulled her to the middle of the hall before he pulled her close.
Elara gasped with wide eyes when their chest collided.
"What are you doing?" She hushed, and the man smirked before he turned her around and wrapped his hands around her waist.
"What I am doing is dancing with my wife. Is that a cri now? You are already lucky I am not devouring every inch of your skin right now because that’s exactly what I want to do," Daniel whispered in her ears, and she was about to answer when they heard it.
Shot!
Shot!
Shot!
The sound of three shots echoing sent everyone into panic, and Daniel hid Elara behind him.
"Well, well, well, isn’t this a celebration? One that I wasn’t invited to?" Ashton walked inside the halls with twenty n backing him.
Daniel’s expression darkened when he felt Elara stiffen beside him.
He had warned his father to keep his son in check, but it seed his words had fallen on deaf ears, and they were about to find out what would happen when they ignored them.
No one threatens his wife. NO ONE! Daniel cracked the bones in his neck, his hand inching for his gun.
