"Yomi?"
Tsuchimiyaka Kagura, who had just finished a eting with various family heads in the conference hall, rushed back to the courtyard where Isayama Yomi resided, wishing to reunite with her as soon as possible.
However, what she saw upon pushing open the door were five corpses on the ground and Isayama Yomi, drenched in blood, clutching a long blade.
"Ah, Kagura, you're here."
Standing silently in the courtyard, Isayama Yomi raised her blood-stained face toward the white barrier in the sky.
"Hey, if I said I didn't really want to kill them, would you believe ?"
Taking a deep breath and holding onto a sliver of hope that even she knew was a fantasy, Yomi forced a smile onto her face and turned to look at Kagura with a cheerful tone.
"Yes, I believe you."
A strained smile appeared on Kagura's face. She nodded at the blood-soaked Yomi, but her body subconsciously settled into a defensive stance, and her right hand rested on a position where she could draw her sword at any mont.
"I see. So, from the mont I was controlled, everything of mine had already been taken away?"
Yomi saw Kagura's movents clearly. She didn't have any violent reaction; she rely gave a self-deprecating laugh at what a fool she was—a brat who, after committing such sins, still held the naive idea that everything could return to the way it was!
"I'm sorry, Kagura, for causing you trouble."
A completely despairing Yomi spoke to Kagura in a low voice, almost like a mutter. Imdiately, she smashed through the wall on the left side of the courtyard and fled.
"Yomi, don't run!"
Seeing Yomi leave the only protected area Isayama Naraku had set for her, Kagura's expression changed instantly. She called out loudly for Yomi to turn back while gripping her hilt and giving chase.
However, Yomi, understanding in her heart that there was no turning back, now only wanted to leave the Isayama estate. As for what she might encounter on her way out, she didn't care at all!
"What is that?"
Soon, the two encountered the first wave of guards patrolling the Isayama estate. Upon seeing Yomi covered in blood and Kagura chasing behind her, the small guard unit drew their weapons almost instantly to intercept.
But how could a guard unit with an average strength of Middle-grade be a match for Yomi, a Special-grade? In a re flash, Yomi cut through the twelve guards like a knife through butter, clearing them out in an instant before continuing her escape toward the periter.
"This is bad."
Because they were far apart, Kagura was completely unable to stop her, only able to watch helplessly as more blood debts were added to Yomi's hands.
"..."
While Kagura was dazed, a guard on the ground who hadn't died completely pressed the alarm button. Instantly, a massive alarm began to echo continuously over the Isayama family estate.
"Has it started?"
The Nine-Tailed Fox, listening to the commotion coming from the Isayama estate, allowed a smile to grace its lips. It understood human nature all too well. It was precisely for this reason that it had so easily returned control of Yomi's body to her earlier.
By now, that poor human must have experienced the suspicion of her best friend and blood relatives, falling into a predicant where she could trust no one. And judging by this commotion, the entire Isayama family would soon begin a large-scale manhunt for her.
Naturally, unwilling to be captured, Yomi would have no choice but to kill in resistance. The consequence of this would only intensify the rage of the entire Isayama family toward her—to the point where, in order to stop Yomi from killing, the Tsuchimiyaka girl would have no choice but to draw her blade against her friend.
At that point, all the pillars supporting Isayama Yomi would collapse! When that happened, Yomi would no longer have any will to resist and would let the Fox dispose of her as it pleased...
The facts unfolded exactly as the Nine-Tailed Fox predicted.
Under the pressure of Yomi's new killings, Isayama Naraku, under the gaze of the branch family heads and clansn, helplessly issued the order to kill Isayama Yomi. Learning that her respected father had personally ordered her death, Yomi felt despair toward him, even though she knew Naraku had been forced into it.
After Yomi killed dozens more guards, Kagura, unable to bear watching any longer, had to respond to the pleas of those around her. She blocked Yomi's path and pointed the tip of her sword at her.
"Kagura, are you going to be my enemy too?"
Looking at the exit only a hundred ters away and Kagura blocking the path in the middle, Yomi's voice was filled with sorrow. She had fled the courtyard specifically because she didn't want to be Kagura's enemy, hoping to preserve the last shred of affection between them. Yet now, even this last bit of hope was shattered.
"I'm sorry, Yomi. I can't let you go."
Kagura's left hand, which wasn't holding a sword, clenched so tightly in pain that blood began to seep out. However, as the head of the Tsuchimiyaka family, she truly could not let Yomi leave.
If she let Yomi go, not only would the prestige of the Tsuchimiyaka and Isayama families be dragged through the mud, but other spiritualist families would no longer follow her command. Currently, the Nine-Tailed Fox and a group of high-level spirits were waiting outside the barrier; if the people's hearts scattered, the entirety of Tokyo would face ultimate catastrophe!
"I understand."
Though Kagura didn't say much, Yomi, who knew her well, understood her current predicant. Indeed. The trade-off of losing one friend to gain the trust and obedience of all spiritualists in Tokyo was simply too efficient. Not to ntion, the ultimate goal of doing so was to save the ten million civilians of Tokyo.
To lose just one person and receive so much in return, eventually being showered with countless words of praise—anyone who wasn't a fool would know how to choose, right?
But!
"I'm not resigned to this."
Lowering her head, Yomi's tone beca chilling.
"Why does it have to be ?"
If no accidents had happened, she would still be the respected young successor of her clan, as close as sisters with Kagura, and engaged to a fiancé who, though showing little emotion, was excellent in every way. Yet this beautiful life had completely changed just because the heavens played a small prank on her!
Outside the barrier, the Nine-Tailed Fox felt Yomi actively contacting it, and a smile appeared on its face. With a thought, the spiritual brand on Yomi's forehead, which had been dormant, manifested once more.
Back at the Isayama estate, Yomi's body was now enveloped in a shroud of wicked energy.
"Fine. Since you all think I'm a murderous demon king, then I'll be a murderous demon king for you all to see!"
