"Theoretically, no. But our research has already achieved trendous breakthroughs. If you’re lucky enough for this experint to succeed, and if you just happen to be able to form a contract with it, then you’ll beco the only person in the world capable of contracting a Calamity."

Phield scratched his head awkwardly.

Sorry, but I’ve already contracted Calamities. In fact, I’ve contracted two of them.

"Alright. I accept your proposal. You’ll provide us with every bit of assistance you can. In return, I’ll set you free and won’t kill you."

For greater rewards, taking a few risks was perfectly acceptable.

"A rational decision. Trust , while I enjoy slaughter, I also enjoy all beautiful things. I don’t waste lives unnecessarily," Jamie said quietly. "Your own Divine Chosen are far more reliable than wild Calamities."

"Enough of the pointless chatter. Tell about the Shadow World Sect’s combat strength. Besides the Thirteen Deacons, what other high-level combatants do you have?"

Phield had always believed in trusting those he chose to employ.

Calamity or not, he didn’t care.

"Four Female Knights. All of them were once Imperial generals. They’re Fourth-Tier combatants. When the Sect Leader was alive, he was Fifth Tier."

Jamie raised her only intact hand.

"Don’t ask for details. We communicate through soul projections. I swear I don’t know the exact information."

"I’m sure you’ve already noticed. Most mbers of the Shadow World Sect hold positions of status in society. Under normal circumstances, none of us reveal our identities."

"Fair enough."

Phield rubbed his temples.

He had accidentally attended one of the Shadow World Sect’s gatherings before, and not a single person had revealed their real na.

"Then once my injuries recover, how about I personally lead you into Bull Territory?" Jamie suggested proactively.

"Impossible. Bull Fortress is full of your people. I’m not stupid enough to walk straight into that. Once the gates close, I’ll be a dead man."

Jamie looked at him in surprise, as though she had only just begun to understand him.

"I thought a madman willing to make deals with Corrupted Calamities wouldn’t fear anything."

She paused before continuing.

"Then Maple Leaf Territory. Other than that, there really isn’t a better choice."

"Hmm? Suspicious. Don’t tell you have people in Maple Leaf Territory too."

Phield stroked his chin thoughtfully.

After all, Simon was a complete scumbag noble with the behavior of a lunatic.

A trace of panic flashed through Jamie’s eyes.

She imdiately covered it with irritation.

"Can you stop being so paranoid? Simon hates us more than anyone. This won’t work, that won’t work. At this rate, why don’t you just keep here and have bear your children?"

"Not for ."

Phield grinned wickedly.

"But maybe for one of my subordinates."

"You should focus on recovering first. As for how I plan to get into Bull Territory, that’s none of your concern."

After signing a temporary agreent with Jamie, Phield handed her over to Rosalia for supervision.

With injuries as severe as hers, she wouldn’t recover in less than half a month.

"If she does anything suspicious, you can eat her imdiately."

"Hehehe. No problem."

Rosalia swept a strange gaze across Jamie, as though selecting cuts of beef.

Jamie could only tremble.

She knew perfectly well that Corrupted creatures were greedy monsters that could never be satisfied.

She didn’t dare move and simply allowed her divine power to slowly nd her injuries.

"My lord, all of the shadows summoned by the enemy have been intercepted."

Ashina and Ophelia erged from the gray mist.

The Drakewolf carried soone in its jaws.

It was the cloaked man from before.

"And this one tried to run away. Miss Ophelia caught him."

Pointing at the man, Ashina made a guess.

"Perhaps he’s Jamie’s lord?"

"Not at all. He’s the one who hired soone to kill ."

Phield had already obtained plenty of useful information from Jamie.

"Oh."

Ashina’s gaze instantly turned icy.

"Then he can die."

She was already preparing to order the Drakewolf to devour him.

"rcy! Please, have rcy! It wasn’t my idea!"

Feeling those blade-like teeth about to tear through his flesh, the cloaked man scread miserably and imdiately betrayed his master.

"Honorable Baron, please spare ! I’m innocent!"

"Hm?"

To be honest, Phield had already guessed who was behind it without needing any interrogation.

It could only be soone from the family.

Every one of them wanted him dead so they could claim a larger share of the inheritance.

Still, he had never expected his brother to be so direct and foolish.

Actually hiring mbers of the Shadow World Sect?

Wasn’t he worried about leaving evidence behind?

The cri of murdering a noble, especially a family mber, was serious enough that even the royal family would think twice about it.

"Innocent? There’s no such thing."

Phield waved dismissively.

"The mines happen to need so high-intensity laborers. You’re a perfect fit."

"No, no, no! Please!"

Casually waving his hand again, Phield issued an order.

"Send him to Kai first. Let’s see if he can be interrogated for anything valuable."

He smiled.

"After that, send him to the mines."

The cloaked man burst into tears.

Thinking about the wife he had only recently married and how she would soon end up in another man’s arms, he suddenly seized upon a sliver of hope.

"Wait! The money your brother used to hire the assassins is hidden with !"

"Hold on."

Phield’s eyes narrowed.

"How much money?"

"One hundred and fifty thousand gold coins and three portions of Divine Chosen elf blood essence!"

"Hiss..."

Phield sucked in a sharp breath.

When he had been exiled to the Northern Frontier, his family had only given him five hundred gold coins.

In their eyes, he had been nothing more than a bug worth five hundred gold.

Yet in his brother Owen’s eyes, he was apparently worth this much.

How touching.

How heartwarming.

In an instant, Phield’s face transford into one of saintly kindness.

Walking forward, he helped the cloaked man out of the wolf’s jaws and gently patted his shoulder.

"I am the greatest philanthropist in the Northern Frontier. I don’t enjoy unnecessary killing. I simply follow the Seven Virtues of Knighthood."

His smile beca even warr.

"I forgive you."

"My lord, I’ve hidden the money in Goldfinch Territory within Twilight Province. I can personally take you there."

"Why hide it so far away?"

Phield looked utterly speechless.

"Because Goldfinch Territory has lots of won. With that amount of gold, you can easily fool those big-breasted, empty-headed won over there. Before long, they’ll throw themselves into your arms."

The cloaked man laughed awkwardly.

"Of course, I didn’t dare spend a single copper coin."

Phield sighed.

It ant crossing provincial borders again, but for that amount of money, the trip was absolutely worth it.

"Oh, right, my lord."

Ashina rubbed one of her wolf ears and frowned as she searched through her mories.

"If I rember correctly, the compass we found before pointed sowhere in Twilight Province."

"Now that you ntion it, I rember."

Back in his younger brother’s bedroom, they had discovered that mysterious compass whose purpose remained unknown.

Once they dealt with the Shadow World Sect, they could investigate it along the way.

"As for you..."

Phield grinned.

"You can go help Kai with so labor. Consider yourself lucky."

Like lifting a chicken, he grabbed the cloaked man and hoisted him into the air.

"When it’s ti for to collect the money, I’ll call for you. No need to worry."
